Marvin Gaye's 1st TV interview after returning from self-imposed exile in Germany. He talks about his new single, Sexual Healing, about money & tax problems that caused him to leave the United States, and about believing Motown ripped him off on royalties owed. This was done for the Today Show in 1982.

Ever since I was a kid,I was soooo bow down in love with this man,and the feeling is still the same today! If he was still alive,I would send red roses to his door every day, just to let him know how much he's loved.

Thanks for posting this. I don’t care where Marvin’s head was. Whatever personal demons he had was his business. The main thing is when it came to his music, he always delivered. His music is heard today in movies, TV, commercials etc. That alone shows that real genuine talent is timeless.

Marvin appeared weary and tired at this point. He looked very sad, lonely, and much older than the mid 40s he actually was. He was like an idol to me growing up, and I still can't get enough of his songs and interviews decades later! 😥

From what I read, he owed IRS $9Million at the time of his death. Being broke and super famous tend to not go well together, not to mention divorces. Guy was seriously depressed.

Thanks for sharing Mr. Matson. Ah, Marvin and his metaphors and caginess though he did answer your questions in the affirmative. Marvin was always quite stylish too. It's a crying shame how his last great triumph led him down the road to his ruin. Many people who knew him felt he should've stayed in Belgium.

Marvin’s father was a cross dresser. Three of his uncles were homosexuals. Marvin also experimented with cross dressing.

When you marry the boss of Motown's sister and have a messy divorce you get problems, He had the last laugh on Motown coming back with a number one hit "Sexual Healing" and winning his first ever Grammy also in 1983, things were looking good until his dad murdered him the following year, it's probably more likely in hindsight to say he had the 2nd last laugh on Motown......His Album "What's Going On" is right up there alongside Pet Sounds and Sgt Pepper as the greatest album of all time.
