I got it spoiled for me EARLY ON, I was shall we say "Jumpscared" with the names a while before the album dropped, and it was DEVESTATING! It ruined the experience for me for a good couple months, because even though I hadnt looked them up after learning them it still broke the illusion to know in the first place and I wouldnt wish that experience on ANYONE ELSE, and then to DOX THEM on top of that, which of course is the main issue, which is then compounded by the bands artistic anonimity being shit all over by the people who leaked this info? Fucking pathetic. My guess is that the social media wipe is twofold, its 1) New era begins, and 2) No peek behind the fuckin curtain for you anymore, and FAIR ENOUGH. The Sleep Token fanbase has CLEALY proved itself incapable of doing the whole parasocial thing so I think Vessel, II, III, and IV taking it away is more than the right move. This was just overall WRONG and I hope the person responsible gets their due karma.

Now that I've had some time to think this through here are my current thoughts: ST really blew up in 2023 and obviously gained millions of fans. With millions of fans (i say "fan" loosely), there's bound to be a few people who lack the gene of "don't be a fucking psycho stalker". Most celebrities/bands have leaks at some point, and this is just the first time there's really been massive drama for ST. It's awful, despicable, and mentally unhinged, but it does happen. The boys will be back when they're ready, fame hit them like a semi truck in the span of a few months and it's a lot to process. They're my favorite band and I hope they will be okay.

Well I, for one, do NOT plan on looking into what the revealed identities are. I absolutely adore the band with all my heart, and any true Sleep Token fan will respect their wishes to keep the music as the focus, and not the identities of those behind it. I sincerely hope this doesn't prevent them continuing to write music, that would break my heart.

Time and time again, individual unhinged freaks within a fandom, or toxic standoms as a whole find a way to ruin the lives of their favorite artists, other fans, and critics. Doxxing is one of the worst things anyone can do on the internet, and I hope all parties responsible for it get thrown in jail ASAP. Sleep Token did not deserve this at all. The masks served a great purpose of keeping their identites safe, while also bringing a mysterious yet badass atmosphere to the band and their live shows, even if I'm not the biggest fan of their music. Now all of that has been taken from them against their will, and I hope they don't ultimately end up feeling forced to ditch the masks altogether, or quit doing what they love. That's the last thing I ever want to happen to an artist or band. I'm just grateful that Daft Punk were able to go for so long without this happening to them. IIRC, only recently did Thomas Bangalter make the choice to reveal his face to the public. If I was a musician or DJ, I'd also use a mask or helmet for my own safety and sanity.

Bands typically do the whole erasing their instagram post before the start of a new era. There’s that plus they have shown themselves with new mask. So I think it may be coincidental and people might be reading into it to much as to why that’s happening. However it is concerning that iii deleted his instagram and what’s going on with that person releasing their info is crazy. Their identities have been known and available online for a long time. I understand why people would go through everything they can to find out who the masked members are simply out of curiosity but receiving birth certificates and addresses is truly disturbing and that person needs help.

First off, I think it’s hard to overestimate how much I’d admire these dudes if they ceased right here, denying the doxx to let people hold on to the story and reinventing themselves as a new band in the Sleep Token universe. That would be so rad. In fact, I wouldn’t be surprised if something like that happened: with fame comes attention and for a group as thoughtful as these people are, it’d be shocking if they didn’t have a plan for when their identities were revealed. Because you’re right: it is awful what sort of information was revealed. In this day, you have to be aware of what “tik tok” or internet notoriety will bring and I’m not surprised their names were revealed. But addresses and birth certificates? So gross. At the same time, this attention is what comes with online “fandom” and, really, music fans. If you want anonymity, don’t center the entirety of your presentation and “story” around something inherently mysterious. The gimmick worked, but it was always going to come to this and I hope they prepared. Be it over the Beatles, Elvis, the Cure, or whatever, music “fans” have always been intense - couple that with a spooky ARG and you’re going to get people trying to figure things out. So yeah, it’s not cool to reveal so much about these people, but it shouldn’t shock anyone. This was going to happen and if they truly wanted anonymity, well, being in a successful band ain’t where you find that.

I only just discovered Sleep Token and having this happen on the heels of that wonderful discovery is horribly disappointing. I've been metal for longer than most of these gate keeper types out there have and I love this band because they take so many familiar elements and manage to recombine them into something uniquely fresh and new and THEIRS. I'm so glad I've been able to avoid all information about their identities - I don't use TikTok, avoid their subreddit, etc. I don't get the point in knowing their identities - it's so much more captivating when Vessel's anonymous, like knowing he's some skinny British dude just sucks the mystique from the band. Honestly I dont believe this is the "end" for them. They themselves im sure knew the risks of being anonymous and eventually getting exposed. Its really fucked up of being exposed in such a way of revealing their personal information. Last year I heard Sleep Token for the first time and was instantly hooked to their music and have been a fan ever since. Tho im not fond of the members being exposed, especially the way they were it dont change the enjoyment I get from them. Nor should it change anyone else that truly enjoys them. I believe they will continue to evolve and succeed at what they set out to do. This is nothing more then a pathetic attempt with nothing to gain from it. Sleep Token will continue to touch our hearts for many years to come.

I'm gonna be honest, I'm not particularly a fan of Sleep Token's music, I'm not against them, it's just not my thing. That being said, seeing their success has made me really happy for the future of heavy metal music as a whole because it's good to see heavy music being in the spotlight again, even if I don't particularly care for it. The person or people that did this are absolutely disgusting for this and I really hope the band will be okay in the end. I have to imagine this situation is probably going to be the inspiration for some new music in the near future but obviously, only time will tell.

I have been a Sleep Token fan since early 2019, and it is sad how a part of the fandom didn't get that the band was not about the parasocial relationship, that's why they are anonymous. Loving the music, sure. Relating to it? Also really good. Oversexualizing and being so extreme about the band goes too far, though. Doxxing and harassment is plain wrong, but Sleep Token doesn’t have anything to fall back on once their identities are known like other once anonymous bands and that’s their own fault. Slipknot had insane music and the fact Cory, Clown, and Jim were okay with being more public. Ghost has the well developed narrative of Papa. GWAR has the human slaves of whichever character each member portrays. I’ve never felt that about Sleep Token and that’s their own fault.

I doubt this is the end of Sleep Token, more of just a real unfortunate timing. Regardless doxxing members of the band is disgusting and creepy. I know Noah of Bad Omens recently deleted his social media accounts due to similar stuff. Sadly I don't see this behavior going away any time soon.

Man, I fucking hate this. I really really hope the band keeps going, but if they chose not to, I don't blame them. I honestly don't get how someone could get so obssessed over a band member (or any celebrity for that matter). Like, yeah, I would love to meet my favorite musicians some day, but that doesn't mean I'm gonna look up for their address and fucking show up at their door. At the end of the day your favorite artists are just people who happen to make stuff you like, chill the fuck out and respect boundaries.

The point of bands pursuing an anonymous existence is partly so that _the audience can play along_ with it. Some call it "mystique" and it's what artists like Alice Cooper, Bathory, Venom, Celtic Frost, Iron Maiden, Kiss, Mayhem, Deicide, Marilyn Manson, Brujeria, and countless others have used to complement their music and provide a buffer between artist and fan. It's the imbeciles who insist on breaking this sacred fourth wall who ruin it for everybody. I personally don't even like Sleep Token, but I think they have an interesting visual aesthetic going, and are skilled musicians attempting to unite various contrasting styles of music. If I WERE a fan, I would make it a point not to care who the musicians in the band are.
