Dolfins wouldn't be usefull for a box unloader that doesn't destroy the box. The trick that makes the dolfins works with destroying the boxes is because the player always picks up the oldest item in priority, the dolphin refreshes the age of the items individually for each slot of crafting at a time, that way it ensure that the player always picks up the item in the right order to craft them. But that's not needed when you already pick up and dispense the items one at a time, as the age is also spread out equally throughout the items (edit: awesome video, you succeeded in finding solutions to the problems I couldn't. I love the way you explain how it works so we can use the méchanics ousrselvs instead of just copying the deisgn)
@cubicmetre3 жыл бұрын
You are correct, except the player also checks for the relative location of items. So items closer to the player are picked up first. This means that you also need pixel perfect alignment. Once that is achieved the distribution of the tick priorities is what drives this concept home. There's no reason why you couldn't substitute the box yeeter for an unloader array and then spread the items out using the dolphins.
@sanderbos42433 жыл бұрын
@@cubicmetre Isn't pixel perfect alignment already achievable with (admittedly more complicated) alignment setups? Is what you're saying about tick priorities the same as what the other person referred to as item age?
@cubicmetre3 жыл бұрын
@@sanderbos4243 Tick priority is defined by item age, when a box is destroyed all of it's contents get bunched together in the same tick phase. However the dolphins grab one item at a time and reset their item age giving them a new tick priority. This setup with the dolphins in minecarts already obtains pixel perfect alignment, evident from the fact that every item lands on exactly the same spot coming out of the portal. All of these factors combine to ensure that even when the players inventory fills up, there is an even amount of every crafting slot.

@cubicmetre3 жыл бұрын
I have tried to come up with a few concepts for this, the main issue is that it is exponentially more difficult to decompose a 3D shape into a single block stream than it is to decompose a 2D object. Tree farms are really simple, because aftercrushing the leaves you are left with a line of logs which you can simply push out of the farm into a plane. With fungus farms however, you are left with a big 3D structure which needs to be decomposed one plane at a time. This is very difficult and takes a long time.

Instead of using shulker boxs, you can use hopper minecarts, to take the items from the shulker boxs, break them, use 2 separator on the water stream to take back the hopper and the cart, and the water leave the itens in the dolphins. There are only two major problems, recraft the hopper minecarts and craft arrows to break the carts. Maybe there's other way to break the carts.

I cheated a bit and used tweakeroos "disable entity ticking" option which stops the client from processing entities. In singleplayer this has the effect of making entities behave as though they are in lazy or redstone chunks. Another option is to enable the gamerule "spectators do not generate chunks" which allows you to spectate a system as though the player is not there, however the contraption will need to loaded in some other way.

Could you theoretically make this design work with just dolphin item unloader? I imagine if you order the items in the boxes it would work, and at that speed it would be possible to use hoppers to load the crafted items into boxes. Possibly by splitting the item stream across the chunk boarder into redstone possessing to minimize lag and maximize speed? you would only need to split it into something over 57 to handle one dolphin unloader worth of crafting. Idk tho, the easiest would be to split to 64 cuz it's root 2, but that would need 60 item stream splitters running constantly. I'm not really up to date on that redstone meta, so idk if it would cause to much lag due to pistons or something, or would be impossible because of timing issues
