That slap was her way of saying "I know I'm a total failure, but my addiction has got too strong a hold on me to admit that you're right."
@lindaoneil50852 жыл бұрын
That's how many parents are. If a stranger tells them the truth about themselves, they shrug it off, but when their own child says the same thing, all of a sudden it's "backtalk" and "disrespect". When I was growing up, the adults were ALWAYS right, and the kids were ALWAYS wrong, and as a kid, you were not allowed to take offense to it, no matter how arbitrarily the adults treated you. Later, when the adults found out you were innocent after all, no apology, no nothing. If you were in the wrong, you had to practically beg for forgiveness. The one-sidedness of it all still makes me angry today. 😠

*_FUN FACT:_* That poem is an actual poem that the real Rocky Dennis wrote. In fact, according to an interview Rusty Dennis did back in the 80s or 90s, this scene is very accurate to what happened in real life. The drug/alcohol pamphlets being left around the house, the dishes being broken, ripping the baseball card, the slap, etc.

This was too real of a movie. Many would be quick to judge Rusty as a nasty, trashy person and drug addict, but the reality was she wasn’t a bad person at heart at all. She did drugs and ran around to deal with having a son that had a physical disability and later on a judgmental father disappointed with her choices she made in life. She was a great mother to Rocky most of the movie that reassured him especially with a school principal that assumes he’s special needs, a cold and impersonal doctor, and that he’ll be just fine in the long run when he starts school and win people over with his kindness and good nature.

Wayne Hoxit she would do drugs to cope & she’s promised him she’d stop going out and doing drugs so he went to camp with nothing but blind people as a “break” just watch the full movie.

Wayne Hoxit well rusty promised to cut back on her drinking and doing drugs i guess she did it far to often breaking promises to Rocky so he had enough so he told her the truth and to stop doing drugs and drinking.
