I just got the crush mini in orange as my first amp - I have many neighbours and am a beginner...So bigger amps are for later. It is really fun and so good for beginners to just learn the very amp basics before moving on & up and play around a little during practice. And really affordable so you make a little guitar tech progress without ruining yourself.
@TroyNaumu8082 жыл бұрын
Get the Orange 20w cab and plug the Orange Mini into it. You get a bigger amp and still can be quiet if needed. Then get a rechargeable power bank to power the Orange Mini and up to six pedals too. By itself the Orange Mini is not that impressive but with a cab connected to it it becomes impressive as you can plug in any cab as long as it is 8 oms. it does not have a efx loop or built-in efx but thats what pedals are for and the beauty of pedals is the ability to fine tune the settings. Something real and physical to touch.

@@gameboygrill310 It's really solid. Unfortunately I have a roommate, so I haven't been able to blast it as loud as I'd like, mostly using it with headphones. However, the tuner is handy, the reverb is good, and the distortion you get with the 'dirty' setting and gain is solid. That said, it's possible I would be blown away by any decent quality amp seeing as this is my first impression of one.

For me there's the point where you go all virtual (/w headphones and an iPhone or something with no speaker) when looking to get it ultra portable. Otherwise pick your favorite 12" combo (Blues Jr for me) and roll with it. When not, then you go with your higher watt head+cab and an Orange is an excellent choice.

Had to make this very choice in November. I was, like you, aiming toward the 20 but in the end decided that the 35 had the sound required but also the punch should I be playing along side a drum kit. They are all very useable in their own right but I didn't really need the portability. One thing that was said over and over is the ability of this to play really nice tones at lower volumes. It didn't disappoint :)

How do you like the Crush 12? Is the sound full enough (i.e. not too small or tinny?)
@mystichamster59005 жыл бұрын
We all should take in account that transistor amps have pretty good clean sound usually, but you need at least a 10 inch speaker. Less than that sound too trebly. Also the drive in any of those is bad. But nothing that a good overdrive pedal can't solve. However, I may take the mini, with a good pair of headphones. And the fact that it moves a 4x12 is worthy. Those things can sound awesome.
@john564holloway5 жыл бұрын
MysTic...I ran my Crush Mini into my Marshall 4x12 1960B cabinet & the sound was much better than the Mini by itself, which I had expected, anyway. Even though it sounds similar to all other mini amps, the fact that it has a built-in tuner & compatible with a 4x12 cabinet is worth the $69. Go test it out before you buy. I believe you'll walk out of the store with it.

I have the 20rt. Love it. I am doing the music in a theatre piece and the company bought a normal crush 20 for me. I have been looking for a good small amp for my appartment since my main amp is a Sho-Bud single channel with a 15 inch JBL speaker. Not too practical. I came across the 20rt on marketplace for 150 euro. I asked the seller if he would reserve it for me while I sold a SM57 and a sm58. He replied that he was selling the amp to buy those microphones. So we just did a one on one trade. Since I got the mics for 105 euro it was a good deal. I do have it in black. The reverb could be a bit more reverby but it's fine I can practice the theatre stuff at home and sound exactly like I do on the stage with all the weird pedals they want me to use. It takes pedals very well. The clean sound is lovely the dirty is a bit too dirty for my liking but I have overdrive pedals. And when I really need to create mayhem the dirty channel is excellent.

Ello' Mary... My choice was the Crush 12. It is the smallest, low volume, good sounding nighttime amp. Has great grit on it's own and works great with a "RAT" (Dirt) pedal and a "CARBON COPY" (Delay) pedal in front. Records on a cell phone like a champ for late night sessions while not waking up the house. The only thing it's not very good at is working with a small electric jam session, it does not push enough air in the room. I must say the 20RT has it ALL in a very nice package and fairly light weight. It would be my second choice. Great Video, thanks for posting. PSR

Most of those who play guitar don't have much money and that was my case for many years so my advice would be to all those young (or not so young) who start playing guitar to start modeling on computer You will always have a lot of snobs to tell you that you have to buy a tube amp etc. but the reality is that computer simulators work very well nowadays, it's not like when I started playing guitar more than 10 years ago I take for example Bias FX from Positiv Grid that I use regularly For the equivalent of 200 $ (depending on the software you take it varies) you have access to all pedals you may need and all amps including the same guitar simulator which allows you to play even with a cheap guitar It's even suitable for beginners because even if you don't know how to use this kind of software most of them offer ready-made presets according to the music you are interested in playing And don't listen to the snobes in music, the important thing is that your audience connects to what you do and that you have fun, the rest is irrelevant

My Orange Crush 30r combo has warm tones and an actual spring reverb that sounds lush. Not an amp for high gain shredding. But I'd imagine most people watching this channel would love it. Its solid state but for me that makes it better. It's light and bullet proof. It's about 25 years old... the 35rt is probably the equivalent model in their product range now. Though they may have ditched the springs for a digital reverb circuit these days, I'm sure it sounds just as ace and with some modern day luxuries like the tuner you can't go wrong. Summary, plenty loud enough for home use and even small gigs. Warm and luscious tones.

