I wish MCU did more fights like these. T'Challa was outmatched in strength and stature; he had no chance in a conventional fight, so he went for the ground grappling moves which equalized their height and removed M'baku's strength advantage. This display of tactics should also translate to superpowered beings instead of just making their fights chaotic slugfests.

I don't think T'Challa was "outmatched" in strength per say. He was able to crack the very same mask that had been assaulting him seconds prior. Withstood a blow to the chest with a spear, followed by stopping a second spear assault mid motion powered by brute strength...I think it was more of fighting style choices and how said power/strength was utilized

@@thednation927 no, I'm pretty certain M'Baku was stronger than T'Challa. He threw his body like a ragdoll while T'Challa struggled with his knock-down retaliations. Also, any athletic man can crack a wooden mask with a well-placed elbow, it's pretty easy. Everything else you mentioned was just plot armor or convenience. No seasoned warrior is going to let his opponent recite a sentence after stabbing him.

Also depends on how power/strength/energy is focused or used. Brute strength, going all out from the beginning vs more finesse and energy conservation…multiple factors

@@thednation927 umm, size and weight typically means more strength. Look at weightlifting and combat sports. Bigger athletes have the edge in those sports, assuming they have the same training, proportional nutrition, and tenure as their shorter and smaller counterparts. If not, then it's skill that will triumph, which is distinctly different from strength.

T Challa wears mask like M Baku for this fight but not for fight with N Jadaka in later all because he was an outsider and did not know much of the traditions so T Challa also did the same. This just goes to show T Challa fights only when absolutely necessary and also does not completely follow traditions for someone who does not know them.

M'Baku's weapon in this scene is a two-handed knobkerrie, a cudgel/club usually made from a tree root that is a traditional weapon in certain parts of Africa and still sees some use today as a ceremonial item or improvised walking stick. M'Baku's knobkerrie is also infused with vibranium thanks to the meteorite, so it is as strong as steel. The knobkerrie itself was usually used in hunting but was also an effective and very nasty weapon in combat with humans.
