Hi Hannah. Thank you for watching and commenting. I can imagine how tough it must be for you. It's quite natural to get angry and stressed but learning and practising ways to manage it may help. Also getting support from others in whatever ways possible can bring some relief. Since I don't have experience parenting siblings, I have little to share.

I came across your channel only yesterday and I am loving every video.. been binge watching.. being a millennial parent, we wish and try to change many traditional parenting methods.. it is so relieving to see our moms support and acknowledge the new ideas.. One thing I have heard that helped my attitude towards our child is, 'treat your child like you would treat your guest'.. like you mentioned, less commands more explanation and patience.. Gentle but firm. Keep up the good work both of you 👏

I’m a mother of a 7 year old boy. I am practicing positive discipline till now… but recently I noticed that my son is feeling too sad for small corrections or criticism from someone.. how can I make him emotionally strong to bravely face the difficulties of life? Expecting more videos on parenting. Thank you
@ashamathew89813 жыл бұрын
I will try to do a video on it. But I think it's ok to be sensitive. Afterall it's a quality that seems to be lacking in today's world. Only sensitive people can be empathetic towards their fellow beings. As a child, feeling sensitive or feeling any emotions is a part of healthy development. Studies say that having a positive parent or any positive adult for that matter helps the child to cope with such challenges in the long run. So positive parenting acts as a buffer against negative experiences. By listening to their woes empathetically and validating their feelings, they will feel better and will slowly learn to handle such emotions by themselves. At the same time, as parents we can also give opportunities and have conversations to increase their self confidence. We can also share similar stories that we experienced and how we dealt with them. Above all, we can be good role models in how we handle criticism.

I've 6 yr old girl n 8yr oldboy I'm a commanding parent or mother to them. How can I change my attitude towards them.... Pls reply
@ashamathew89813 жыл бұрын
@@fasilapppp2708 Hi Fasila! I think all the points in my video are more or less related to that. Also, if you replace phrases like "DO THIS", "DON'T DO THAT" etc. with "How about doing it this way?" or "Come, let's clean up the toys" in respectful tone, it will be half the job done. Instead of giving orders, we can try asking for their cooperation. While enforcing rules, what has worked for me is validating their feelings and supporting them while they have an emotional outburst, instead of blaming or ignoring or distracting. For example, when my daughter says she wants to watch more TV and cries, I tell her that I understand how bad she feels etc. but TV time is over and that I will comfort her. So she feels better. Also I give her heads up before it's time to switch off the TV. That is, I tell her "We will switch off after 5 min" or "after this song". Also, I give the remote to her to switch off. That's like giving her the power and she feels good about it. These are some everyday examples. Hope it was helpful. Thanks much for watching my video.

Hi Izza! Thank you for sharing this. Please do not blame yourself. This realization and the willingness to change itself makes you a parent no less than anyone else. It's never too late. Establishing a strong connection is the foundation and we can do it at any age, just that the earlier the better and the easier. Since kids are naturally inclined to be attached to parents, we can regain the connection even after it's lost. I'll soon do a video on it. I hope it will help you.

I can share what I do. I try to make sure that my daughter gets enough time for free play and physical activity. I also try to reduce the number of times I say no to her. I try to say yes and let her do things according to her wish whenever possible. Also, when she is angry or upset, I show empathy and validate her feelings. I tell her I know how it feels for her etc. That makes her feel better. Then I hug her and console her. Sometimes when she is very angry she doesn't like me hugging her. So I sit with her and wait until she is ready for a hug. If the child is trying to hurt herself or someone else, she has to be immediately removed from the situation before trying the above things.

Thank you Sharon. My daughter is my trainer and parenting experience is my training 🙂 It's quite normal to get angry. But thinking from the kid's perspective may help to remain calm. When I realised that it's not easy for them either, having to always seek permission, to hear 'no' many times, to live each day as decided by someone else, I was able to change my ways.

Ethu prayathilum thudangam. The earlier the better.
As a child, feeling sensitive or feeling any emotions is a part of healthy development. They will definitely face a lot of challenges and setbacks from the real world. So I don't see the need for parents to throw such challenges to them. Above all, we can be good role models in how we handle setbacks.
