My favorite! I lived the dance joints down in south central Louisiana. No way you can be still to cajun music!

Twist and Shout was a club in Bethesda,MD ( right next door to my office at the time! ). It was a dingy basement room, linoleum floor, stained ceiling tiles, etc. in an office building that packed them in with roots rock and classic country acts mostly. Went their many times, ALWAYS a party!

3:17 Here in Louisiana we call that a washboard very common in Zydeco music. I’m not from the southern part of Louisiana I’m from the northern part ,but I know good music when I hear it. Just a little information on it in case anyone is interested.

She had a string of albums late 80s through mid-90s that were excellent, winning several Grammys. A mixture of country, folk, and pop. Great lyrics. We even saw her with the Kansas City Symphony a few years ago, doing some of her hits plus some old Big Band standards.

MCC is an EXTREMELY underappreciated artist from the 90’s that the country world doesn’t give enough credit too!!

The place you're asking about is Acadiana Louisiana, it's several parishes in Southeast Louisiana, she is singing about the Cajun culture, a twist and shout is a party, better known as fais do-do. They party at the drop of a hat down there. For everything.

We call that a washboard in Louisiana. It is used in Cajun and Zydeco music. Common household items were used to make music. We also play spoons. It's actually two spoons that we clap together.

It is a shame that the reviewers choose these early songs - most choose exactly them same track, why I don’t know - when she is more admired for her later tracks like Transcendental Reunion. This Twist And Shout track, in comparison to her later ones, is rather shallow - fun, but shallow. Now, she sings her more “serious” songs which are truly beautiful as she did on her sessions on the Highland Sessions for the BBC some years ago. Try Transcendental Reunion, Why Shouldn’t We, or On And On It Goes with their beautiful lyrics. The album versions are best.
