If you mean me, that was the best ending if you are hell bent on Shepard being with Garrus. But Synthesis lets everyone but you live. And you are dead, not trapped in some reaper mind purgatory until the heat death of the universe. I suppose Thane romance with the Synthesis ending would be the "happy" ending..that is until both you and Irikah meet Thane across the sea. That said, my Shep hearts Garrus so yeah I always go Destroy with a side of hope at the end.

Same here. My "canon" playthrough my Shepard romanced no one in Mass Effect, romanced Thane in ME2, and ended ME3 with synthesis, sacrificing herself.

My "canon" playthrough was a Male shep that was going to romance Ashley until she died on Virmire (I went back for Kaidan because that was where the bomb was, and my first time through I thought the "correct" answer was to go back to the bomb so the geth don't disarm it). Come ME2 I ended up romancing Tali, which I continued through to 3. I picked synthesis because I thought that would "cure" Tali and the Quarians so they wouldn't need the suits, which Extended cut later confirmed. On future playthroughs, my malesheps tend to go with Liara while my femsheps romance Thane. With the Tali/Garrus pairing in 3, I just find it too adorable to leave either of them without someone, so nowadays I tend to avoid romancing either of them so they can both be happy. I've also gone back to letting Kaidan die on Virmire most of the time because Ashley gets to hook up with Vega... I wish they would have paired Kaidan up with Cortez or something similar, given his orientation in 3.

1:05 That goddamn voice crack. I think Jennifer was probably legit sad about doing this part and I don't blame her. Kaidan and Liara were decent in the first game but Thane was actually the first romance character I actively pursued in Mass Effect with a femshep. He's just been so cold and alone and is seeking redemption for everything he had done in his life that he dug those big lizard fish eyes into my mind. To top it all off he's in the middle of dying of an incurable disease and despite that manages to combat a death sentence that was set for 6 months ago. What a tragic character and a badass to only know for only about 1 and a quarter games. Needless to say when the final renegade action popped up to end Kai Leng once and for all I hammered the shoulder button like a fucking madman. Kai murdered my sensitive tragic gold hearted assassin husbando and he needed to *DIE*. And oh boy did he *DIE*! Never before was I so happy to see a villain death.

Technically only with the synthesis ending, with the control ending shepard's body stops existing, but her mind and consciousness lives on every single reaper. I'm an atheist, and I don't believe in souls, so I don't know if the consciousness and the soul are considered the same thing on the religious aspect.

rautobi Not sure why would drag that in, but let's drop that. The Catalyst does say that your memories and all that you are will be stored in Reaper form. Your memories and motivations live on in the Reapers, but it's not your life force, so technically, you're dead. If you ask me, of course. Many ways to interpret it. So I still want to believe that Shepard does meet Thane in the end, while a Shepard "copy" rules over the Reapers and bladibla helps everyone and even more bladibla.

rautobi I've gotta correct you, because in the EC Control ending, the Shepard/Catalyst states that "through her (Shepard's) *death*, I was created" and that through her death, her thoughts (Renegade or Paragon slant, take your pick) were freed, and gave the new Catalyst purpose. But yeah, I always like to think that, in the end, Thane and his Siha got their happy ending and can be together again-- forever. (Yeah, yeah, I'm a hopeless romantic, I know.)

My brother asked me, "Why do you always go for Thane?" How could I not? He's probably the most emotionally fulfilling character romance I've ever experienced. Everything with him felt very organic and relatable. Thane was more then just an assassin...His heart was so human it made me question my own heart as a human. Thane: "I saw what you have done Siha... this universe has seen what you have done." (Scenes showing organics and synthetics interacting, having been changed by the synthesis) Thane: "You gave them a future Siha... one in which the cycle of the Reapers is broken. Words cannot express how proud of you I am." FS: (Picks "Words can't express this either" option) "Word's can't express how much I love you." Thane: "We are here now, Siha... for as long as we are here..." FS: (Picks "Investigate > The Sea" option) "So this is the sea..." Thane: (Camera shows the beach they are at) "Yes... that is what we called it." FS: (Picks "We should do something together" option) "Got a boat? I was so upset I decided to replay Mass Effect 2 and 3 dating Thane and once he dies I decided to have some fun with Traynor (which was awesome). Thane is awesome and actually the romance fits well with my Shep she became distressed over Thane (you get Traynor's message right AFTER he dies) and decided to cling to the nearest company she could love...it was awesome I was always too nervous to try a lesbian Shepard but Traynor is pretty funny at times.

At first I actually considered taking Garrus as love interest in ME2 because I thought it might be amusing but then I more or less would have had to talk him into it I guessed it could have looked too forced and went for Thane instead. And gosh I didn't regret it one single moment. In ME2 it was already quite sad but then all those scenes at the hospital and his death in ME3 and then the additional goodbye scenes for the Citadel DLCs, I was just sitting there crying. I have to say I prefer playing with male Shepard but I'm willing to go back to FemShep any time just to have that romance again.

I don't know what it is about Thane, but no character in any video game I've ever played has made me as emotional/"in love" with them as he has. When I first played ME, I thought Garrus was the coolest ever and no one would be better than him but once I talked to Thane on the ship I was so touched I forgot about everybody else and even thinking about his character/story makes me emotional.

I kind of thought of that scene as a reflection of Shepard's thoughts. She obviously felt for a time, that she will die (dreams with the child where she burns with him in the last one, her last words to Thane ("Meet you across the see" or "You won't be alone for long")), and I always thought that this wasn't really a "ghost" but her own mind, as she comes to terms with her likely death, with the thought that at least she will be reunited with Thane in the end.

I felt thanes romance with fem shep, was just so raw but real in a way that really makes you feel like thane changed so much. But also gave shepards character more depth and made you feel like thane and fem shep were ment to wind up together. Thane deserved a better send-off in ME 3. This romance is still one of the best

I hate, with a fiery burning passion, that BioWare sold their souls to EA for marketing/distribution/whatever purposes, and now most of their non-game design people are just money grubbing cash whores...but the story tellers...they are still the greatest kings and queens of RPG awesomeness that have ever been. Between the sheer, story-telling, feels invoking genius that is this montage, the Charr/Ereba gut ripper, and the deaths of Mordin and Legion...It's almost...**almost* enough to make me forgive them for the ending. I utterly despise the *'which instagram filter will you apply over the ending'* ending of ME3, but BioWare still have enough RPG cred to retain my loyalty enough to make me eager to buy ME4...I just hope they dont disappoint me again.

Reese R Interesting opinion. I love both for different reasons. For pure story it's bioware 100% CDprojektred sadly has shown a history of making games with altering decisions but little to no lasting impact. For the worlds I give it to the author of Witcher, such an amazing world. For combat and openish world CD wins.
