Happy Sunday everyone, welcome back to Songs From Home, this is episode 18: John Doe No. 24
I wrote this song after reading a deeply moving obituary about this person who at the end of his life was the 24th unidentified person in the Illinois state mental system. In my imaginings, perhaps he was originally from New Orleans, and that his sensory dreams of the place always stayed with him. If you would like to read the original obituary that inspired this song, go here: nyti.ms/365H9uZ
And they all shook their heads in pity
For a world so silent and dark
Well, there's no doubt that life's a mystery
But so too is the human heart
How to keep our fallible hearts open, during this incredibly hard time for everyone is the ultimate test of love and kindness.
Let the examples that are all around us help us as we go and let us never stop being grateful for them.
Until the next time, stay well, stay strong, and stay mighty!
