I hate it when anyone gets cancer but children, why?? I just spent the last 10 months fighting triple negative breast cancer. It was hands down the worst. I fear for my children because mine was genetic. I really hope this young lady stays in remission for forever.

I watched all of Saul pancakes videos, but seldom ever hear about how these people are doing today. I think the most recent post here was three years ago, does anybody know if she is OK and cancer free? Or, did the unthinkable happen? Either way, may God be with her, her family and all who love her. I don’t mean to sound disrespectful, but I know exactly how it feels to be told you have cancer and that you’re probably going to die. But I did it differently, I was sick most of my childhood with a lot of vomiting, nausea, weight loss and weight gain, and rectal bleeding, but I was too terrified to tell anyone about it, until I turn 20, when I finally realize that this is not going away, and after six months of searching for a doctor that would actually believe me, I was diagnosed with Crohn’s disease. Roughly 6 months after that, during one of my almost constant hospital stays, as oral medication never works on me, so I had to go in the hospital to receive intravenous therapy, they were doing x-rays of my abdomen every three hours because it was so distended from all the swelling, and then it just suddenly burst. I barely had enough time to call my family, tell them that I was dying and was being rushed to the OR. By the time I got there I was already dead, for two minutes to be exact. Thankfully they were able to resuscitate me, and proceed to go on with a 10 1/2 hour operation to remove what was left of my shattered large intestine, and to clean out my abdominal cavity of all the toxins that were released after the bowel perforated. Now here is the part I want everyone to listen to. There’s a common theme I find in people and those that love them, who are diagnosed with an in curable and/or terminal illness, they completely lose all their faith in God, many even blaming him, mostly out of anger and frustration. At that point in my life I didn’t know God as I was never raised in a religious household, church was a place to go to for weddings and funerals, and the occasional Christmas, where am I going with this? I’ll make it simple, as soon as they cut me open they found two small tumours about the size of a Pea, growing on the outside of my large intestine, tumours they didn’t know were there, and would never have discovered them until it was too late. When the pathology came back, it indicated that those tumours were malignant, and were actually the most aggressive and deadly form of intestinal cancer, so ironically, I literally had to die, to save my life. I always joke that it was gods way of saying, look here!, And well not everyone appreciates my darker sense of humor, you have to develop that humour if you ever hope to survive. To make an incredibly long story short, since that first operation when I was 21, I’m now 50, and have had a total of 37 surgeries since then, which included eight different intestinal diversions. The cancer, which I survived the first time, came back two more times, in total, all three times I was given a 5%, 10%, and a 2% chance of survival respectively, yet I’m still here, and dare I say going strong, minus 95% of my entire gastrointestinal tract. For me, that first incident was what got me to start questioning was it fate, or did I have a guardian angel sent from God to protect me. In total I have almost died five more times, each time a total mystery as to how I survived, especially the times when my kidneys completely failed and would not come back, but literally and magically started working again as soon as the surgeons were finished the operation. I currently have 14 specialists not including my GPA, and not one of them can explain how or why I’m still alive, when all the odds state I should’ve died several times over, to me, that is God. Growing up as a gay teenager, I rejected religion because all I ever heard was how much God hated gay people, and how the Bible condemned us to hell, which was why I was never very religious when I was younger. But the way I figure it, the closer I got to meeting him face-to-face the better I wanted to get to know him first! LOL! I mean that as a joke, but it also as my reality. It’s a side effect of the treatments for the Crohn’s disease and the cancer, I developed 11 other chronic illnesses, including two mental health problems of crippling and severe anxiety and depression. There are still days I fight so hard inside just to give myself a reason to keep fighting, because it’s very difficult living with almost no intestine. Every day poses a new challenge, and every day I face constant pain. But I made a promise to God and to my family that I would never give up on them as long as they don’t give up on me, and now that my parents are both in their mid 80s, they require a lot of help, and I am their sole care provider. It’s heartbreaking to Bear witness to watching the two people you love more than anybody else on this earth fall apart in front of your very eyes, but I think God every day of my life for keeping me alive, and keeping them alive so I can take care of them until their final day or until my final day, which ever comes first. It’s kind of a sick family joke, we are actually taking bets who is going to die first, and right now, dad‘s winning, but I come in a close second, mom will outlive everybody! She comes from a Nova Scotia, small town I Nova Scotia where there’s not much to do at night, in other words, she has 11 brothers and sisters, seven of whom are still alive, and including her great aunt and uncle who are both in their hundreds, have been married over 85 years, live alone, and are fully independent. That I have to remember my grandmother, my mother‘s mom, who lived to the age of 99 years old, and passed away peacefully in her sleep, with all of her faculties fully intact right up until the very end, so there’s a lot of longevity on that side of the family, this is the part of being adopted that totally sucks! Both my parents have six full heads of hair that still are mostly brown, they don’t Colour their hair, they don’t have to, I lost all my hair when I was 21 after the chemo therapy, and despite my lying doctor, who assured me it will grow back, it never did! I know that in the big picture that doesn’t mean anything, but that’s easy for you to say, try losing on your hair when you’re 21 years old! Anyways, I’m sorry for going so far off topic, I just wanted you to know how and why I completely understand what you’re going through or have gone through. If you get the chance please please send us an update or send me a private message and let me know, and regardless of the outcome, may God bless you all as he keeps you and all of us in his heart and under his wings, all my love from Toronto❤️❤️❤️❤️

