I'm sure I can speak for us all here, but what do we do when the pandemic subsides, which we all want, but Mary stops doing this? She has clearly carved and kept this home performance and I feel truly has made it her own. She's here with us EVERY week! Mary, for what it's worth, I know your career is important and waiting for your return, but please, you have touched so many with your home videos...please don't stop. We all love and admire you. Peace ✌ ❤

Yesterday, while puttering in the yard I found an acorn at the base of a tree. Leaning against the trunk and under a canopy of shade I studied the complex simplicity and thought of you. I have always liked this quote, but now it speaks your name. “ You never quite know what you do in life that leaves a seed behind that grows into an oak.” (Michael Portillo). Well done my friend....with Songs from Home and being yourself, you are a MIGHTY OAK . Looking forward to sharing some time with you ... Angus and maybe White Kitty.

The summer of 1968. I was 12. The morning of June 7 I walked into the kitchen and my father was weeping. The only other time I ever saw him cry was the day his mother died. Bobby Kennedy had been murdered, he told me. The world had changed that day. Little did we know what the rest of summer would bring. I thank you for the memories, Mary. I thank you for reminding us how much we still need to do. Your songs are needed right now, in so many ways. Sorry for the long post but your song touched something deep inside - as so many of yours seem to do. I'm still riding bikes, by the way. The stones still fly up. 😀

I was 8 years old and remember that day really well; I cried for hours. RFK's campaign was the first I worked it - one of very many that would follow. My mother had taken me twice to see him. The second time was at the Ambassador Hotel on the Saturday before the Tuesday he was killed. We got there really early so we could stand in front and be able to meet him. But my mother had had her large toenail removed and wanted to sit down further back, so I joined her rather than staying with her friends. After he spoke, we tried to find him, following the way he had exited. We went to the kitchen where he was to be later murdered.

Mary ,Beautiful Mary, in 1966 at public school before eating lunch a teacher stood at the head of each table and as we bowed out heads, recited"God is Great, God is Good,Let us thank him for this food.By 1968 no more prayer at school before our meal. 1965 Sound of Music was Picture of the Year,In 1969 Picture of the Year was Midnight Cowboy.Perhaps for those of us who lived through such times,we cherish your healing balm.Im not sure we are better for the loss of our innocence, but your songs represent our ability to regain what we lost.Eternally grateful in Ohio.

MCC - I’ve been watching for 25 episodes now (catching up after the first 6 had already been downloaded) and had always wanted to say thank you. So here is my simply offering of thanks and in doing so share with you what your Songs From Home have meant. I am a Critical Care RN, yes the last weeks have been as you can imagine long, exhausting, frightening, sad and fulfilling. Your willingness to open your home and your heart and play has given me personally pause, pause to remember what I loved about your music but so much more. Often during my day, especially when I was tired or discouraged a musical line would pop in my head, “we believe in things that give us hope, why shouldn’t we., why shouldn’t we?” Then later that night I’d surf the web for local news before I would try and fall asleep and I’d see Documentary film marker Michael Moore sing a verse of the same song on the Late Show - tears filled my eyes, love filled my heart and I remembered we are all connected and we will make it through this pandemic and you were a part of helping this health care worker do her job. So MCC, a deep heartfelt thank you!

I'd be lying if I said that this song hasn't come to mind many times in the last month or so. "The TV glowed that long, hot summer, with all the cities burning down." I've always thought the words captured what it must have been like to witness the events in 1968. But considering recent events, I think they certainly seem fitting for the here and now as well. Thank you for sharing your music with us. And thank you for the beautiful lyrics over the years. There aren't many artists whose words and music can make me think (and feel!) so deeply as to prompt self-reflection. (And words like "A thousand points of light? Or shame?" definitely fall into that category.) Stay safe and well. And stay mighty!

Mary's a great songwriter and there is so much of her catalog I love, but this song has always stood out to me. I'm pretty close in age (OK, 4 years older) and for me it captures our generation. My favorite line is "To see a train draped in mourning pass slowly through our town". You need be a certain age to remember this, but I believe it relates to RFK's funeral train. It's something I saw too, and I'll never forget it. Google it and see some of the images of the people standing near the tracks from that journey.

I stood on an overpass in Edison NJ to watch that same train. I was 17 at the time and moving rapidly away from my parents' Nixon Republicanism. There was so much to question at that age, and events in America made that even more difficult. I remember being low enough to the tracks to see the coffin through the window, and the flag draped over it. It seemed like hope was taken away in those days. Little did I know where we were headed.

Hi Mary I love this song. The Stones In The Road album is one of my favourites and funnily enough the first album of yours that I bought and so discovered your music by. House of Cards, Outside Looking In, John Doe No24, Why Walk When You Can Fly, wow, there’s some great songs on here. Hard to believe that was 25 years ago! Of course, I subsequently went back and purchased your earlier albums too, surprised at how I’d missed such a wonderful talent for so long. Every album since has always been a joy to experience. The new song sounds wonderful, so I can’t wait to hear more of the new album and your inspiration for creating it. Stay strong. Stay safe. Stay mighty 😊

This is one of my many favorites. It's one I've taken to heart since it's release. For most of my life I was discouraged from singing. Shy and quiet, I guess they were concerned I'd embarrass myself. About 6 years ago a wonderful man convinced me to try Karaoke. I knew I could do it with only your songs. My debut performance was "Down At the Twist and Shout". Once I make up my mind I just dive right in! The response was overwhelming! Then I went on to "The Bug". I get requests for those two songs every week. I love singing your songs because they inspire me-- you inspire me. I've heard the new single and can't wait for more on August 7. Mary, your Songs From Home series is heartwarming and so gracious. Thank you for inviting us in. Until next time, I'm staying well and, especially, staying mighty. God bless you. P.S. Four years ago I married that man who gave me the confidence to sing.
