There's a sort of tragic story for Fem-Shep here. Romancing Thane is but a tragedy in love. You fight so hard and fall in love with a doomed man who have seen his death time and again. You believe that he saw wrong but in the end, he still dies. Fem-Shep is left alone with rage and vengeance for Thane. Hell, the fact Thane's spirit motivates you in your last voyage just hits hard. Perhaps the only acceptable time for Fem-Shep to die if you romance Thane. As you fight to your last breath and join him at the shore...

The issue I have with the destroy ending, in general, is that it feels as though a lot is wasted. Like it is supposed to destroy all non-organic life which means Joker can never be with EDI and Legions sacrifice was worthless. All things considered, that is the reason why I usually stray from the destroy ending and typically choose the Synthesise ending.

Still find synthesis better though. regarding background (organics vs synthetics, destroying synth just makes another cycle start where organics will make new synths which will want to kill them eventually, whereas synthesis makes them understand each other and offer a path to peace, like geth and quarians), plus EDI and Joker (seriously I ship them hard), and regarding Thane also. I mean, she says it when he dies "You will not be alone long", to me it means that like he died when his wife died, Shepard's ready to die and join him. So synthesis : immediate death, bringing a light in the darkness. Just like Thane. Now if you excuse me I have a few ninjas cutting onions to chase from my home.

The death scene never fails to sadden me, no matter how many times I watch it. Shepard's speech during his wake, and how her voice breaks ever so slightly (especially Kolyat's), always gets to me. Thane was my first ME romance, and although I find myself falling for a lot of the other LI's and squad mates, he will always have the most special place in my heart.

Funny, but you actually couldn't make illusive man kill himself because in the dialog, when you talk to him on thessia, the paragon/renegade options are swapped! paragon line gives you renegade point and vice versa. so if ur playing paragon, you should choose renegade line there. dunno if it's a bug or intentional

In ME3, Charisma is Paragon + Renegade + Reputation. Your Paragon/Renegade ratio only matters for personality alignment, not Charm or Intimidate checks.

When FemShep says "I still love him for it" her voice breaks. Jennifer Hale gave such a great performance, you could hear the heartbreak in her voice. It didn't matter that the face animations weren't advanced enough to show emotions beyond smile and frown, her emotions shone through in her words. It's a surprisingly rare talent even in the acting community. The poignant writing certainly helped too. Thane's was such a bittersweet romance. At once heartbreaking and life-affirming. It stands as one of the most moving pieces of storytelling I've ever encountered. A perfect example of how far video games have come as a storytelling medium deserving of respect.

You know, I've never played a fem-Shep to full term, so I never romanced any of the male LI's. Like many I was a Tali guy, though over the years I have, rather surprisingly, shifted more towards the Jack romance, partly for it's complexity and partly because it's a great fit for my often full-renegade male-Shep. I always assumed that if I played fem-Shep I would go for the Garrus romance, the guy is such a loveable dudebro! And then I saw the Thane romance...... Holy.Crap. It became hands down my FAVORITE romance out of ALL of them, male or fem-Shep alike! The writing, the intensity, the tragedy of it all, so powerful and emotionally intensive! It has been the only romance that has bought me to tears, the ONLY ONE that has me revisiting it through these videos over and over, again and again. I always underestimated it, and now I can't overstate the praise I have for it. Best romance in the entire franchise.

Even thou Thane wasn't one of my top choices for romances in ME series, I have to admit that this scene gives the ending deeper meaning and in some way a satisfactory ending for Shepard. Instead of being pissed off at the end by spending all this time playing the games and than just toss all the choices and relationships aside, thx to this scene the ending made me feel like Fem Shep. can finally be at peace with the person she loved (even if it was for a short time) and made the ending partialy worth something.

But Thane has crushed me and reduced me to tears. He is a man with a troubling story, who knows what he wants. Still he has his vulnurable moments and it's in those moments I want to hug my pc and hope I somehow manage to comfort an imaginary character!
