The 1000 tokens for a duplicate card is the worst. Zabu was in the spotlight, and I pulled a duplicate Zabu base card for 1000 tokens. So not only did I not get the cool variant, I also traded a key for 1000 tokens. FEELS BAD, MAN.

I played Snap from launch up until May of this year. I realized I was sinking too much time into it trying to keep up, but getting continually frustrated at falling behind in card acquisition. Arishem’s looming release was the final nail in the coffin; I wanted nothing to do with that meta from the jump. A few times since, I’ve missed Snap’s gameplay and almost gone back before realizing how far behind I now am and how that would just exacerbate my prior issues. It’s such a fun game but I can’t go back until card acquisition is improved significantly. Pokémon TCG Pocket however is scratching that itch enough I might not go back anyways. I don’t mind the more casual feel of battles as it puts less pressure on me so I can play it as a time killer instead of trying to grind out as much as possible to chase cards. At least at this early stage, it’s easy enough to get free hourglasses that I’m opening 5 or so packs a day instead of 2 and I’ve only spent $0.99 so far. It’s a fun little experience that I will probably enjoy for quite a while without sinking anymore money into it, and I wish I could say the same for Snap because it was so fun for so long.

Thank you for the honest comparison Nina! I absolutely loved the video and you bring a great perspective with your time playing snap. I tried coming back to snap a couple months ago after not playing for 6 months and only lasted about a week. It feels so bad to constantly go up against cards you have no chance of acquiring in the near future as you go up the ladder. I'm really hoping Pocket adds a ladder quick which will really give folks a reason to say on the app outside of their 2 packs a day.

As a former Pokemon TCG online player, I can assure you teading does not make it less expensive. Even if you have EX cards you want to trade of those are not meta cards people wont want them and they will be asking a lot for the ones that you want, the ones that are most coveted.

Cautiously optimistic about Pocket. I haven't played Snap in several months after going on a 7-month/8-try streak of needing all 4 keys to unlock a card, falling from 3 cards away from collection complete to more than 12 away. Sure the system is fine when it takes an average of 2.5 keys to open a new card, but someone has to fail in order to bring the average to the middle, and that someone is me. The gameplay is not *nearly* compelling enough to deal with that forever.

Well said Nina! Marvel SNAP became a Gacha game the moment they released spotlight caches. They even introduced gacha monetization aspects like the 30days gold and the double gold 1st time purchase. Ofc they are removing the later because as they said it was devastating for the game's economy, which is the wrong move. No idea who is responsible for those decisions but I have lost any little faith that I had for SD.

I finished series 3 at 4600 CL. I can only imagine those that are joining the game now. And there will be drops in December that will make it even longer. They are not paying attention to what is happening.
@RickReasonnzАй бұрын
The fact that there is NO catch-up mechanic aside from whipping out your credit card is severely telling. Wouldn't hurt them to offer low CL players additional Collectors Tokens to get them up to speed. I started just after launch, and I cannot imagine starting afresh now.
@nuruhu5122Ай бұрын
@@RickReasonnz the one thing I know I needed was more tokens but a better idea would be a series 3 vault in which once players have enough tokens, they could buy the Series 3 cards they want directly and not wait for it to show up in the shop or have to wait for the RNG of opening a cache to get it. That coupled with more tokens would help them tremendously because they would have unlocked series 4 and 5 cards as well. It’s a frustrating grind and I know that once there is a catch-up mechanic they will keep more players.
@RickReasonnzАй бұрын
@@nuruhu5122 Hm. Series 3 Vault would be useful. Even a random 3 they don't have per week at maybe 500, 1000... and while they're at it, they could reduce the Colllectors Tokens required for S4 and 5! For a casual player jeeeeez it takes so long to amass enough for a card. 2500/5000 would be nice.

The pocket meta is one of the things that I hate the most about Snap and I don't feel like it gets much attention. As much as I enjoy some meta shifts, whenever a new card releases or when a card gets changed for the better it's very annoying to play with it. Either you play a lot of mirror matches, or you play with people trying to counter your new card deck, it's very unfun. As much as I like new additions, I think I'd enjoy them a lot more if all cards of a season were released together monthly, like an expansion, would take a lot more time for people to test new decks, the pocket metas wouldn't be so aggressive.

