Mary Tyler Moore has such a rich and interesting life story. I was so in love with her as a kid watching the Mary Tyler Moore show. I really didn't know much about her life until she died. I had no idea of all the struggles she had been through. Her alcoholic mother and cold and distant father. Her being born with issues from her mother's alcoholism. Her finding out she had type 1 diabetes. Her own struggles with alcoholism and her son dying very young as well as her siblings and parents dying as well. I consider her to be a truly inspirational person to have dealt with her success and losses in life and carried on. She is one of those people who has benefited the world by being in it and a very good actress with great range in her performances. God love you Mary.

Huge compliment... glad she told us. I never knew. Well deserved. Mary was a phenomenal actress with a wide range. Very wide. I put her up there with Bette Davis. But Mary had a very natural way of acting. Very authentic, real. Great timing. She could act at times without saying a word. Audrey Hepburn was great at that too.

I loved the show, and it was mostly because of Mary. My mother loved that she wore pants at home. A little thing by today's standards, but it ment so much back then.

She's completely right about the 1950's, 1960's women NOT wearing the house dresses and vacuuming in high heels. My mom dressed just like Mary in slacks and flats. So when I watched the Dick Vandyke show it looked very familiar to me with the dad leaving for work in a suit and tie and the mother saying at home and being a modern, with-it mid-20th century housewife. My parents were very much like Rob and Laura Petrie.

@@RobertJamesChinneryH And where did YOU live Robert?! Women in long dresses? Clearly you are from a different generation. My mom wore dresses when she went out on the town, but pants and flats at home too! 👍
@notthatyouasked66563 жыл бұрын
Some did. In the 50s, my mother rarely wore pants, and certainly wouldn't have gone out shopping in anything but a dress. She made my older sisters dress to the nines to go shopping too. This relaxed in the 60s. By 1970-ish she was in pants 99.9% of the time except for things like weddings.

Fun fact A house where US Civil War General Stonewall Jackson’s headquarters in Virginia was owned by Mary’s ancestors at one point. It’s now a museum which she visited.

One Complaint: People from Brooklyn speak proper English, I know what she means, of course. There a kind of standard English pronunciation which is equivalent to what Germans called Hoch Deutsch, but just about everywhere in the USA or in Germany, people speak with a “familiar: accent, that ranges from “Heavy” to “slight”, Plus throw in the ethnic variations.

Wel...I don't think ALL of them....but a solid percentage. Also...problems in their youth....exgerrated for the press//at the urging of press reps. makes a beter story.....makes them more likely to garner sympathy from the general public. You'll almost never hear about what miserable bastards they were (at least, at times)! lol