@@elainewarren1294 thanks so much Elaine, i’m still here, encountering a few little hiccoughs along the way, but the main part is I’m still fighting, and I won’t stop ever. Unfortunately this year, in fact just last month after a wicked kidney stone attack (i’ve been getting them for years, they are very common in G.I. patients, as we are given a lot of prednisone, which in turn causes bone loss, forcing us to take a lot of calcium, resulting in some pretty nasty kidney stones), after many tests it was determined that because I have almost no intestine left, my body can’t absorb enough fluid and nutrients to keep my internal organs alive, and I went into complete renal failure, nearly dying yet again. However, they caught it before it was too late, and I know receive intravenous therapy every day of my life in the comfort of my own home, and because I’ve been around medical equipment for so long I know how to work the IV pump, I don’t need the nurse to come every day, and just give myself my daily three hour infusion of intervenous fluids and nutrients to ensure my continued survival, to make sure that my internal organs, especially my kidneys, stay healthy and alive, and functioning properly. I don’t know what the future holds healthwise, the doctors don’t know either because my case is so rare they said I represent literally 0.01% of the entire population of G.I. patients. Basically we are learning as we go, but the main thing is I’m still here, still fighting, and despite those days I want to give up, I’ve become so stubborn, after going through so much I’ll be damned if I allow something as simple as dehydration to finish me off. Even though I have excepted my fate, and I am honestly OK with dying, it doesn’t scare me anymore, it doesn’t mean I want to die. If anything because I’ve missed so much of my life to being sick, I have a lot of lost time to catch up on, and that is exactly what I plan to do. I recently started writing a book, I had written one before but because the parameters of my health changed so quickly, I had to scrap it and start all over, but all I want to do is convey my experiences to everyone who will listen, not for attention, pity, or sympathy, but with the deepest desire to help other people going through what I had to go through, to show them that no matter how bad it gets, it does get better, and life truly does go on, if I can make a difference in at least just one person‘s life, then it was all worth it! Again, thanks so much for your kind words, it’s very much appreciated, and I’m sending you lots of hugs in return! xo

I also was diagnosed w Hodgkin's Lymphoma in 2016. However, I was allergic to the ABVD chemo and treatment had to be stopped. But I got something better. I got a miracle and by the grace of God, scans showed all was gone! Healed! And I'm so happy for this child. 💗💗💗
