Yay. Marvin. He was truly a tortured and divided soul. So sad that he was able to bring joy and happiness to others but couldn't find that for himself. He's finally at peace and for that I'm glad. His legacy lives on through his incredible music.

His father destroyed him and then shot Him. A father.s love, especially in the early years,is totally essential for the child to grow up emotionally healthy. It still makes me angry. The way those church people are so hypocritical and judgemental,as bent as so many of them are. He was a genius.But he went through too much pain ,in childhood and as an adult. The scars never healed.

My mother and father were very abusive. I didn't get hooked on drugs. Yes, I dabbled but after I turned to Jesus, the healing began. My mom worked at Motown. She knew Marvin. I met Tammi Terrell. Fame can drive you nuts. It's very stressful. The people at Motown.. let's just say it was quite incestuous. Everyone sleeping with everyone. Chile.....

So terrible when parents don't protect their kids from the other parent. And just sending your child away to get married. It's nuts.
@coryd2668
@coryd2668 6 ай бұрын
Exact scenario for my mom! My mom was 14 when she married my dad in 1957! She came from 13 siblings! So my grandmother felt like it was okay to send my mother off like that! One less mouth to feed and in the hands of someone who would hopefully take care of her! Trust me, my mom’s troubles were just the beginning from there on out! Four children later and all before she was 20! Life had a lot of rotten moments for all of us kids and mother for many years! But we tried to make good memories in between! That was our lives in the 60-70’s!!
@Iflie
@Iflie 6 ай бұрын
@@coryd2668 Yeah there's a reason early marriage all over the world is associated with poverty and abuse. Plus kids bodies are not ready to have babies, that same energy that you are meant to grow your own body goes to making the baby. You really shouldn't start having babies until after 20 at least. Imagine a husband buying his wife new shoes because she grew out of them! And conservatives in the U.S still think marriage solves all issues, like the intimate partner of a woman is not the most dangerous person to her officially. Women should get an education and be independent from a man financially before having kids, so she can protect them. Though dads should also protect their kids from the mother of course if she's the bad one.

I'm a 59 year old white woman and totally agree with you that "What's Goin On" is one of the best albums ever!! What he had to say then still rings true. I sometimes listen to it as I go to sleep. He was so talented. There's a video here on You Tube where he is singing live in 1972. He sings "What's Going On?" and "What's Happening Brother?" Its AMAZING! You can see the audience just quietly listening and he sings while playing the piano with no notes. It's mesmerizing. I watch it often.

I was a huge fan of Marvin Gaye. When I found out that he died I was pregnant with my first born and went into labor. It was shockingly tragic to hear such awful news. Especially growing up listening to his music and watching his music soar to the top of the charts. The death of Motown great artists such as Tammi Terrell and Florence Ballard. The 1960's and 1970's was such changing times for black Americans.

Whew! 😅 a lot and I mean A LOT of trauma in that family. Marvin Gaye’s soul was yearning for both love and peace. To be killed by your own father…sheesh! That’s a very hard pill to swallow because his father knew after that incident that nobody was going to deal with him afterwards and plus he walked away free. Although that maybe the case he wasn’t free from having to relive that moment mentally.

This was devastatingly sad- i remember when he was killed we were sitting down at the dinner table watching the evening news when his death was announced - my father was in shock over it - he could not wrap his head around a father murdering his own child

My goodness how you speak on trauma with no judgement speaks volumes, the older I get the more understanding I am becoming. It’s truly disheartening, I absolutely love Marvin so handsome & such a musical genius I just hope that his soul is free from all the pain He has truly left a mark here on this earth many many years later

Yes, I knew about Marvin dating and having a child by teenaged Jan Hunter. I guess I never fully reconciled that. I was born in 1971. As a small child, I remember seeing Marvin perform on Soul Train singing Distant Lover. I fell head over heels in love with this man and every since, have been relentless in finding out everything about him, good or bad. And still, I love his music and love him ......And I always will. I just learned that sometimes idols have clay feet

Damn I didn't know that he passed that way. This is truly sad. I've always loved his music. I didn't know he went through so much as a kid. I get why he turned to drugs as a way to cope with his trauma. But I wish that he could have gotten free from that.

Growing up it was very rare that we spoke of Marvin Gaye. Marvin's death was the equivalent to Elvis dying in my home. They really took that personally. But his music was played all of the time. I keep saying his biopic needs to be made on him because Jesse L. Martin would be perfect for that role imho. Great Video! ❤❤❤❤
