The Spider-man PS1 games are from the 90s and aren't open-world. Try comparing SM2 2023 to SM2 2004 or Web of Shadows. By doing that, it would be a lot easier to understand why many are hard on Insomniac's game. In certain aspects, the 2 I mentioned are far better.

9.5/10 I really enjoyed it and didn't see a lot of problems with the story. The only part I feel like could need some improvement is the length of the time Peter had the symbiote. One thing I would've liked to see, though it might be asking for too much, is a "choose your character" moment when it came to the Peter v. Miles fight which could have changed the story a little bit depending on who you chose, but still ending the game with the same ending. In my opinion, Spider-Man 2 is the best out of the three games, but the first two have a lot of nostalgia for me; playing Spider-Man 1 for the first time on my PS4; playing Miles Morales around Christmas time on my PS4. All in all based on nostalgia, the first two games win, but in terms of gameplay Spider-Man 2 wins. Venom level is my favorite gaming moment of 2023.

Spider-Man two is a great game, but the narrative is definitely holding back for me. Still the game is still 8 out of 10 traversal gameplay are the biggest highlights of the game approving on every aspect who made the first game. Great but the first game just have a better narrative.

I loved the gameplay with the improved webswinging and combat with the new parry system which feels amazing! Also the bosses I feel don’t get enough credit they really are some of the funnest I faced in superhero games let alone spider man games. But I was left throughly disappointed with the rushed symbiote arc since that is my favourite suit for Spider-Man and I love so much games and comics involving them. So I felt somewhat incomplete after the game kinda just sitting there like “is that it?” Because I expected a lil more time and Peter growing more and more of bond depth emotion and dependency on the symbiote suit similar to spectacular Spider-Man. Like how Peter became addicted to it and needed more and more. I felt they sorta did it but way to rushed and not enough time escoically if we could have those venom voices in our heads build up more and more getting more frequent in missions. Instead we only got them for that mission before fighting kraken and miles. Great game but just unbearable disappointment when it comes to the black suit and its story with Peter. There’s so much more I would like to say but then I’d be yapping for too long.

I personally never met someone who genuinely loves this game like i do......... Yes, i believe spider-man 2 had it flaws like the combat feeling less polished as spider-man Miles morales and the gadgets lacking compared to the first. However, i still believe this game is a masterpiece. Most of the people hating on the game were glazing the game on launch, saying it was the best. Maybe due to the insomniac leaks and all the cut content videos as well as the dlc road map leak. i still dont think insomniac deseves the hate as they had a deadline for this game. All of the cut content will most likely be in spider-man 3, making it an even better game than we antispate. I believe it's a 9/10 even tho the end game content like dlcs are lacking, the story was very enjoyable especially during the black suit act,i do enjoy the albilites as symbiote peter aswell as the agresive nature to his move set, yuris voice acting was next level, especially when he had the symbiote suit and toward the end when hes fighting venom/harry. Swinging was next level and the best since web of shadows mabe even better then web of shadows I hope you enjoyed my take on this game. If you have a different opinion, please share Edit: I believe the anti-venom plot should have happend after this game to show peter guit of not saving harry-maybe in the venom lethal protecter game if the leaks are true it's feels rushed an not well explained maybe this is why many say the 3rd act was rushed. Edit 2(as i didn't talk about miles in the base game):Miles story arc is also great about him not living up to the hero he's supposed to be-this is seen in the when he fights martin Lee and when the prisoners escape- he fears of not be a good hero like his dad. It reflects Peters story arc as both wanting revenge Miles and lee and peter and kraven however it showes miles stopping his hate for Lee and to save Peters life. I hope miles morales gets recognition he deserves and becomes the definitive spider-man for the kids growing up in this age like Toby and Andrews take on peter parker did for me. I still love peter parker as spider-man and think he's the best one but miles shines a new light on the spider-man character.

I love the game as well, I just think the first game set the bar really high and people were expecting the sequel to surpass it, making them expect certain things, then getting disappointed after finding out it wasn't there. IMO I prefer SM2 overall over SM1 even though the story of SM1 had such an impact on me. Although I wish SM2 story was a bit longer, I really enjoyed playing it. My only complaints are I wish we saw venom more and I wish peter had the symbiote longer. But I love this game so much.

the symbiote part should've been fleshed out more maybe an introduction to uncle ben would've been interesting since he plays a huge part in saving peter most times. it would've been cool to see peters internal struggle as spiderman trying to measure and balance injustice and justice. really sucks that sony rushed the entire development process and I do hope that sometime in the future they do a directors cut to rectify it and add more to the game. it also sucks that they hacked so bad they had to push back a lot of games and plans for current games, so hopefully one day they might do a directors cut.

I think part of how I’d describe SM2 is a ‘moment’s game’. Many individual moments, taken in isolation, were really good. But the connective tissue between them is often lacklustre. Like, the final fight against Venom is pretty emotional, but it could’ve hit harder if Peter had had more time to be a horrible person and if Harry was subsequently being given more time as Venom. The game has great set pieces. But I sometimes feel they kind of got in the way of giving us more grounded scenes without spandex. Such scenes could’ve given a better setup to what sometimes were undercooked payoffs. Considering how many characters and plot lines there are in this game (there are two Spider-Men, after all), the game really should’ve been a bit longer than the first one. The whole story works in theory for me, but just parts of the way it’s executed don’t really do it for me.

The thing that really lacked for me is the size of the content for the sequel. For example (God of War Ragnarok) it had more content then God of War 2018. And I finished and platinum this game in like 2 days. Definitely could have had more content.

