I know Marty is more bluesy then metal. But surely both go hand in hand. I often switch from metal to blues to rock to metal as they are all the same family. I seem to recall checking out Marty in the past for one or two metal songs.

Marty I really love your natural guitar playing style, especially the blues major third hammer on lick. Also the intro of your first electric guitar lesson, I try to copy that in order to get better, to showcase what the electric guitar stands for I feel you portray a happy cool vibe with it. Thanks. Communication Breakdown and many other Zep songs were actually considered some of the earliest heavy metal back in the early-mid '70's, when the idea of heavy metal first began to be popularized. (I know. I was there! (: ) A lot of what we now consider Classic Hard Rock was the metal of the time. The definition kinda shifted during the '80's, and really only Sabbath and Judas Priest from the earlier '70's proto heavy metal era are now considered metal anymore. But as late as 1978, Creem Magazine, in a special Heavy Metal edition, was calling Led Zeppelin the High Priests of Heavy Metal, and Led Zeppelin II "quivering chunks of white-hot metal!" People forget that, and a lot of people under 55 or so never knew it. But it helps to bear that in mind as one considers the evolution of the metal genre from what Dee Snider calls "the greasy grey roots of metal" to the form it takes today.
@someguy50352 жыл бұрын
@@seanbaines Most people seem to give Black Sabbath the credit for being the first metal band, but I agree. LZ had more than a couple songs that qualify. Metal doesn't have to just be about satan and death.
@seanbaines2 жыл бұрын
@@someguy5035 Agreed. It almost feels like being gaslighted, sometimes. I was there. Zeppelin were the early kings of what was then called heavy metal, and their harder, heavier songs are foundation tracks of the genre's early development. Sabbath and Judas Priest were very important, of course, but Zep was considered the biggest heavy metal band. The definition of metal has changed as the genre has developed. A lot of the oldest stuff doesn't fit a more contemporary definition. But I think we have to be cautious about reclassification. Yes, Zep fits in well with other progressive hard rock bands from that time. Yes, ultimately, that's how they are best seen. But they co-lead the way in metal's earliest development. That tends to get forgotten when looking at '70's music through a contemporary sensibility. It shouldn't be.

Just strike the sting at an angle, find the harmonic sweet spot around the bridge area and pick up area . Angle of attack is key along with the slight thumb swipe to create the harmonic effect. I find it easy on my telecaster and that’s about it lol

The best metal lesson I ever saw was a lesson with Danny Spitz from Anthrax in an issue of Guitar School magazine from 1992. It was called "Rhythm & Bruise". Basically, he elaborated on the whole Anthrax rhythm technique and went over palm muting, choking the pick (you gotta get some fingernail in there), downstrokes, all of it. I had already sent lessons from Hatfield and Mustaine, but I got more of the one from Spitz than both of them put together.
