I've always liked Iron Man 3. I didn't really know much about Shane Black or his films before watching this when it first came out though. But now that I'm watching it having seen more Shane Black movies and him also becoming my favourite screenwriter, I'm really enjoying this movie this time round. I'm not sure I'd call it my *favourite* superhero movie, but it's definitely one I really like.

J Man, if this guy thinks that this movie has the best "political commentary" of any superhero film ever, I'm not going to piss in his mouth just because he said that. If that's how he feels, then good for him. But I personally find it hard to understand how does this-- lebuzz.eurosport.fr/wp-content/uploads/sites/3/2016/01/complicated.gif --transforms into a movie with "the best political commentary of an superhero film ever".

Maybe showing behind the scenes where's there's a fool who trivializes and with little understandings of the wider ramifications, shows the hollowness of projected ideologies. As he himself shows that the symbolic power of the "enemy" presented to us, is a lie, because it's more complicated and in the end nonsensical to what it seems. But whatever, maybe I'm being silly

I never got the IM3 love. Probably because Black's style isn't something I find as thrilling as Eric says. I thought that Tony arc towards the middle was really poorly done. Everything was a bit too sloppy. It has some funny moments and some genuinely heartfelt scenes but overall i felt it was a bit too... "slapsticky" I'd say.
@Aladelicous7 жыл бұрын
I'd say I'm kinda the opposite, I don't get the IM3 hate. Especially in comparison the love (and free pass) the vast majority of Marvel movies gets and how fiercely some people defend the recent DC movies.

In the beginning of the video, The person who tweeted Eric that "weird" question was actually me lol! Thanks for the mention. I really didn't mean for the question to be weird nor was I implying anything lol. I was just asking if he were a regular audience member like me who at that time had never heard of Shane Black and didn't read Iron comics, would he have liked that film? From this video I got my answer that he most likely still would have. It's still really surprising to me since I've heard that Eric loves the Mandarin from the comics and still ended up loving this film for what Shane Black was portraying it to be. That's really amazing. I agree with the notion that a comic book Film can deviate from the comics as long as it WORKS within the film and what that film is trying to be. Anyways, I loved Iron Man 3 a lot. Shane Black FTW!!!
@ssrivastav04948 жыл бұрын
1. Well I'm not a comic book fan and I absolutely loved this film! There are many regular people who loved this movie and many who didn't. I don't get your point lol. People are going to have different opinions. 2. According to Eric's Iron Man 3 review, he did state that he liked the Mandarin I believe, but i could be wrong. 3. Lol thanks for your opinion. I think Iron Man 3 really works even though it's deviating from the comics. Lots of movies deviate from the comics and still work. Look at the Dark Knight trilogy. I honestly don't think Nolan gave two shits about the comics. He crafted his OWN story with those movies. Was there a Rachel in the comics? Was joker really an anarchist in the comics? Two-face's origin was different and Bane looked really different from the comics. But it still works because of good film direction and writing. I won't ever know the feeling of a true comic book fan and I'm glad that I don't...I'm glad to be me and not a comic book fan. You should know that there are true comic book Iron man fans who love this movie too. So you can debate with them if you want lol. Thanks for commenting anyways! :)

I really like this movie, it's kind of special. It's the closest to auteurist cinema Marvel has ever broached, and it has a remarkably layered script. It's a shame I didn't like this movie when I first saw it, it's something different and gets better every time I watch it. I love the meta-joke of Ben Kingsley playing a British actor playing a middle-eastern character. It's funny because he's SIR Ben Kingsley! He's British, but only ever seems to be cast as middle-eastern characters from Gandhi, to Prince of Persia, to The Love Guru, to about a million other movies across his entire career.
@azcreative55144 жыл бұрын
Gandhi is Indian not Middle Eastern 🤦♂️. Nor is Love Guru. Ben Kingsley is half Indian. That's the reason he was chosen for those roles.

Eric, the scene where Tony calms down actually isn't how it works. Depending on the severity of the panic attack, it can take 10 minutes to an hour to calm yourself down. Obviously, that wouldn't work in a movie so I understand why it's done the way it is.
@redleaderantilles12638 жыл бұрын
Ahead of time thoughts. I LOVE this film. It is my seconds favorite superhero movie ever. It is so freaking good., It is more like comic book Iron Man than ever, it has a great theme that is done subtly, as an Iron Man fan I don't mind the Mandarin thing at all in fact it is the best part of the film. It is a massive risk that pays off and is the lynch pin of the main theme. It is necessary to the story. or in other words #EricIsMySpiritAnimal