The first act was boring honestly, too much non-action. The whole coney island (sorry if i spelled that wrong) gameplay was useless, could've just been a cutscene with a quick time event when they were playing the hammer hitting minigame. Also i felt like venom wasn't done that good. He just felt like avengers ultron with fixing the world but the wrong way, venom is supposed to be a anti-hero, villain if done right, it doesn't help the fact that they rushed him. But thats Sony's fault, also the fact you have to use a glitch to be venom post-game is insane, spiderman 1 had the green goblin as a post-game character, and to anyone who tries to argue with that i want to remind you that you can use black symbiote abilities and black tendril colors after beating the game even tho peter didnt have venom after the story ended. And i just found out that in miles morales you can select different types of weather separately from times of day, but in spiderman 2 you can only select rainy fog, no rain during night. For the positives the photo mode is amazing, poses are a huge upgrade from selfie mode, and don't say you miss selfie mode even tho you can just select a pose and move your camera to make it look like spidey is actually taking a selfie. The lighting options in photo mode are amazing too, too bad we didn't get chibi venom stickers. Also the traversal is a huge upgrade, the web wings help you when being in a place with less things to swing on or just to get extra momentum. This game is still good tho And still in the 2nd place among spiderman and miles morales 7.5/10

I don't have a PS5 and I have it played the game but from what I've seen and and heard I would say it's amazing game I would give it a 9 out of 10 honestly most of this stuff could have been fixed if the game was at least 60 maybe 70 minutes long because I feel like it would have gone more in depth with how Peter got the anti-venom suit and it will hit even harder if in Peter's mind we saw Aunt May's death scene with Peter on masked himself and Lee sees that he has hurt Peter and me the two people he was close to and who saw the good side of him yeah happened to villains multiple villains in the game kind of felt cluttered but all things considered even fixing the pacing a little bit would have helped with that and it wasn't a Time conception most likely I feel like Venom shouldn't have been taken out the way he did as in like the fight still happened and they defeated Venom it's just Harry would have more sense of clarity after and we would see him as Agent Venom or keep his role as just regular Venom but in a more controlled state

The criticism and comments sums it up, it’s just what I expected. Most of us truly relish the gameplay & we were somewhat charmed by the cinematics of the story but the story didn’t maintain us on that wave. Im thinking about games like the RDR2 story where you still think about it years after the fact. I played MS2 3 times because I appreciate certain aspects of the story but more importantly the fluid & invigorating gameplay. The story disappointed me to a degree but more than that the mediocre side missions that leave you wanting more nuances and variety. I will probably play it again on PC on high settings but Insomniac… actually Sony, don’t rush insomniac again!

Miles was barely in the game after everyone hyped up the fact we could be two different spiderman. Greetings l truly enjoyed the first one although l disliked when it went dark after the virus was let loose, however all it was simply amazing. l also liked all the run ins with the supervillains and the varied missions, it was great. The second one had a lot of missing parts, l thought Norman would be more active as well as Harry and there was no continuation from the part where Harry was almost dead in the last and what happened. Or even what happened to Dr Octavius and his time in prison. Or even how Norman was dealt with if at all but the authoritiies. The symbiote angle really detracted from it, not to repeat what others have said, in summary the story was underwhelming. If l would score them 2017 12/10 2023 7.5/10 Anyway that is what l saw, you could of course see things differently.

The story of this sequel is a mess and is what truly prevents it from making this sequel a great game. I prefer story over gameplay. Especially when it continues from the previous installment. I do not know what happened to make the story feel off when the third act comes in, but I truly hope that storyline telling is fixed when the third game comes out.

I think story wise it's 7.5 for gameplay and alt suits it's a 12/10 in my personal opinion I still love this game but third act was mid as heck

Its objectively a 9. Thats what metacritic and most people say i don't get why people keep trying to go back and act like the score was bad or something. Its better than the first game in everyway and the first game is a masterpiece. So that means the second game is also..well i don't even need to say it its obvious. Easily the BEST spider-man game ever The verdict is that its AMAZING! Also these criticisms suck and aren't even elaborating

How is it objectively a 9? Your opinion isnt fact. The story is heavily flawed rushing the venom arc and shitting all over peter as a character to prop miles up. Miles side content was pretty bad in this game too where the first game maintained an overall high standard in side missions. Not to mention how much worse the mj missions are in this game when they shouldnt even be a thing at all

@@thegreatacolyt1277 ehh, the swinging and overall traversal was better, but other strange aspects were downgraded. Like MJ’s model, the gadgets, OG villains being killed off screen and barely even acknowledged, and Peter being so sidelined+nerfed and it was like no one respected Peter including himself which was just so weird to me. Peter literally gets knocked down by a fridge, gets saved by miles multiple times, his whole character felt mistreated it was like the writers disliked him. And the bugs, launch was rough. Too many things were rushed, it had too many flaws overall that make it easily a tier or 2 below the original imo

The verdict in Marvel's Spider-Man 2, for me at least is a 6/10, & boy does that suck. 6/10 isn't inherently bad, but it's definitely not where it should've been. Story was definitely not on par in quality with the first game. And Insomniac failed to take more risks with the gameplay, which dissapoints me because you're playing a game for the gameplay first, then the story. I have other quarrels with this game, but I'd rather not drag this comment for too long. Plus who truly cares anyway?

The story is a 8.5 for me good but doesnt hit the spot. The gameplay is a 6.5 for me the webswinging pissed me off. The suits a 6.5/10 too much ugly suits. In total spiderman 2 is a 8/10 for me.
