Sakurai's words about Iwata's death create a very new, and possibly even more somber outlook on the death of others, that the sadness of one leaving us is not that they are now gone from all of our lives, but that we are now all gone from their life. Sakurai is the fucking man that can, and that quote is beautiful.
@Cpt_Natalia5 жыл бұрын
Goji The Reploid What made this quote more sad to me is my fear of death. The fact that I will be in the void for eternity is just pretty scary to me. No matter why religion exists.
@coolguythematrix55 жыл бұрын
Sylvetube Well in the void you will never know. Like do you remember countless years before you? I guess that death could be like that, like when you are going through medical operation, they put you anesthesia and then you spawn in some bed in the hospital after the operation. But well I believe in afterlife lol.
@josephdimen42785 жыл бұрын
@@coolguythematrix5 Sakurai's quote applies really well. Once we move on the role others play on our life ends as we leave the earth just as our role in their lives ends as well. I remember this quote surprisingly from CoD 1. "Its foolish to mourn for others rather thank God that such men lived". And as such I am thankful that a man named Iwata came to be.

Everyone knows the meme with Sakurai and the "don't ask me for anything again", but honestly, that feels so disconnected from how he actually seems to be. My absolute favourite moment with him was from the last Smash Direct where he sits silent for a few seconds, just blinking, sighing and then asks "Will we ever get to take a break...?" My English is not perfect, but I want to try. Iwata passed away several months before the development of the Smash Brothers Ultimate began. When his death was reported, Sakurai wrote with Twitter as follows. “He has been my boss since HAL period. Even my positions and locations changed, he was the person who understood me. He was a hard worker and a virtuous person. He always drew balanced conclusion and proposals quickly. I think that he is the best leader as far as I know.” “It's not a usual day and it's not a usual mental state, but I came to work and threw myself into development as usual. It's also for Mr. Iwata. I'm doing what I have to do.” When Smash Bros Ultimate was announced at E3, Sakurai tweet in English, “We were finally able to announce Smash Bros. What a good day!” But also tweet in Japanese like this. “Oh…We were finally able to announce Smash Bros.... May I cry a little bit today?”

Sakurai proves to the whole community of what most of the indie community can do and what most of the massive triple AAA companies, Nintendo included, intentionally failed to offer. Sakurai proves to the whole community that he doesn’t care about business or corporate talks. He just want to continue his passion of making games and sharing them to the whole world for us to enjoy. Not to mention that he shows his way around making the game and giving players many choices to offer the more expanded the community base becomes. Honestly, this is why I respect Sakurai. He shows that gaming passion is stronger than corporate greed with his games, unlike many other titles companies like Ubisoft, EA, Activision, etc. throw out the door. And not to mention, mad respect to Sakurai for working his ass off too hard, but he does deserve a break since he put a lot of work and sacrifices to his game projects like a wounded marine on the battlefield.

When Iwata was brought up, it made me so sad. Both of these gaming icons were involved in my longtime favorite game, Kirby's Adventure, as well as games that shaped my childhood like Super Smash Bros. and Melee. One of the last games Iwata had a hand in was one of the best Zelda titles, Breath of the Wild, meanwhile being a mentor for the ever-hardworking Sakurai as he worked on yet another Smash title. I don't think I would have grown up appreciating games the way I do if it weren't for these two, but especially Sakurai, since he brought Kirby as we know him into the gaming world.

I was never a Nintendo guy, but loved their characters a great deal. When going to my friends houses as a kid, many of whom owned an NES/SNES, Mario was a game I was never good at, but Kirby was a different story. It was quite possibly the best looking NES game that was ever released, and the SNES version was also impressive. The gameplay was fun and unique and it really didn’t feel like any other platforner. Mr. Sakurai created two truly loved games that stood out even to someone like me who grew up as a Sega fan, that then begrudgingly moved to PlayStation consoles and the later Nintendo systems such as the Wii and WiiU and PC. It’s sad to know that he went through such depression. This is something that tends to happen to many artists when they devote a great deal of time and effort to anything they work on, and see all of its many faults that many others may never see.
