An absolute legend! M.A.S. (Multi Arcade System) arcade sticks. If you grew up in the American arcades this will certainly spark nostalgia. MAS was truly a pioneer in the fighting game community.

i'm the daughter of Thao & Lynn, & i don't think i fully understood the kind of impact they had on the FGC until now. the amount of love & support & generosity that has been shown to us since that night is.. overwhelming (in a good way). thank you all so much for your kind words, your donations & your shares, & for allowing them to live on. reading all the comments, both on here & on the gofundme, has brought me to tears. i wish i could show them how much of an inspiration they were & always will be.

@@BlackCrystalAlchemis I used to talk to Lynn. I remember she always referred to your Dad as the engineer. This is like super early 90's when I bought my first one. I lived in NJ and it was all over the phone. I had an issue with mine and had to send it in years later and they threw in the yellow dreamcast button. Truly nice people. Sorry for your loss. I still have two original sticks. I cherish them and even have video of my own kids playing on them.

Hi Kris.I bought a MAS stick many years ago directly from MAS.I just wanted you to know what an amazing job they did with communication, making sure I got exactly what I wanted, and of course, the quality of the stick itself. (FYI, I went with a completely black stick, including the buttons). To this day, I still have it, and still regard it as one of my very most prized items in my entire video game collection.Thank-you so much, and God bless you and your entire family.

@crazycasey_77 Cause KZbin favors uploading videos multiple times a week. It sucks cause people who upload once in awhile with super high quality content usually get pushed to the side. He would have to branch out his videos to more gaming topics and probably upload at least one a week. Judging by what he has, I don't think he needs the money from youtube chump change.

I'm an avid Street Fighter player. Been playing since 93, but didn't really get serious and competitive with the game until maybe the early 00's (main games being ST, A2-3, 3S, USFIV, and XvSF). I'd always played on pad until one day I decided to get an arcade stick. My first stick was the little CVS2 ASCII joint, which I thought was decent enough at the time. I really didn't know any better. But I rocked it. Wasn't until I seen a buddy of mine bring this big ass joystick to our friend's house that looked like it was ripped right off an arcade cab. "what the fuck is that?" I asked....He told me "this is a Mas - this guy out in OC makes them..." he gave me the info and I must've ordered one on the spot. I got my hands on my own Mas around 02, and been a fan since. It's a shame that the man retired, but I understand. He's a lot older now (mid 60's), and the competition since 09 kind of slowed things down for him since everyone flocked with japanese style parts like Sanwa and Seimitsu (which are also great, but I still favor IL parts - Happ not so much any more). I came up in american arcades, so naturally, those are the parts I like. But these sticks are still sought after; especially by folks in the MvC2 community. Since the creator stepped down (seems like), they are even more rare. I had about 10 of them but sold 6 (to which I kind of regret), so now I'm down to the 4 slimmer versions he made, and 2 of the originals that I'm refurbishing as I type this (recently acquired these). All in all, I love these rare gems, and I'm still on the hunt for more myself being a stick collector and all. They are still the best if you ask me.

One of the best overviews of MAS sticks. If you're wondering why you're getting more views, it's due to people, like me, reminiscing about these sticks after just finding out Thao just recently passed. 1:29 The guy in the video clip crossing his hands over, to use his right hand with the stick instead of the left, tried it an found my dominant right hand is way better at the qcf and hcf despite many years of arcade gaming with the left, not as comfortable a position for wrists though, probably sacrifices muscle memory for strength but interesting so far. Used to play guitar so my left fretting hand so feels slightly better with the button presses than the right, worth giving that a try you might suprise yourself! I imagine maybe some people reverse the inputs to use an inverted arcade stick? Or just make a totally custom reversed one, I have no idea if there is a mass made one like that. These MAS sticks actually came out way before the fighting game scene seriously switched to consoles, which was around the early 2000s. The arcade version of these sticks came with what was called the "MAS Supernova", which was one of the first superguns for playing Jamma arcade games on home TV monitors. In fact, one of these systems was given as the 1st place prize in either 1993 or 1994 at one of the major tournaments in northern California for Super Street Fighter 2, or Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo. There is a clear picture and description of it as the prize in one of the old Street Fighter Guide books from that period. So yeah, they're definitely classic... and they've been around almost since the beginning of the SF2 era.

You should cover classic fightpads too. The Sega Saturn controller continues to be cloned to this day from Play Sega (never used it but seems like it would be good) to Hori Fighting Commander that has spanned multiple consoles (PS3, 360, XB1, PS4 to now on the newest Xbox Series X with the Hori Fighting Commander Octa) to 8bitdo m30 (seems decent but it's cheap and has both wired and wireless versions). Honorable mention for the old stock Dual Shock 3 for PS3 (General Thrillah uses a Dual Shock 4 for Marvel vs Capcom 2 I think) that had a good d-pad and decent buttons but just didn't have 6-button layout.

Thanks for this this video, I've been trying to find out more about arcade sticks specifically from the late 90's and early 2000s. Were there USB arcade sticks back then like these that you could use on Windows PC's and MAME? I know about the X-Arcade 2 player sticks (that seem to come out around 2003) that were compatible with Windows but I'm talking about the single stick variants like these MAS sticks. Did Hori or MadCatz do Arcade sticks for the PC back then (late 90s Early 2000's) or even for the Saturn or Dreamcast or PS2 or Xbox? Because I can't find any information about it. Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.

Anyone who grew up using these for Marvel vs Capcom 2 on Dreamcast remembers that infamous yellow button lol. It would jack up your game.

I would love to own a Mas stick I just discovered your channel thank you for this video. I own a couple jlf's and set them up everywhich way possible, I don't like them one bit. I grew up in the 90's with arcades, the iL eurostick is where it's at for me since happ and iL split I saw the quality difference between them. Is there a way to get a hold of a Mas shell to build up or are there some available for sale? I'm old-school grew up primarily playing street fighter 2 & both marvel vs capcom games.

This video is fucking tripping me out! I'm still new to Fight Sticks due to owning Marvel Vs. Capcom Arcade 1up since Dec, and then in March buying a Arcade stick for the Xbox. After all this time... I got to a point where I ditched the Sanwa PCB for 75gCherry Switches Placed a 4lb Spring with an Extended Shaft, and a Battop on my Arcade stick, but 6lb springs on my A1up... Just to recreate an American feel to the joysticks. I also have Happ Competition Buttons on my A1up. Now I come to find all this history on MAS..... Damn... Arcade 1up has really blown up my interest in Arcades, their set ups, Arcade Sticks and it's all leading me to this video.... And my Want for one of these MAS Sticks!!!!! Y'all even Got Marvel Vs. Capcom in the back ground. Damn.
