Maserati MC12 Corsa Screaming V12 Engine & Accelerations at Imola Circuit!

With this video we go back to the 2018 Historic Minardi Day, an event born in 2016 in order to celebrate the Minardi F1 team after 10 years from its last F1 season. In the following years it have become more a two-days motorsport festival where old Formula cars could "stretch their legs" on track together with GT race cars, prototypes and supercars during specific sessions.
In addition to this, some sportscar/supercar manufacturers can bring one of their models at this event and offer passenger rides to public or VIPs.
That year Maserati was there with a Granturismo S and this Maserati MC12 Versione Corsa (passenger ride on which it would have been reserved to Maserati customers and people inside Maserati, I think) driven by Andrea Bertolini, probably the driver who knows the MC12 best, being the official test driver and FIA GT and GT1 World champion with this car for 4 years (2006, 2008, 2009 and 2010). But be careful: the MC12 Versione Corsa isn't the actual GT1 race car. The so called 'Corsa', like the one in this video, is the track-only MC12 built in just 15 examples (12 for private customers plus other 3 for testing and marketing purposes). It's basically the Maserati 'XX' car if you want to make a comparison with Ferrari and their XX Programmes.
It was directly developed from the 2005 MC12 GT1 but compared to this the Ferrari 6.0-litre V12 engine on the Corsa is without intake restrictors (as instead required by the technical regulations of the FIA GT) so it can deliver more power, reaching 755 hp at 8,000 rpm, a whopping 125 hp more than the race engine, limited to 630 hp. Another big difference between the two is the gearbox: the GT1 has a 6-speed sequential gearbox, the Versione Corsa has a 6-speed “Maserati Cambiocorsa” semiautomatic transmission (that's why it sounds so slow and in that way compared to the faster GT1 sequential). Basically the upshifts sound and the steering wheels + interiors are what allow you to distinguish the two racing variants of the MC12.
In this brief video you can enjoy some accelerations and a lap onboard around Imola Circuit. Unfortunately this could have been a whole better and longer video if the MC12 Corsa hadn't had a power steering and upshifting issues who forced Andrea to make just four laps during the whole weekend and not being able to push as he would have liked.

Future of what? Lots of technologies come around and the old ones are still the best. Imagine seeing plastic violins and thinking "they are new, so they must be the future", while wooden classic violins still produce the best sound by far. ICE will still be the best engine for sports. While I'm eager to have an electric car to go around, I'll (most probably) never watch a heartless souless electric race with any enthusiasm, as all elements which make a race fun are taken out of the equation. Hybrids are very fun though.

Vehicle manufacturer will not be able to meet emission regulation without electric or Hybrid vehicles. How is the ICE a better when most are only not even 30% efficient. Mercedes F1 team was only just now able to achieve 50% efficiency on the gas portion of their F1 engine. How is an ICE better if it only uses 50% of energy of the gasoline sprayed into the combustion chamber? Why is the AMG 7 liter V12 obsolete? Only boutique manufacturer's like Pagani use if and even they have gone to Huayra.

@@TheLogitech91 Better for competition mate. Competition is not just about being the "best" or the most efficient, but creating the conditions to make the parameters challenging and unpredictable. There are hundreds of racing categories, and I'm sure we will get more and more electrical in the future, but right now I'd rather watch paint dry. The only thing they have that is interesting is instant acceleration, and that is extremely boring for racing, it takes away the finesse that the cars demand from drivers. We have cars, and yet we marvel at Usain Bolt competing with his legs. We have the most lethal guns, and yet the olympics is all about simple bow and arrows and the finesse they demand. I'm not talking about transport vehicles, because then let's face it, Combustion AND Electric cars are both shit, Mass Transit is the only real solution for the environment, I'm talking about the art of competion and sports, which is entertainment. When it comes to entertainment, it has never been about efficiency, it has always been about what get us hooked, it doesn't matter how rational it is (Video games comes to mind, useless projections of virtual reality, but hey they are fun for people who enjoy them).

First thing I noticed was how slow the upshifts are on this old sequential. The modern boxes like my X Shift are around 30-40 milliseconds. This thing changes at lot sloooowwwweeeerrrr - but it still sounds fantastic!!!!!

Unpopular opinion: Looking at the capabilities, race pedigree, and success the GT1 version of the Maserati MC12 brought to Maserati between 2005 and 2010, I think it would've done well in the late 90s endurance racing scene (WSC, USRRC, ALMS, and FIA GT Championship, especially the 1998 season) had it been based on the Ferrari F50 (instead of the Enzo Ferrari) and originally developed without the BoP (allowing it to retain the Corsa's wide rear wing, instead of the BoP-restricted narrow wing) for the original FIA GT1/ACO LMGT1 class, instead of the FIA GT2 class (AKA new ACO LMGT1 in "Le Mans Series", new FIA GT1 in "FIA GT Championship" and "FIA GT1 World Champioship", and IMSA GTS in "American Le Mans Series") that replaced it in 1999. Maybe the Mercedes CLK-LM wouldn't have won the 1998 FIA GT Championship had the MC12 GT1 been there? Or maybe the MC12 GT1 would've put up a good fight with the Chrysler Viper GTS-R, Marcos Mantara LM600, and Porsche 911 GT2 Evo had it remained as an FIA GT2 car, but for the 90s era. Who knows? Hearing its V12 screaming in unison with the era's greats (Mercedes CLK-GTR, Mercedes CLK-LM, Porsche 911 GT1, McLaren F1 GTR Longtail, Panoz Esperante GTR-1, Chrysler Viper GTS-R, Porsche 911 GT2 Evo, and Marcos Mantara LM600) would've been pure bliss. Where the Ferrari F50 GT unfortunately stopped, its racing cousin (although hypothetical) from Maserati Corse would've stepped in to accomplish its mission. I have a feeling that the Maserati MC12 GT1 would've felt right at home in either class during that era (late 90s or just 1998), instead of only between 2004 and 2011. Talk about untapped potential and missed opportunity in the late 90s, given the dominance it originally showcased. Mid-to-late-2000s dominance, but now based on and on par with with the Ferrari F50 GT, developed the original FIA GT1/ACO LMGT1 class, and without BoP (so no narrow rear wing, but instead using the same one the MC12 Corsa has, while still retaining that iconic MC12 GT1 aesthetic we all know)? Talk about a missile! Plus, the "GT1" in its version name would've ACTUALLY been fitting this time: a GT1 car competing in the actual GT1 class, instead of the one that raced alongside it since 1994 and succeeded it in 1999.
