Mav. I cannot recommend the "afterburner" diesel heater controller from Ray Jones in Australia highly enough. I've purchased 3 of them so far. Two for heaters and a third as a spare just in case he stops selling them. The additional level of control is phenomenal. the biggest selling point is the ability for it to automatically adjust the fuel pump rate to meet demand instead of needing to manually adjust it or use the heater in the default high-low mode which overheats small spaces.
@peacewarrior95002 жыл бұрын
u can control the fuel pump pulse rate using the original controller, it just takes a bit more programming, and the benefit doesn’t really outweigh the haggle. Only advantage i see with afterburner is as IoT device to control ur heater from anywhere thru internet, which is an overkill for a camper!
@MastaSquidge2 жыл бұрын
@@peacewarrior9500 no. You can set a fixed pump rate that stays where you put it. If the temperature drops at night the output of the heater stays the same and the temperature inside drops until you wake up and increase the pump speed. The afterburner will run it up and down as needed to maintain a stable temperature automatically. The Chinese controllers cannot do this.
@MapleMarmite2 жыл бұрын
I take it I’m right in thinking you can’t convert a non remote control heater to be remote and then use one of the controllers you recommended? Or is there a wired version available? I didn’t prioritize a remote version when I got mine as the wired heater control is always within reach in my set up. Edit; Just searched it and got the answer. Looks like it will will as I have one of the compatible controllers on it already. I think it might be more complicated than my limited tech abilities can cope with, though.
@MastaSquidge2 жыл бұрын
@@MapleMarmite it can't be done like that, no. It's really simple to set up. The manual makes it seem far worse than it is. 95% of what's in the manual you'll never need. There's also a good Facebook group full of info to help with anything you need. And it only works with certain main boards in the heaters so if you're interested you'll need to check the manual for compatibility before buying one. Ideally before even buying the heater.
@peacewarrior95002 жыл бұрын
@@MastaSquidge You’re right, the pulse rate can be changed to a fixed value, in order to conserve fuel, not necessarily fine-tune the thermostat. But either way, i still think the afterburner is an overkill for a camper!

Also, yes I am def interested if you wouldnt mind making a video about your battery setup, im contemplating doing something similar with my F150, I dont need power for heat but maybe a portable A/C or a nice fan because I live in the south where its more tropical than anything else. As someone from the south (north of Atlanta, Ga) the sight of snowfall in mid-April is mind boggling to me. Down here we get snow once a year if we’re lucky, not even every year, and if we’re lucky it’s maybe 2-3 inches. And people forget how to drive from such minor snowfall down here in the south. And it makes the entire state pretty much shut down like an apocalypse. *EDIT* : Mav, I LOVE the overhauled, rebuilt camper setup! That is amazing and infinite times better than what you had before. I’ve wanted to build a setup just like this in the back of my tundra 6.5ft bed for months now and seeing this setup is making me get ready to pull the trigger finally and build my setup!!! Love the heater thats out of the way. I am going to try and find a way to have a cubby similar to that for a heater, that I can also utilize as a space to place some sort of A/c or cooler vent for the hot summer months too and utilize a space to be able to place a heater for winter, and remove it and place a small A/C for summer months!!! I love how you improvised!! Casseroles are so good and easy!! My personal favorite also uses cream of mushroom but I use cream of chicken… 1/2 can on bottom, chicken breast chunks, Swiss cheese slices, other 1/2 can, broccoli then box stuffing on top! Even better the 2nd day!!!

Wow, very innovative in diy truck camping. Find a spot, pull over, & hop 2 the back, & ready 2 cook & sleep. Few modern appliances with old fashion camping, & voila, outdoor adventure. Thx 4 sharing on Utube.

Love the vids.... I'll be a broken record.... Don't speed it ain't worth it you'll get there just fine going the speed limit or just a couple miles over lol... If you have 100 miles to travel going 10 miles over the limit only saves you a couple minutes by the end! Keep that money in your pocket and don't risk the license. Cool the officer was a viewer though
@jarretrausch2 жыл бұрын
It’s definitely more than a couple minutes, but yes I agree. The change between 60mph to 70mph for 100 miles is 100 mins down to 85.7 mins.

I think he means, like how was the first night in it? Did the charger under his head keep him up? Was he warm throughout the night? That kinda stuff. I feel that way. He spent 15 minutes leading up to the first night in the truck, and then it was like, “I’m up. Talk to ya all later. Bye” it was pretty quick ending.

Slow down Mav!! We can wait lol. Trust me, lost mine during rough times financially and got a "no insurance" fine...was outrageous and unaffordable to me and haven't been able drive since(5years) :/ Cost of being poor and "not" a KZbinr, never panned well for me...that luck only last so long my friend :) Be safe and keep up the amazing videos, new setup helps for sure...just heed that thought of not doing "Truck Camping" videos if you do get another one and what that could potentially do for yourself and the channel. Just my friendly reminder so that you can always KEEP TRUCKIN!!! And stay off your phone while driving too lol, I laugh at the amount of people put up video of themselves breaking those laws lol. Cheers, love from Ontario Canada fam

As a native Minnesota guy, I appreciate that you got it right and said “hotdish”, cuz I live in Wisconsin now where these heathens say “casserole”. The cream of mushroom soup goes over the meat so the tots stay crispy. 😉 Also, I appreciate that you’ve stared cutting an onion the proper way.

Hey Mav and co, how important is having windows in your truck camping setup? I have a truck cap off of a worktruck (solid aluminum, no windows/vents) that I've been thinking of using but I'm not sure if I should sell it or just give it a go. Any thoughts?
@asspizza73O2 жыл бұрын
Im mavs cousin he said sell it
@alexspillowfort8882 жыл бұрын
I’ve never done truck camping before so I might not be helpful but I think it would be best to sell it and go for one with vents or windows. In a lot of the videos Mav has said he leaves a window cracked for ventilation to avoid carbon monoxide poisoning so it would probably be best to try to get something you can easily crack a window in. I hope this was slightly helpful but once again I’m most definitely not an expert in these things. Stay safe :)

Maybe just don't speed?
@StevenRides3 ай бұрын
People say this but fail to understand todays speed limits are low for the safety standard we are at. Not saying everyone has to speed, go at the pace you're comfortable with, but the limits can be raised in this day and age.
@GTrainRx73 ай бұрын
@@StevenRides Says the person looking for a justification to speed. Leave at the appropriate time, don't be a hero and get there without killing someone. Science literally says that speeding is the cause of accidents. But hey, science is for noobs, am-i-right???? YOU can speed and be ok, right?