"It is more like comic book Iron Man than ever," How, can I ask you? Can you please elaborate more on that? I've been an Iron Man fan for the majority of my life. I've been reading his comics permanently since the 1998. And I don't see where this is anything like the comics. Heck, X-Men Origins is more accurate to the comics than this movie. "as an Iron Man fan" Can you say who is John Fergurson and how he is related to Iron Man comics? Just a little trivia question. "I don't mind the Mandarin thing at all in fact it is the best part of the film. " Thank you for decreasing the value of your original statement. Anyway, this movie is an insult to any Iron Man fan. Bob Layton said it best: "This movie feels like a bad opera."
@redleaderantilles12638 жыл бұрын
Why are you so hostile about this? People can both be fans of a character an disagree on what is a good rendition of said character. Also why bring up little trivia? That is such an elitist and quit frankly dick thing. You don't need to know everything to be a fan and even if someone does that does not mean we all have the same opinions on the overall character. get 50 die hard Batman fans in a room and you get 50 different opinions on the dark knight. Same applies here. I see this as being more like the comics in the fact that it deal more with Tony's addictions in this case to the suit. he is still not comic Ton but he is given a very comic Tony arc in a way. Also how does that last quote decrease the value of my original statement exactly?
@MachineFuckingHate8 жыл бұрын
“Why are you so hostile about this?” Because I don’t like pathological liars that create lies in order to make a point. “People can both be fans of a character an disagree on what is a good rendition of said character.” Some people would also consider being raped in the ass as a good thing. Doesn’t mean that it’s actually a good thing. “Also why bring up little trivia?” Because I want to see if you are an actual fan and not some phony faker who says that he’s a fan in order to validate his opinion. “That is such an elitist and quit frankly dick thing. You don't need to know everything to be a fan and even if someone does that does not mean we all have the same opinions on the overall character.” So you can’t answer my question? Okay. “get 50 die hard Batman fans in a room and you get 50 different opinions on the dark knight.” But most of them will tell you that Batman shouldn’t have nipples on his costume. “Same applies here.” Nope. “I see this as being more like the comics in the fact that it deal more with Tony's addictions in this case to the suit.” This movie doesn’t really deal with Tony’s addictions. It trivializes everything what was complex about him in the comics. There is no preamble and no consequences for his problems. He just acts like a clueless idiot for the bigger half of the movie, but then gets better. “he is still not comic Ton but he is given a very comic Tony arc in a way.” Hardly. The best arc, and the most comic-like one, was given to him in the first Iron Man. Iron Man 2 and 3 ruined Ton Stark as a character in a way. “Also how does that last quote decrease the value of my original statement exactly?” Because you said that you think this movie is the most comic book accurate Iron Man movie, but then you contradicted yourself when you complimented a specific aspect from the movie that’s unarguably nothing like the comics.

Don't bother Red, this guy practically always gets an unhealthy mental breakdown every time someone compliments Iron Man 3. There's no point in debating with him, he'll just keep rambling on how he was raped and how you're " wrong" for liking Iron Man 3 and saying it's a great movie.

I find Eric often grating and hyperbolic. I disagree with him often. But every once in a while we really see eye to eye. This is one of those times. The backlash against this film was the start of the fandom actively disengaging with the filmmakers and simply wanting to see the same uniform thing over and over. It's no wonder literally every MCU since Iron Man 3 (sans Guardians) has felt exactly the same.As soon as a filmmaker lends their voice to the MCU and has some creative spark...the fanboys tear it to pieces. The MCU doesn't have directors anymore. It has on set supervisors put in place to do Disney and Kevin Feige's bidding.

This is probably my favorite movie of Marvel's phase 2. The story is completely character-driven, the dialogue is consistently terrific, the action is extremely entertaining while also being completely theme-driven, RDJ's performance is fantastic as ever, etc... The villain is not impressive, and the climax has some problems, but other than that, this movie is close to perfect.

The second time I saw this movie it was on a plane and they cut from Iron Man killing the guy in the Iron Patriot suit to Iron Man being hit by the truck. Also I don't know anything about cars but the car Tony drives at the end says e-tron on the side and I nearly jumped out of my seat when I first noticed that even though that is probably just an actual type of car.

This movie I feel is really good and though it has its problems, seeing Tony Stark be handy and fight super powered foes efficiently was awesome as it defeated the 8-year-old kid or ignorant person argument of "Without the armor Tony Stark is Useless". The biggest sin of this movie I feel is how they make Tony React to Pepper "seemingly" dying. When I first saw this I expected Tony to be in a rage akin to when he was mad and yelling at people in Iron Man 2 but instead he just starts joking again. Like I get its sort of his way to cope stress and insecurities but that was PEPPER who just died. There should be no insecurities, his mind should be set at that Killian killed Pepper and this son of a bitch is gonna die now. Like how Tony acted when he saw his Parents get killed in Civil War was exactly the reaction I wanted in this film. Like it could've been perfect Tony could've been is a rage trying to kill Killian making him sloppy and not think thus being his downfall. Tony being on the ropes is about to be killed by Killian when suddenly Pepper comes and saves him. Tony awestruck and happy that Pepper is alive hugs her tight.After like a few seconds of silence Pepper hears Tony heavily breathing and she asks if he's having another panic attack but he says no he's just happy she's alive. And then he initiates the self-destruction of all his suits then the movie continues like usual. *BOOM* Movie better

I like this film, but I don't find it to be a great watch. It has very interesting ideas, but the film is underwritten in other areas and that combined with the humor undercuts the film. I do like the idea of the humor as it helps to depower the fear behind terrorism, but I feel that much of the humor leaves me wanting to do something else while watching the movie. The way the film is written fails to leave impact on me other than the theme. It's the difference between how the story is told versus what the story is about. I think the first act is good, but when he gets to Tennessee the movie just stalls, and I don't care about Harley at all. I think it barely provides anything to the film and the actor isn't that great. All in all, the film is good, and I love the Mandarin reveal, for the most part, and Killian's motivation and plan, but there are too many things that accumulate to instill a powerful sense of apathy while watching the film.
