I have a stripped out and caged 1959 Austin A35. 500kg with about 120bhp from the 1275cc "A" series engine, rwd with no weight over the back axle. BIG smiles, especially in the wet. Stock, an A35 will be sideways from 10 mph of the road is wet on cross ply tyres.

I live on Okinawa, and about 75% of all the locals drive Kei cars (under 660cc), and some of them out here (Alto's, Wagon R's, Cappuccino's) are pretty hard to catch in traffic.

UK viewer here and I used to own a daewoo matiz 0.8ltr SE+ addition. Was pretty good overall did what it needed to do as I'd not long got my license and parts were easy accessible and was the easiest car to so anything with. The best part was the fact of 5 doors! So practical. Now I've moved onto a 2001 ford fiesta 1.6 ghia model. Still small compared to other cars and hatches but it's nice. Yet again thanks for another great video!

I like small cars too. My girlfriend bought a Mazda 323 1.6i (-88) from her brother who had it as a wintercar 5 years, all we did was: -Right hand side back wheelbearing exchange. -Alternator belt -Rear Swaybar rods (sorry, don't know the correct english word for it) -Welded a hole in the exhaust. That's it. 5 years. Sold it less then a month ago. It was so cheap to run and own. The roadtax was about half of what i'm used to.

I have a Mk2 Fiesta from 1988 & I can tell you, small cars new or old are grand fun to drive. I adore driving my car. Sure my car's got old Ford comfort suspension, only has 50bhp & a top speed of 88mph but at ordinary road speed, going through corners is a delight & that exhaust note (typical kent engine sound) just sounds so good as you cycle through the four speed box (third gear is my favourite gear for the exhaust note). Honestly, those with doubts about small cars, get one & find a twisty road, you'll have as much fun as you can have on four wheels

I love my 1990 Suzuki Vitara 1.6L 4cyl short-wheel base, it's kickass offroad, and since it's got selectable 4x4 you can select to just be rear wheel drive. Rear wheel drive in a manual small SWB is so much fun. Also, the offroad gear aftermarket for 4x4 Suzuki's is incredible.

One of my first cars (I bought three right around the same timeframe) was a 1979 Honda Civic 1200 with a 4 speed and a 1 bbl carb and that car was an absolute blast to drive. Then I had a 1989 Ford Festiva L with a 1.3 Mazda/Kia 4 cylinder SOHC with a 3 speed auto and ice cold air con and that car had no problem doing 85MPH+ and would still return 40+ MPG. I've owned 40 cars since I was 14 and right now I have a 2003 Hyundai Sonata GLS with the G6BA 2.7 DOHC V6 and a tiptronic auto trans with headers, exhaust, and intake. I also have a 2010 Ford F-250 Super Duty 4 door long bed with a 6.7L twinturbo PowerStroke diesel that gets around 12 MPG average. My all time favorite car was my 1992 Plymouth Colt that I built and swapped a 4G63t into with forged internals and a 20g turbo that dynoed at 308 HP to the wheels at 16psi of boost and was still capable of 32 MPG if you kept your foot off of the loud pedal. I love economical cars that have the power to surprise you...and others.

Just got an 02 Mazda Protege5, which admittedly isn't THAT small but still scary when the thousands of soccer moms in suburban's around here are riding your ass. I love small cars. I used to give one of my friends a lot of crap about him wanting a miata. Then I drove one, and now own one, and love it. 30 mpg, next to no upkeep, standard trans, endless fun, and even with 140hp (110 whp I believe) it feels a lot faster than other v6s I've driven. Plus the torsen is fantastic. It's not quite cuore sized, but it's definitely tiny. I do want to put in some tein coilovers and a turbo kit though.

i bought a 99 suzuki wagon r, the body roll was terrible, moving the front springs to the rear and installing civic springs in the front, cut to lower the car about an inch made the trick to get rid of body roll, i cut the shock bolt holes to give good camber and made a nice toe out, and the car is transformed. the power isnt that great but makes me smile every time i drive it. small cars are really fun!

You can stance a solid rear. What people do with the old school Golfs/GTI's is they use drop plates and raise the hub. You get full suspension travel and when you lower it the wheels don't move forward. You use different thicknesses and angles to get camber. If my MK3 Golf can support the weight with no problems, that tiny thing can too. But you can always fab up an IRS system.

my first car was an AE82 Twin Cam corolla hatch, and it is still the best car I have ever owned, and one of the best I've every driven. Not quite as small as the blue turd, but still fairly small and it didn't matter how unhappy i was, as soon as I got in that, I'd have a smile from ear to ear. Zippy (probably not really quick though), handled really well, good brakes, loved revving it to 7500 every day, reliable, and great economy 700km to a tank of PULP while still thrashing it! :D

I own an Alpina B3 3.3, I love it but I wouldn't say I'd be as upset to sell it as I was when I sold my 206 gti... I now want a Dihatsu YRV 4trak. Not the turbo, I want an MCM inspired project! Small cars are so much more entertaining at lower speeds. If you have a big fast car, you're either tailed by new drivers who think they're quick, or other big fast car owners. In a small car nobody bothers you and you can just have fun. Marty makes sense. MCM is awesome.

