Jack Kirby's mind was an endless fountain of landmark stories, ideas and concepts. He practically did this comic book in his sleep. And someone found it good enough to bring to mass market. He's also responsible for The High Evolutionary, upcoming in Marvel movies.

I wanted all those characters to all one day be owned by the same company for example Warner Bros., NBC Universal. But the Justice League and Spiderman would juste simply always overshadow the les known characters. For example if TMNT . Smaller publishers like that would be part of say Marvel DC then we would start to not see them much anymore kind of what happened to Billy Batson= Shazam Captain Marvel

My first comic which I collected. Remember reading issue 9 and telling my dad I wanted to collect it (I was 9 at the time). He helped me get the back issues. I have the entire original run (I sold or gave away most of my other comics). There is a beautiful hard bound omnibus edition of Kirby's run (1-40) available from DC. Fueled my love for Jack Kirby. Buddy Blank was a later retcon. The grandfather's relationship to Omac wasn't in the original run. In an alternative timeline Kamandi is Tommy Tomorrow (another later retcon). Folks considered the comic somewhat derivative of Planet of the Apes, but Kirby took Kamandi to amazing places - very innovative for the time. And you have Kirby's art especially the two page splashes that he perfected.
@jamesclukey74882 жыл бұрын
The Planet of the Apes movie definitely had a huge influence on this comic, but Jack Kirby had been frustrated with DC for cancelling all his Fourth World books and this new title showed how much he still had to offer. I always loved these books and Mike Royer's inks were great over Kirby's pencils. Sadly this book was cancelled too, and Jack followed it up with The Demon ! Another title he created out of thin air. Suprisingly DC still tries to get mileage out of both creations.

Got to agree. The folks at Pixar would love this property, but I think live action, like the new Planet of the Apes movies, is the way to go. The Tigers and their Roman Empire influence would be lots of fun just on it's own. Groo would be a great CGI cartoon style character though. Funny that they have not milked that yet.
