It's so you don't have to rely on software doing it for you, this way you can use any sampler sequencer and be all good relying on your skill. Plus it's generally not gonna line up right if you just throw something in there unless you're using a loops from a library that are already nicely trimmed.

Dont use the tap function. Take a piece of your song and go to the audio editor > slicing. trim the loop perfectly (so it's 1 or 2 or 4 bars) your bpm wil be right 2 decimals after the comma. try it, you'll be surprised works super fast and is super accurate.
@BlezzBeats
@BlezzBeats 5 жыл бұрын
Good tip! Learning how to do it by ear first is beneficial because you wont have to rely on it if you need to translate to other machines. The tap function is to get a rough estimate and then you lock the loop dead on by ear.

@BlezzBeats
@BlezzBeats 4 жыл бұрын
Watched this video back a few days ago and it's definitely one of my less pedagogical ones but I think you will get it if you grasp the idea. It's most useful when you're dealing with a sample source that's not perfectly truncated loop ready for you to work with and timestretch to the grid, which is a luxury you often get with prepared loops in sample libraries and some autofix tools to an extent but not when you deal with your own sample sources - and it's an "old school way" - if you get this down you will be able to apply the same technique to any tool. I heard another great analogy that makes it clearer - imagine how a DJ is trying to beatmatch by changing the pitch or tempo, that's almost what we're trying to do in the first stage. It might be easier to picture this because in some DAWs you’re seeing the sample visually line up to the grid, whereas you’re using your ears a bit more here just like a DJ would (without the sync button). So we set our start point of our sample to a downbeat and let it loop in a short pattern beginning with one bar. Then we adjust either the pitch of the sample (cause if it's pitched down the tempo is lower, if it's pitched up the tempo is higher) to match our tempo, or the tempo to match the looping sample. When it's dead on, you can lengthen the pattern to 2 bars and see if it's still tight, if not - adjust the tempo some more. Repeat the process one step further if you need and make the loop 4 bars. Minor adjustment to the tempo is almost always required even though you use pitching the sample as your main way to align it with the tempo of the beat. Once you have that, set your end point of the sample right where it loops and truncate your sample, or a copy of it if you’re afraid of messing it up. Changing it from sampler to audio module at this point will have it locked down to the grid and stretchable to the max. Another way to do this right away that you can try next is to use the loop function under Zone in Maschine sampler engine. Loop in this context with any sampler is intended for looping a part in the tail of a sound to make it longer, but you also can set the loop start and end points to span the entire part of a sample you want looped - keep playing the sample back by holding the pad down and when you’re happy, set the start and end points of the play range under Edit to the same values and truncate.

Maybe totally off topic, but since you are from Sweden, don't you use or have used reason from propellerheads, since they are also a Swedish Co? Or what other daw's do you use besides maschine (I also use maschine 75% of my music making time, just because it's fast, intuitive and love how the nks format works with the browser.) besides that I sometimes use reason, ableton and have recently gotten reaper and love it as a 'classic' (linear) daw. Anyhow love your vids, keep em coming for the purples and be DANGERUS ;)
@BlezzBeats
@BlezzBeats 5 жыл бұрын
Off topic is always on topic once you go there! I used Reason alot during version 2-2.5. Back then I had the Ensoniq EPS 16 plus and I got bored of the sequencing from time to time. It's come a long way since then tho 🚀 Now I use Logic Pro X for tracking vocals and when I'm doing more non-linear stuff. Reason is amazing but I tend to work way faster editing on the Maschine.

u just saying "time stretch" made more sense to me lol...so basically time stretching is either trying to make the sample faster or slower
@BlezzBeats
@BlezzBeats 5 жыл бұрын
Lol exactly! Pitching a sample up or down will change the speed as well. Lower pitch = wider soundwaves = more time and vice versa. So its either than when you're matching a sample with your tempo, timestretching, or chopping it up into notes and filling the gaps. Thats pretty much it when you're aligning samples in space n time.

@@stephenbridge6838 Ok so if you use the audiomodule it will automatically stretch everything to the bpm you've set. If your sample is one sound (not chopped up) all you need to do is hold shift and press browse and switch from Sampler to Audio. Enter the bpm of your sample, and set the length of the pattern.