Thanks for talking and emphasize economy in MS, I know they have to make money, otherwise it wouldn't be free, but hopefully SDs can make it more accessible to people who only want to play for entertainment and sometimes spend money to get some variant, because yeah, if you stop playing, as it happened to me, you will feel like you can't get to date in cards since everytime they are realizing another one and when you spend an spotlight key you get a dup and trade it for only 1k tokens .-. A fix for Pokemon Pocket from getting stale but affordable would be to adopt a similar strategy to what Legends of Runeterra did. Introduce mini expansions periodically in between Major expansions. It might feel awful to drop 200 every month as opposed to every three or four months, but not so bad to drop say 50 A couple times in between the 200 . Legends had a good system they just screwed themselves by giving away TOO MUCH for something that frankly a juggernaut like Pokemon could charge pennies for and still net a fortune.

SNAP NEEDS cosmetic boards. I only ever buy card variants and never touch borders, emotes, or any other cosmetic but I'd buy pretty much any game board cosmetic SD adds. Even if you only see the board on your screen (though they could have the option available to see your opponents board and if they're using a cosmetic you can use it too would be nice). But anyways I'm surprised SD hasn't added or at least mentioned cosmetic game boards in their road maps. Just seems like a no brainer to me (but maybe it's harder to implement in the game than I think it is- idk)

In the end it comes down to what game I have more fun in during the time I'm using the restroom lol. I've played Pocket TCG as well and although the quality is pretty high up there, the actual gameplay portion isn't really too exciting. I don't get the same itch as I do in Snap where I want to try out a new deck or play. A new combo that sounds good in my head (usually absolute crap in practice lol). I didn't really get that same itch with Pocket TCG. It felt like 70-80% card collection and the actual battle feels like just a little bonus. Definitely hope they expand on that more than on people spending money on packs but so-far every single mobile Pokemon has had some kind of paywall. PoketTCG didn't look too bad, so I hope it stays the way it is. That said I've played Snap since launch and kept playing. A new player? As you said in the video I don't know how well that experience is going to be. There's no good catch up mechanic. Snap should offer some small boost for getting Series 3 complete like either 12000 tokens, 8 keys, or your choice of 2 Series 5 cards. Something. I don't feel like anyone absolutely MUST own every single card in the game but it is true that the acquisition in Snap is abysmal if you aren't in a higher CL and even then you still have to take your pick of the month. As we get more and more cards release as Series 5 it just makes it increasingly difficult to compete in the meta, especially if they aren't doing anything about improving acquisition. Definitely excited for more competition though. Hopefully it's large enough in the space to get SD to rethink some of their business strategies.

been playing since beta on pocket, been playing two accounts since launch on marvel snap, my honest opinion is that there will be more players playing pocket and content and twitch creators will realize that and follow the money leaving brode and sd devs to rejuggle this economy, i think 5 - 8 dollar bundles are going to be rampant. once people realize that pocket has no location balogne and way less toxic without the emoting that might be the more chill game to play. hopefully new cards will come out in pocket to keep the chase alive. take care.

While I love the honest comparison, I felt like that it's not fair for those who are not as lucky as you as that member of your community. Been playing Pocket everyday (getting the 2 packs + opening using hourglasses) and I only managed to get 1 immersive art Pikachu and 1 crown Pikachu (already considered myself lucky for these). Have been opening Mew and Charizard packs and still haven't got either immersive nor crowns 😅 And I really do think it's incredibly important to highlight that in the end games and devs need to make money. In Snap, aside from the spotlight caches, getting a card is guaranteed, whereas in Pocket you need to accumulate pack points to be able to trade it for the cards you want. That is Pocket's "spark system" similar in many gacha games. To get an immersive or crown is out of the question unless one's a whale. 😅 Plus opening packs only to get all commons or just 1 rare cards sucks a lot. Finally, about splitting and flaring. Everyone can split cards in Snap as long as we got the credits and boosters, whereas in Pocket we need dupes of the card. Couldn't imagine doing that for crown rares or immersive arts

