I just finished framing, building my own house and at first I thought y'all move slow now I know for every minute of movement there is about 10x that in thinking/ planing and securing materials. Y'all are doing awesome and very inspiring.

Alex and Elena, I first came across your channel when I was researching Makita miter saw a year ago, a few weeks back I found your channel again when I was looking for how-tos on HVAC ducting - your videos are the only ones I could find, thank you! Compared to Essential Craftsman's spec house building series, I found yours has so much more details about different processes. Look forward to more your future videos!

Wow thanks! We like watching EC so that's a big compliment 🙂

Thank you guys so much for creating all of your videos. I really enjoy them. I have gone back to make sure I have seen all of them. I keep adding items to the list in my head of things not to miss when I build my house such as blocking everywhere. I saw on a build show video where a custom builder hangs 3/4” advantech on the entire shower before they do the water proofing system so they can add grab handles later anywhere. Great job and thank you guys.

Thank you for watching and glad you're getting some good info from the videos! We have a running note of our own "lessons learned" and feature list for future builds, eventually we'll make that available on the website. Good tip on the Advantech! The hard part is not letting it build the wall out too noticeably, maybe they let in the studs to accomodate.

Adding 2x4 blocking adds to the structural support of your studs. The weight of the house and just earth movement will make your studs bow so the blocking is used to prevent your studs form shifting over time but hey, straight studs will last a few years before that happens. Good job nonetheless. Love your explanations and you're doing some great work here.

You might consider whether the LED tape you plan to install under the railing is dimmable. Those strips can be very bright and you may inadvertently end up with a room light rather than a nightlight.

Haha true! Haven’t gotten that far quite yet. I’ve heard Hafele makes some high quality ones for cabinetry, might try them out

I usually watch YT on 2x and get bored, but this is ... information heavy at 1x and as someone who has built a house with a lot of professional help, there's some solid tips here

I appreciate that, from someone who also watches most videos at 1.5x or higher 😆

It's totally unrelated but on your latest FB Stories on flooring. What flooring was that?

I would think if the baseboard is nailed at the bottom and previous stud, it'll be fine. It's not a wet noodle, and it's not structural.

Time will tell! I think I first heard of this area from Spencer Lewis at Insider Carpentry, the tough part is the skirt board is a 1x12 (prone to cupping) with a 1x6 or 1x8 base that will be flatter. Plus slight differences in seasonal movement. Probably something only a finish carpenter would ever notice 😆