Marty you said about getting camber on your rear wheels, once lowered car as you know get some negative camber, so have you get it the car alignment done, but if you want camber on rear wheels, I know for a Renault Clio, ( yes not a good car to mod up) but hey, you can buy rear camber shims from £10-50 that you put behind the wheel hub, which can get them in different sizes but for Clio they are at a 1 degrees so fitted the right way can give 1 degree negative camber

Whilst it may not be as small (or be known as a stereotypical western syd vehicle), its power to weight ratio and that sr20de just maked it drive so damn well. I regret selling my last Citroen Saxo, It was a really fun car, never once did i get bored of the way it drove, I always had a smile on my face. I had a Focus ZX3 hatchback with a 2.0 zetec in it, i wish i would have never sold that thing. It wasn't fast but it was quicker than alot of newer auto cars in the states and I could beat the piss out of it because I knew if i ever broke it, which i didn't, it would be cheap to fix. It wasn't the best on fuel it was about the same as my current car which is a jetta 1.8t they both get around 25mpg factoring in the fact that the jetta runs a higher grade of fuel. And although my jetta is alot faster and handles better its not as fun because i have to worry about breaking things.

I don't have a 'small' car, but it's a hatchback, and I've always loved the fuel economy I get with it. I can drive from the north coast of NSW down to Sydney (750km drive) on one tank, and burn under 52L of fuel. For a 2L 4-banger N/A, that's great mileage (around 6.7L/100km), and I could never get that in any other similar car that I've owned. Even around town I get 600km+ per tank.

about the camber thingy on rear axle Marty, if the hubs are just bolt on then you can just do what many do here in uk, put washers behind the bottom bolts for the hub, or more professional way is to get camber shims that are a wedge shaped bit of metal with holes for the bolts to pass through, either way it just cambers the hub. Obviously bad for tyre wear and also wears wheel bearings faster.

in the uk & alot of europe, you can get kits to add rear camper on solid beam axles for front wheel drive cars, its just a shim that bolts between the hub & the beam, take a look on some mk1 vw golf/rabbit sites marty! give your you dai kei a bit of rear camper love! small cars have had alot of love in the uk since the original classic mini!!!! for most of the reasons you point out, personanlly have one thats a 1030cc turbo/intercooled pushing 162bhp@487kg, there are plenty faster than mine!

My car has a solid rear beam, i just fit washers between the bottom two studs which holds the drum to the axle. Job done (Y)

i dont have a tiny car but i own a dodge neon, and its a compact car, i must say i love it mostly because the smallness, its no where near the tiny like the blue turd but the reason i love its compactness is mostly the parking is always the easiest, i have to drive a giant GMC van sometimes and its a pain i can park it but its so much more accounting for when you park.

LOVE THIS VIDEO!! I've always had commodore About 4 months ago I bought a Toyota starlet And tbh I get more looks in my starlet then my mates with commos my starlet is baby blue (factory) chopped springs half way down and 15 wheels with white wall flappers in it 5% window tint and a few jdm stickers Not quick but the things spoken about in this video make so much sence and makes up for the power you loose I love my 2 door starlet and wouldn't give it up for the world had many offers for it but

Thumbs up from Germany, you know your stuff and this is a nice change for a more technical approach to things than the usual show. Love your show but this is maaaad as well. =) Especially the handling part was awesome I'd love to see more of that...

My first car was a K11 Micra and loved it... Sadly lost it to rust on the crossmember. Seriously looking at buying a second car, I could go and pick up a 54 plate Suzuka Alto with nearly a year's MOT for £450. And £30 tax!!!!

Another mad small car, is the 86-89 Ford Laser TX3 Hatch. Comes FWD/AWD/AWD Turbo. Mine's just a Jap Spec FWD N/A, but at 800kg, and 64kW Stock, I'm not complaining! ;D

i always drove big trucks and cars with v8s, but when i moved to the city, gas (petrol) expenses were killing me, half a tank every day just to go to school!!!!!! so i went ahead and bought a 1.5L Toyota Tercel, and it's fun to drive, easy to take care of, and less expensive when it comes to gas (petrol consume)

I love small cars I have a 1986 Toyota corolla fxgt with the 4age engine. It feels very fast for what it is and beats a lot of Falcon's/Commodores around my local race track.

Problem is that in some countries you have to re-register your car if you swap the engine, which is super expensive in some countries where you'd buy a small car for the affordability.

Quick Videos like these solo ranting or opinion videos MCM makes are really good for killing the temptation of waiting for the next episode to be released, which roughly takes a couple of weeks to a month sometimes. But it's worth the wait. But I'm loving these videos aswell. Who else agrees?