Definitely gonna check out pokemon pocket when it comes out globally. I've seen enough positive reviews of it from people I trust. As for snap I stopped playing before the sebastian shaw season because I was so fed up with both their unwillingness to meaningfully nerf Loki and whatever scam they were trying to pull on players that month (they don't do it every month but at the time it really felt like every few months they were trying some other get rich quick scheme to screw players). At this point I am so far removed from the game that I doubt I'd ever go back because I'm over a year behind on cards and can't play anything competitive anymore. Frequent balance changes are great but the clunkiness of the card acquisition model means if a card isn't perfectly balanced on release there's gonna be angry players if it's too good then players that can't get it are angry and players that bought it only for it to be severely nerfed are angry but if a card is too weak then the players that got it on release are angry because they wasted a key on junk and when it gets buffed players that didn't get it and now can't are angry.

Great video 👌 2 years in on snap myself , season pass and the odd bundle but this is my last one I am done spending on it . Second dinner are greedy fucks 🤬 Even the 2 year anniversary stuff has been poor considering the money snap has generated.

im personally not seeing the pokemon hype. SNAP card acquisition is terrible, but the games feel very different.. cant say the same about pokemon.

Couldn't deal with Pokemon. Took a hour of opening stupid amounts of packs to even get to see what the gameplay was like and boy, what a complete letdown. As deep as a puddle.

Rerolled an account for just about 10 mins and played the gameplay tutorial that's a lie lol

I can't stand getting that "free and fair" commercial. It just annoys me on how much it does not represent the current state of the game

We are calling this unbalanced mess of no animation a 6/10??? Ugh I dont like snap for so many reason but i would chose that over everything this pokemon game is. They had everything ready just copy paste from irl and put it into the game ans yet it looks so bad. UI is baffling, half the time i dont know how to find what and where i can look for what i miss and what i have. The hype over this game cuz its a pokemon game but the game is beyond bad. Snap is far from a good game with those bad and greedy devs but its 5x better than pokemon

I would hope Marvel Snap would be bettet Pocket atm just because Pokemon isn't even out yet and Snap has a 2 year! 🤣 That said....crazy Snap still doesn't have boards to get and Pocket is starting with them.
@RickReasonnzАй бұрын
The board situation is so laughable. Most every CCG has fancy boards. It's just a background, how hard could it be to implement?

wouldnt event play snap or pocket if Legends of Runterra still had full support =( RIP LOR

I feel the same about Gwent

I hope Pokemon TCG overtakes Marvel Snap. Maybe they'll start to give us better gold bundles and stop giving 1k tokens for dupes. Also, the lower rarity stuff should be higher in number. But the number of series 5s are like 3 times that of series 4, which is absurd. It just goes to show you that behind their fake smiles they are just a bunch of insanely greedy people. Your money and time is all they want. Also, getting the titles and avaters even before you complete series 3 is so stupid. At least let people complete series 3 collection. They are so sneakily greedy.

If the actual game was worth playing, Pokemon Pocket would be good competition. As is, it's UnoTCG. Zero skill, nothing interesting to talk about. Play cards you draw until you win 😴

You unlocked the entire card base in Pokémon in 3 days? That is a massive L for me.
@RickReasonnzАй бұрын
Yeah. I want CCGs to have good acquisition, but if you can get em all easily, then it really does take some shine away from it.
@PoroMancerАй бұрын
Pokemon feels way worse to me, yeah Snap is far from perfect, but opening pack after pack of the same crap in Pokemon is way more frustrating to me, and the biggest issue is that there is no real incentive to play in Pokemon. It feels like they really just wanted to emphasize the collecting aspect in Pocket, time will tell.....
@jeffsenecal4168Ай бұрын
Pokémon cant gatekeep the cards from toy.. its a new game.. they need to be able to let you get the cards to play.. Soo.. look how much Pokémon has made... there the most expensive cards you can get.. soo how that look for the future of monetization. Why is it ok for Poket to be given a brake cause its soo new, but no brake for Snap for being old.

Snap has gotten worse overtime. The state of the game is stale. I am excited to try something new I dont expect this review to be accurate as i have to play the game myself and compare in my shoes
