The whole point of the character is holding back though. It's temperance. IE, knowing when to hold them and knowing when to fold them and knowing when to use the sword and when to use the pen and the voice. If you mean you wish they'd have more awesome action set pieces like this movie where he's allowed to demonstrate visually his power then I agree, but generally speaking what makes him Superman is that he goes out of his way to avoid big destructive action set pieces even when he inevitably finds himself apart of them.
@theangelgrey.2 жыл бұрын
@@VunderGuy No I mean that the live action Superman adaptations are always significantly weaker than the comic or animated versions. @detenticus2 жыл бұрын
You're absolutely right. Superman is massively overpowered...but I don't think that's what makes him "Super". The fact that he is basically unstoppable, invulnerable and near immortal yet keeps his strength of character in the face of immense temptation and chooses to remain a beacon of decency and hope is what makes him "Superman".
@seriousleesgaming30422 жыл бұрын
Strength of character is exactly what makes Superman compelling. Any of us would end up being somewhere on the Homelander spectrum if we had these powers, and Superman remains a true Paragon. Power does not corrupt him. He's like Captain America with Thor's powers, and we all enjoyed seeing that! haha
@mel-el58622 жыл бұрын
@@seriousleesgaming3042 the crazy difference is superman has the speed to literally end humanity pretty fast. Homelander can get his chin checked by a couple of supes and specialized bullets from a military as his speed and strength is limited. Many people forgot superman has weakness which is kryptonite and his emotions. He also vulnerable against magic user. For example Mr myxztplyx is his enemy and love to toy him around and he can't do anything. There's also chapter in comic where he felt hopeless and he met that minister to asked for guidance. That minister actually from the comic and he also ex- criminal, later on became a good religious person after released from prison.

The extended cut of BvS spends over 40 minutes of run time with various characters discussing this exact question. Everyone from Luthor to Batman to Martha Kent, and they all have different opinions about Superman. That movie, at least that cut, doesn't get the credit it deserves for these intelligent scenes.
@jacob49202 жыл бұрын
Superman comics would have been boring if he didn't have villains to match his general might. That's why most of Superman's villains are either fellow Kryptonians, aliens from other worlds/dimensions, or a psychopath genius human with the entire world's resources at his disposal (Luthor). He's also pretty vulnerable to magic, which means that he has a bit of a problem dealing with villains like Black Adam, or Mxyzptlk.

How most people would be scared of him, scared of the IDEA of him, and would mistrust him immediately. Haters of this film assumed that the movie would depict everybody loving Superman right away, but in reality... most of us would be terrified of the man. Zack decided to be honest about showing people HOW WE ARE, instead of us being portrayed as these "innocents" who need our kittens taken out of trees. Nah, most of us would treat Superman badly at 1st, and wouldn't trust him. THAT is the reality.

We all know the “no killing” rule but this film gave a reason for the rule. After this film he had a reason to never kill again and to learn to take the battle away from civilians. Most importantly you can see how much it pained him to do it. He realised he’d killed the last part of his heritage and embraced his human side. All the flaws he shows are HUMAN flaws so the argument he isn’t relatable goes straight out the window. Amazing film and slated by pod shills who are only willing to accept the Marvel way. I own all the marvel but out of around 30 films there have only been about 4 bad guys I can believe in and relate to. Man of Steel did it with the first movie. Marvel is brilliant at what it is. The same thing happened when he was forced to kill Zod (a alternate universe one at least) in the Man of Steel run of comics (the superman most adults under 50 know).. he realized he didn't have a choice, and had to take a life, and the emotional trauma and journey he went on afterwards is when he truly became Superman.

this movie was so great. they really did the impossible and were able to ground superman. Zod was an amazing villain and the fight scenes are the best that i’ve ever seen. The CGI is great and holds up almost 10 years after. You can tell that everybody put love sweat and tears into making a modern superman and superhero movie in a different way than marvel.

It’s always a pleasure seeing someone watch MOS for the first time. It’s one of the most underrated Superhero films of all time, and my favorite comic book film. I think the reason a lot people hate on this movie is because Zack grounded Superman in reality. People tend to flanderize Superman as being "invincible". Like any character, if you just hit him hard enough, he CAN be hurt/killed. As proven by his battles with characters like Zod, Doomsday, Bizarro, Darkseid, Metallo, Wonder woman, Hawkman, Kryptonite Man, even or Batman.

