Right on! For those times that I do want to make sure the bottom has no tearout, I just put my workpiece on top of a piece of scrap MDF or hardboard.

I’ve heard other KZbinrs stress that they are working safe…I don’t get it? Do people really comment about such things? I’m tired of hearing you poor guys having to go over what you’re doing personally to be safe…people should mind their own business. I've seen some videos where they don't use push sticks with their table saws and put their hands way too close to the blade. That always scares me.

@@Ted_James I’ve noticed that too Ted and sometimes it’s not as close as it seems. If I had a push stick that was not working for the piece of wood I’d use my hands. Safety equipment is only good when it can be used as designed. Secondly, the “moots” that are calling out KZbinrs about safety obviously already know how to be safe otherwise they wouldn’t say anything. We all take calculated risk all the time, if I know my band saw is plugged in but need to reach by the blade, I’m sorry, I’m not going to go unplug the damn thing because I can’t navigate reaching pass the blade and turning on the machine. If your abilities are THAT bad…woodworking is too dangerous for you. I have all the PPE I need and use it most of the time within reason. Sometimes I don’t use it. Anyone that telling you different is either lying or don’t own a wood shop. Check out Kings fine woodworking, now that guy is good and he even trust his daughters to push wood with in a certain distance past a table saw blade. The safest thing we can do is to keep our gear as finely tuned as possible. Thanks and these are only my opinions

Understand the desire for a zero clearance fence and bottom plate. However I found the zero clearance fence option doesn’t allow for any dust collection. Repeat…none. This might be ok for small pieces but if you are cutting a lot of larger pieces the dust will quickly collect at the base of the zero clearance fence which is 1) messy and requires repeated cleaning after a few cuts, and 2) builds up to the point the fence is no longer 90 degrees. My two cents….

I haven’t used the zero clearance fence as much as I had anticipated, but when I do I find that dust collection isn’t quite as bad if I leave on side open. I still get a bit of buildup, but a chamfer at the bottom of the fence has helped alleviate the need to deal with it unless I’m making many cuts. If anything, I like the taller fence more than the zero clearance aspect.

If fence itself is damaged beyond repair can a something like aluminum angle iron be used and then add the wood to that, stop blocks etc? My saw is too old to get a replacement fence

That’s a great question and something I’m not qualified to answer. I’m sure it’s possible, though!

As your blade gets dull you will get tear out, so I would look at cleaning it and possibly having it sharpened.
