Great review. I chuckle when I see new fans after playing this game getting excited and hoping for Midnight Suns sequel, meanwhile us older firaxis fans will soon complete a decade waiting for Xcom 3

I’m playing it right now. It’s an absolutely badass game and SO engrossing if you love the Marvel universe of characters.

I'll echo literally everyone here and say this was a game I totally did not expect to like, having almost no aspects of it that would appeal to me in theory. Well, I kinda liked the Firaxis X-COM games and have been into tactics games recently, but this one was very different. And I'm not into the superhero stuff and everything else at all. I think the game's biggest strength is that there's not one aspect of it that's totally overpowering (in terms of length, amazingness, etc) to the expense of the other elements of the game. The tactical missions are short and sweet. The Abbey grounds have enough for you to explore, but not so huge that it's overwhelming. The friendship-building is deep enough to be engaging but also isn't so grindy that you won't have most of your heroes maxed out before the end game. And then the story moves along in bits and pieces as you do all of the above, no twenty minute unskippable cutscenes here. The game's main gimmick - the card building - kinda seems random and grindy at first but a) you get cards all the darn time just by playing (gamma coils, hero ops, side quests), and b) a little bit into the game you can fill in the gaps with ability crafting. Honestly, I see a lot of blame on the marketing, and it wasn't great to be sure. But I think the best aspects of this game was unmarketable anyway, given the current state of gaming and marketing. It's a unique game whose core strength is that it's much more than the sum of its parts. I'm not a Marvel or other comic superhero type of guy, and I'm not into the create-a-hero Western RPG thing either, but I quite got into "my" Hunter because I didn't care for either of those lol. I dunno, it's hard to explain. But whoever is reading this and are curious: totally get this game, it's very underrated and loads and loads of fun.

This video just popped up on my YT feed. I haven't seen the whole thing but I clicked on it based on the headline to make this comment: YES, ABSOLUTELY UNDERRATED. I didn't buy the game at launch because, to be honest, the trailers did not look very good. When reviews came out and they were generally positive from websites that people on YT hate with a passion and love to dunk on, that made me intrigued. I bought it a few months later when it was on sale and I really enjoyed it. I bought the season pass and played all the DLC content and really want to play again. The story is very interesting. The characters are all three dimensional and different and sometimes better than how they are portrayed in the MCU. The combat was new to me and it took me a bit to get used to it and to understand the strategy behind the moves. By the end, I could dominate the field using a few of my favorite characters like Blade or Wolverine. It is on my top 5 games of all time and I really want to play it again. My only complaint is on some technical issues like crashing or audio bugging out on the Series X. It's such a shame that it didn't sell and I hope the devs can make a new one based on the reaction it is getting later and how positive it is online. I think marketing did not market the game very well. Also, just from my perspective, hearing about Avengers and how messed up it was, made me a bit skeptical on super hero games. The same is true for Guardians of the Galaxy which also was not marketed properly and did not sell. The thing that really sucks is that with games this not selling, publishers think that single player games are not successful and they will push developers to make shitty live service games like Suicide Squad. I think, we as consumers, if we care about good solid single player experiences, we have to support them when they come out. I made a mistake not buying the game at launch and I regret that. If we don't buy them, when they come out, the decision makers think the only games that should be made are live service ones with tons of micro transactions.

I had no clue this game existed until earlier this year and when it became available on ps plus extra, I jumped on it. I’ve spent nearly 50 hours on the game and I’ve been playing for about a week. I’ve absolutely fallen in love with it and I can’t wait to buy the dlc.

Underrated (both game and channel)

Thank you. After playing the crap out of Baldurs gate and divinity, I needed something to fill that void a little bit. Bought it right away 👍

I've been playing it too since it became free on PS plus extra. Pretty fun and addictive a game a bit. I can't believe I never thought of giving it a chance until now. It 100% is a friendship sim and lowkey a shame we couldn't romance anyone

The marketing definitely hurt the games sales, just about any ad I got for it online had people thinking that it was a mobile game in the comments
@1wayroad9352 ай бұрын
I blame marketing for what happened here. Everyone thought that this was going to be X-Com with Marvel characters and they dropped the ball on clarifying what the strengths of the game is.
@badfoody2 ай бұрын
or the MCU gamer market isn't into the XCom style
@agreatmanlookingtotheright2 ай бұрын
I didnt touch the game cause the marketing was so ass only to discover it was the perfect game for me. If they emphasized the friendship stuff more and explained the deck building aspect this would be a day 1 purchase.

I give the tactical gameplay 11/10. ...and give the interstitial dating simulator 0/10. I think they hamstrung themselves picking a venn diagram intersection that just doesnt have enough people in it.

The only big criticism I have for this game is that they definitely intended fem hunter to be the intended cannon because when I first made my male hunter I was shocked to see him walk around and stand like a baddie in the abby lol. Still a great game tho but a little immersion breaking
@1wayroad9352 ай бұрын
What, you don't walk around like that when you wear tight spandex and have that kind of assets?

I love the game just got it for pc but I am having issues performance wise I have a beast of a rig with 3090 and lots of bells and whistles but I can’t avoid screen tearing without turning on vsync and I hate vsync cause of the input delay. Anyone else have similar issues or a fix potentially ? Thanks and great video

I liked the combat and gameplay of this game but the wandering around the headquarters searching for things and talking to characters/forging relationships was kinda boring to me. I know these characters from comics already and I found the conversations pretty bland. It's what ended turning me off the game after 4-5 hours. Every time I had to come back to the Abbey to go through the whole routine again, it wore on me quickly.
@orangesoda45352 ай бұрын
The combat sections were alright, but the RPG/base systems just put me off entirely.

I will never not feel some level of annoyance at 2K and Firaxis for promising this game to those of us reliant on the Switch and then dashing our hopes. I was excited for this game. I really wanted to play it. But once they took away my chance to even try it? Screw them. They deserve every bit of failure this game got them.

so it's not one of them gacha things? if its not, then marketing this game is impossibly hard, as the only thing i know about it isn't even correct.
@joshevertonyt2 ай бұрын
Nope, no gacha aspect at all. Yeah, it's a very strange game to view from the outside