YOU DON'T KNOW SUPES LIKE THE EXPERT KNOWS... LET ME TELL YOU , SUPERMAN CANNOT BE KILLED EXCEPT BY A RED SUN OR THAT HE ACTUALLY WAS SENT TO ANOTHER KRYPTON LIKE PLANET. SO ON EARTH HE CAN'T DIE... Because OF EARTH 'S SUN IS NOT RED. ALSO EARTH IS NOT KRYPTONIAN LIKE. HIM DYING ON EARTH EATHER BY DOOMSDAY 'S HANDS OR A NUKE OR WHATEVER.... INCLUDING HARD BLOWS BY ANY POWERFUL GOD LEVEL 1 CHARACTER LIKE BLACK ADAM, OR EVEN ANY GOD LEVEL 3 MUTANT CHARACTER FROM MARVEL LIKE DARK PHOENIX OR SCARLETT WITCH ETC..... IS NOT GOING TO KILL HIM AS REALLY (DEAD) 100% BECAUSE THE MOST IS GOING TO DO IS PUT HIM TO SLEEP IN A COMATIC STATE BECAUSE SUPERMAN ON EARTH IS LIKE A RECHARGABLE BATTERY. ALSO SUPES CAN FIGHT THE LIKES OF DR.MANHATTAN BECAUSE SUPES AT SOME POINT CONCENTRATED HIS BODY IN BECOMING PARTICLE LIKE TO ESCAPE A PRISON. SO HE CONVERTED HIS PHISYCAL BODY INTO QUANTUM LEVEL PARTICLES. THIS IS ALL CANON AND OF COURSE IF YOU ARE NOT A SUPERMAN EXPERT YOU WILL MISS JUST HOW POWERFUL IS A GOD LEVEL 1 BEING IS CAPABLE OF. BUT IF WE TALK ABOUT GOD LEVEL 3 THEN WE HAVE TO MENTION DORMAMMU , GALACTUS, ETERNITY ETC....

The origin story featured here in Man of Steel is pretty close to the original comics with a few liberties taken. This probably the best DCEU film, aside from the first Wonder Woman and Zack Snyder Justice League, in my opinion. I wouldn't go out of my way to watch the others though 🤷 But to get the full story the DCEU is trying to tell, I wouldn't skip any of the movies with your first watch of this universe. I love how they made Superman relatable with this iteration because you can feel the humanity in him. With this iteration of Superman, he doesn't just feel like a god with human qualities, he feels human with god qualities. This version, the emotions they give to Superman, and how he struggles and questions himself and the world, it makes him far more human than previous versions, I think anyway. The way he deals struggles between his abilities and his humanity and him feeling like he doesn't belong is, I think, how it would be if someone like him existed in the real world. Before this, Superman has normally been portrayed, in movies and shows, as someone who hasn't dealt with any real human emotions or problems, which, to me, is why this version is probably my favorite. You can actually relate to him on a human level.
@dinoj20822 жыл бұрын
This followed the back story in the comics on the main points but added so much more nuance - the scene after Clark saves the school bus and asks his father, "Should I let them die?" and his father's answer "maybe" is one of my favorite scenes in this movie. Henry Cavil brings depth to the story with a restrained performance when, in many super hero movies, overacting in the norm. Many movies seem to have battles that destroy cities with few repercussions but the battle and damage done by Superman and Zod in Metropolis is a plot point in Batman v Superman so at least Superman doesn't get a total pass on that element of the film.

Marvel guy here but acknowledges the greatness of DC properties like Superman and Batman. This was a tremendously good adaptation of the Superman story. The citizens on Krypton are known as houses. The “El” family lead by Jor-El (Superman’s father) and the “S” on his chest is just the family symbol crest. If you go back to the beginning you can see all the Kryptonian’s have symbols on their wardrobe. Kal-El is known as Clark Kent on Earth. In comic book lore - Jonathan Kent dies of a heart attack on the farm. Clark has a surreal experience as with all his powers he couldn’t save his father. This of course was changed for this story and I think it was very effective.
