It WAS better than the original. It's the best animated X-Men effort there is, poised at the time to be something of a sister series to the even-more amazing Avengers: EMH, but both were done in by early MCU era production mentalities (at least EMH got 2 fantastic seasons rather than 1 and a cancelled 2nd). The only thing wrong with it was the iffy notion of Wolverine in a "leader" role, but eh, you get used to it over the years. Even the comics have done it with the Schism stuff and probably other examples. At least '97 seems like they might be giving Cyke his old level of leaderly respect back.
