One commonality in these ammo test is Federal Ammo one of the best performers period. First was the Trophy Bonded Bear Claw and to me it is my favorite of all time. then came the Trophy Bonded Tip, then Terminal Assent. All great bullets. Federal Rocks.

Thats my big game rifle. Love my old 30/06 but the 7mm bullet in my opinion is the perfect bore to powder ratio. High BC bullets, nice weights and efficient cartridge from all the 7mm cartridges.
@kevinmishoe74853 ай бұрын
I shoot trophy bonded tip in most of my rifles, 140 grain 270, 160 grain 7mag, and 165 grain in 300 win mag. Accuracy is very good in all rifles, doesn’t blow up on close range shots. Have only recovered 1 bullet from an animal and that was a 200lb white tail shot straight on at 315 yards, recovered bullet in the pelvic/hip joint. Bullet preformed flawlessly buck ran approximately 0 yards.

I've been shooting a 7mm rem mag since I'm 12 years old. They're not that bad to shoot honestly.
@garrettschienschang78983 ай бұрын
@@robertmajors1737 for someone built/raised like us that’s likely true as my first center fire rifle was a 300wmg at 11. But for someone like my gf who is 5’4” and 130lbs with a muscular disease shooting a 20 gauge is on the border of too much, or my father who used to be the same as me hunting with 3.5” 12 gauge loads but has since had surgery on both shoulders and can’t take recoil well any more. I know a bunch of young and old shooters that won’t touch magnum calibers for their perceived recoil regardless of how well they preform.

Haven’t used the 7Mag but have used 140 grain 280 rem and they are absolutely devastating. Some of the most accurate factory ammo I have ever used. Upsetting that it is impossible to find. I believe Federal makes Premium ammo compared to most other companies. They have truly made some of the most versatile bullets on the market
@surq07846 күн бұрын
Devastating to what exactly? I'm not mocking you, I'm just wondering what you've used it on? Is it any better than the Barnes LRX? I've taken out plenty of elk out with that bullet, and I'm a huge fan of the fact that it's lead-free.
@Bobcat33556 күн бұрын
@ I have used them all on whitetail and every one that I have shot was a bang flop. All of the internal organs such as the heart, lungs, and liver were turned to mush in 2 of them. The LRX will get more penetration for sure on elk sized game but the TBT will dumb a lot of energy in the chest cavity and will stay together
@rexking36983 ай бұрын
Good video. Very thorough. Since you compared it to a 308 I thought you should look at my 338 federal numbers. 160gr ttsx 3079fps avg. muzzle energy 3367 and 2797 at 100 yds. My handloads of course.

Once again. Federal trophy bonded tip/terminal ascent is the best bullet period

Trophy Bonded Bear-claws started with the T stamped on the base going way back. On the Barnes X bullets I use a small automatic center punch and add a couple dots on mine, •X• just for shits & giggles. Don't recover many as they auger a big tunnel and exit the backside mostly. On Accubonds I use a small ball graver and add my initials because I recover a lot and it freaks out the guys when we're skinning etc and they find the bullet. Gotta get the laughs in when you can.
Waiting to see you test Remington Core-Lokt tipped 150 gr.

Any time you see a factory load beat advertised velocity, it's nice. That uniform performance, excellent penetration, and 2.5x controlled expansion definitely makes this load a contender for best factory big game load in any cartridge. I love the 7mm Rem Mag. Great results, downrange performance, high SDs and BCs, all from a cartridge that doesn't beat you up. The 7mm Rem Mag is one of the best. I just wish it had been spec'd for a 8.5 twist or faster from the beginning. This 160 gr is about as long and heavy as you can go in most factory rifles without running into problems, like we saw with the 175 gr Fusion Tipped a little while ago.
@masonleather_outdoors3 ай бұрын
What result are you correlating to rifling twist rate for the 175gr Fusion Tipped?
@MTMILITIAMAN7.623 ай бұрын
@masonoutdoors_masonleather As I explained in my comment on the review for that round, the erratic penetration depth and lack of uniformity with expansion are signs that the bullet is marginally stabilized In a fully stabilized projectile, the tip will be static in front of the bullet's center of mass and its vector of flight. It will, therefore, present the smallest possible surface area for drag and will achieve optimal BC. It will also hit point forward and will, therefore, achieve more consistent terminal performance, with uniform expansion and predictable penetration, as was the case with these Trophy Tipped rounds. With a marginally stabilized projectile, the tip traces small circles around the bullet's vector of flight but remains in front of the bullet's center of mass (no keyholing). This means the bullet presents more surface area for drag and thus won't achieve optimal published BC because the tip is pushing through the air at an angle. This also means that the bullet impacts its target with a slight angle, which leads to erratic performance, such as drastic differences in penetration depth and a general lack of uniformity seen in expansion.

I handload these exact same projectiles to the same velocity that you posted but out of a Rem 700 CDL 26", I have never had them fail on any game. IMO a little to tough a bullet for deer, kind of zip through the lungs but they do work.

In my 7mm-rem-mag Browning BLR Federal is the only one that had me looking for bullet holes at 300 yards shooting in the same hole is hard especially at 300 yards i still have the target till this day.

@johnnorman77083 ай бұрын
That penetration is great for big thick animals for sure. The velocity and expansion was really decent too. That's an elk buster. Also strongly suggests that 160 grain bullets really are a much better weight balance than 175 grain for the cartridge. Drop 15 grains of bullet weight and gain about 150 FPS in velocity is a real fair trade.

The 7 Rem Mag is a great cartridge. But in factory loads one could debate if it is really a magnum. Velocity is squared in the ft-lb formula but still it trails the 300 Win Mag by miles. It’s way closer to a hot 30-06 at short to medium distances
@johnnorman77083 ай бұрын
The hot .30-06 concept is why so many people are still running the old .30-06. I have noted that the actual spread between .30-06 and 7mm Rem Mag isn't as much as you would think, nor as much as it should be with a lot of rifle and ammo combinations.
@WayStedYou3 ай бұрын
because its smaller than a 300 win mag and also has less surface area to push on vs the .308 diamater projectiles so there is no real way it will match it with similar powder capacity
@StevoRicho3 ай бұрын
The factory loads are very light, maybe because they want to sell more guns in their "latest" new cartridge??? I get 3100 fps with 168gr and 3300fps with 140gr with no pressure signs of excess case head expansion. Barrel 26" . The 7mag is a great cartridge 👍🇦🇺