Ordered an 20RT last week. Should be here in another 1 to 2 weeks. Since Mary says it's good - I don't feel I could go wrong for the price.

Hi Mary! I chose the Orange Crush Mini, and the PPC108 speaker for the living room setup for a louder and wider sound, also I can take the mini to the bedroom for late night practice with head phones.

Should have tried the Micro Terror too, it's great for practice at home but is more versatile as it can power a 4x12 cab. With the right speaker, it can be used for small gigs. The new Terror Stamp looks great too, they claim it's the Micro Dark in a pedal size but it sounds better than the Micro Dark in my opinion.

Nice review! Most of the amps mentioned in the comments are at least twice the cost of the similar Orange amp... I think all of them except the Fender Champion 20. Thanks Mary!

Thanks Mary ! I just bought my first Orange AMP and it is fantastic. I bought one suited for acoustic electric guitars and it is easy to use and sounds great !

I've got a Crush Mini, and I gotta say ... it's fine for practice, but definitely wouldn't want to use it for anything else. Maybe someone else has had better luck with external speakers, but even with everything cranked I can't get it any louder than a whisper.

You made them all sound amazing on top of the awesome Orange class! I have the original mini crush and love it. Have the Marshall equivalent of your 20 i think too but i like something i can put on my bed or take outside easily without a mains cable so the mini is perfect and i like using headphones. Your 20RT is appealing, love the features.

A few months ago I was looking for roughly the same thing, the 20RT and 35RT were high on my list and I came to the same conclusion you did. If I was going to be moving it around and using it for just casual play then the 20RT made a lot of sense. If I was looking for a more portable but full duty setup the 35RT made more sense. I really liked the 20 for quieter playing though, you could get a nice Orange crunch out of it without going up too loud.

Red Stripe Peavey Envoy 110, greatest solid state practice amp ever. Super lush blues tones. 2 clean channels and 3 dirt channels.

I love my Orange amp, but I didn't know they had tiny ones too! Definitely going to purchase, thanks for the video! 🌿

I only use the Orange Crush Mini ($69 Amazon) into a Orange 20 watt non-powered cab ($99 Amazon) .

I wish I'd had one of those amps at school for guitar lessons instead of lugging my Marshall 8020 around to use at 10% of its maximum loudness in the small classroom. My CR6 still does 100dB across the room which would drown out all the acoustic players, so not much point in a bigger amp for lessons. I bet it would make some noise if I attached the speaker wires to 12" speakers.

i have a 40 watt EXH dirt road special, ( solid state ) that i made a custom baffle for 2 x 8 Weber 8A150 , 50 watt, 4 ohms in series for 8, ( it's about 3db louder than stock ) EHX designed the stock 12' speaker to break up early, but thermally handle all 40 watts, ( that's the Stock overdrive sound ) but i needed a louder clean, and i have it now.....my Tech 21 Mop Top Liverpool compresses like a tube amp, and i can nearly hit 120 db; ( with my speakers breaking up just right )

dmperc, Do you know what an effects loop is for? You put most pedals in front of the amp. You want most of them before the pre-amp. The loop is for your time-based pedals like reverb, delay, vibrato, etc.

I picked up one of those Blackstar amPlug2 Fly headphone amps for around $45-$50 USD and was pleasantly surprised. Great option for an inexpensive practice amp that sounds surprisingly good and lets you practice anywhere, untethered to an amp or wall outlet.

If, as you say at the beginning, YOU are looking for some sort of tiny amp for back-stage practice/warm-up/tune-up, the Crush Mini would be what you would go for. But, as a general bedroom practice amp, I would always go for the most musical sounding amp, so the Crush 35 would be my choice - a little heavier, perhaps, but this is not a consideration if 'bedroom tone' is all you are looking for.

I would choose the “Cough, cough...” (clears throat) Yamaha THR10. Think I better leave now!
