Soundproofing was something we didn't think much about during design, but glad we thought about before drywall! There are other methods we plan to use in the future addition that improve on insulation alone, such as staggered studs, double layered 5/8" drywall, and resilient channel. Interior sound deadning, I would make the interior walls 8" duel wall stager studs with the rockwholl and 5/8" sound deadning dry wall.

Would adding 14.5" noggins (not sure what others call them) half way up to counter any bowing of the studs, have helped? Assuming you got the studs in at 16" centers at top and bottom.

Haha we call it blocking, it would help but usually not worth the effort for how many you'd have to do

What is a ballpark on the rockwool cost vs other wall insulation, say fiberglas batts? 2X or 3X?

My local HD has R-19 fiberglass at $1.20/sqft and R-23 Rockwool for $2.31/sqft. Probably could find better deals buying in bulk from a distributor (but maybe not)

Very cute - give that girl her props! Not sure you want to push her like that in the future, though. I'm glad you are going into such detail with all of this... it's kind of like Cole the Cornstar's remodel. He really just ripped out everything that wasn't 100% and got it right. You are getting it right from the start... or at least from the initial build. You might find, though, if you start having kids... that you WANT to be able to hear them on the other side of the house - but that's tomorrow's problem, right? lol

I dont see much of a point in using safe n sound when comfrtbatt does the same thing. I just put the comfortbatt inside my interior walls to decide sound and thermal bridging.
