Mass Effect Legendary Edition (PC, PS4, Xbox One, PS5, Series X) is here and it does a lot to make the sci-fi RPG trilogy worth revisiting. Here's what I love about the remaster and the series in general. #MassEffectRemastered #MassEffectLegendaryEdition

Mass Effect has always been a bright spot for me even during the darkest times of my life. Back in middle school, I got bullied a lot and didn't have a lot of friends so these games were kind of an escapism. These characters were legitimately my best friends at the time and Paragon Shep definitely played a huge part in the man I've become today. And today, as a 23-year old, I've had to deal with very real, adult problems in life and just when everything is finally starting to get better, in comes ME:LE like an old friend; a perfect cherry on top to remind everyone that there is good in the world. Glad to see all this revitalized ME love! Jake, all these series veterans, and even you folks who are about to experience the trilogy for the very first time... we all have a very, very special experience to share. :)

10000% exactly same here brother. I was bullied in middle school and at the same time my parents were getting divorced. Mass Effect 1 and ESPECIALLY Mass Effect 2 were there in my life when I needed them the most. In fact, i'd go out of a whim and say ME2 saved my life. I pre-ordered the trilogy on PS5 just to give thanks to Bioware when I needed the ME series the most.

Omg! ME makes me laugh, makes me cry. It send shivers down my spine and goosebumps on my skin. I feel joy and excitment and dread and fear. All these feelings go in every single playthrough of ME, for me. I have played ME1 and 2 over and over again, but I never finished ME3. Because I put so much of myself into these phenomenal games, I hated watching team mates die because I hadnt made the right choices in the previous 2 games. I hated that the child died at the start. I hated the death and destruction. I found it so hard to enjoy ME3 when it brought so much real life war pain into the game series. I just couldnt deal with losing these people that I had come to love like family. I have got to the lasr couple of missions on ME2 Legendary and I have been trying to psych myself up for ME3. Im finding it so hard. I am hoping i have made all the right choices, but I know there are 1 or 2 characters who will inevitably die and it brings tears just knowing that, even before I play. Mass Effect is not a game to be played, its an experience to be lived. Long live Mass Effect, Commander Shepard and all members of the Normandy crew.

The one thing that really sold me on mass effect that I loved was those moments where you’re on the ship, talking to your crew mates. It’s kind of quiet, and you just get that aura of flying through space. It’s beautiful. This character is telling you important things about themselves. It felt so intimate. Nothing has lived up to the ME trilogy for me since I finished it in 2012. Nothing has engrossed me in such a way. So since about 2014 all I’ve wanted was a ME trilogy remaster. (And new games about 007 and Indiana Jones) And by goly we finally made it.

My favorite thing about Mass Effect is how I personally discovered it. I was a pretty isolated kid so I didn't follow video game news until around 2012 when I turned 18. I mostly just grabbed a random cool looking game off the shelf whenever I was allowed to. So one day in like 2009ish I stumbled upon this little Platinum hits Xbox 360 title in the bargain bin called Mass Effect, and I thought the armor and the aliens on the front looked so cool. Basically for me finding Mass Effect was like falling in love with a "hidden gem" game only to find out a couple years later that it's not a hidden gem at all, and there's a huge fan base, and there are 2 massive sequels. That was a magic moment for me.

I’ll never forget. My first experience with this franchise was the demo for Mass Effect 2. I played thru that and was instantly hooked. I went the following day to buy it from GameStop, and the guy working asked if I played thru the 1st one. I told him I hadn’t and he highly recommended it. His words “the gameplay might throw it off for you at first, but the lore and the characters are worth the play.” I was hesitant but I bought the 1st one instead. And he wasn’t wrong, the gameplay had me doubting my decision, but then one night everything just clicked. I fell in love with the dialogue between characters as your party grew and grew. I loved learning about the universe at the same time that Shepard does, and I loved finding out the importance of your mission as you gather more and more information. I can’t wait to play thru these games again ❤️.

An absolute all time classic! I went in with tempered expectations and fully expected ME not to be able to live up to the almost ridiculous levels of hype built around it but it totally did! It even exceeded my expectations! I was pretty much spoiler free too other than knowing lots of people didn’t like the way it ended. I’m in a total post Mass Effect funk now! Nice vid Jake. I really enjoy watching others who appreciate the games I like. I came to the series about 2014. Having no experience with shooters (other than Metroid Prime), or RPG's (other than Dragon Quest VIII) I found no real issues with ME1. The journey was absolutely amazing and immensely memorable. I deleted all the games from Origin, I've finished the preload, so now I'm waiting to get the day one patch. Kind of embarrassing, but I'm a 57 yr old who's feeling like a kid on Christmas eve

I love mass effect so much. I always wanted to be a space faring hero/astronaut growing up and this game gave me the opportunity to do that. Plus I always loved the choose your own adventure books so to have that type of agency in a game in your own personal space epic trilogy is/was an unmatched experience. Side note I love the channel man. You were one of my first KZbin subscriptions and I’m here to stay.

I love the trilogy as a whole and I finally decided to pic it up yesterday to play through the games again. The one scene that really stuck with me through out the entire series was the scene in ME3 where Shepard and Garrus were on a platform having a shooting contest. For some reason, that scene made me appreciate the level of work that went into all of the games. That really could have just been another cut scene but I was so emotionally invested in it.

It's hard to encapsulate what I love about Mass Effect into a single moment. It's a grand space opera where you play as the star. I guess the best I can do is describe it with one word, EPIC! You are a freaking spectere! The first human one in history, on a journey to save the world and your choices really do shape the world that you play through. I absolutely love it!

Mass Effect 1 may be "rough around the edges", but it is the most genuine RPG of the three. What I think people usually mean with "rough around the edges" is less STREAMLINED. In either case, replaying these games really hits home on how much the quality of AAA games have deteriorated lately.

As a series Veteran that plays the trilogy yearly, I'm enjoying the Legendary Edition. ME1 has been improved a lot and I'm taking my time with it. ME2 definitely is my favourite game in the series because of how it puts more of a focus on building relationships with your squad before you go do this crazy suicide mission (which the suicide mission by itself is still really awesome). I also still think that ME3 is a pretty awesome game bar the final 20 minutes. As for favourite moment, that's a tough one. I usually romance Liara so I'll say either the romanced version of the conversation you have with Liara aboard the Normandy after the LoTSB DLC pre-suicide mission completion or the romance scene in ME3. Both tug at those heartstrings and I enjoy them for doing that. For me, the romance scene in ME3 is also great because it's a culmination of everything you and Liara have been through throughout the trilogy. If I'm going non-romance related, it's definitely re-uniting with Garrus in ME2 and ME3. Garrus, like with the vast majority of players, is my boi and reuniting with him is always awesome. He's also always made my squad in the trilogy.

Not sure if anyone will ever read this, but my favorite ever moment in Mass Effect was *SPOILERS* : In the Citadel DLC in ME3 how wholesome everything was at the end, every character having the time of their life. Everyone talking to each other and messing around, the group photo at the end, it felt like actual friends interacting with each other, people getting drunk and just having a laugh... and a few moments later during the fight on Earth, Shepard dying to save everyone, it just breaks my heart. Seeing the crew mourn Shepard and then putting "Commander Shepard" with "Anderson" on the memorial wall is just one of the saddest moments in gaming for me personally. Ignoring how bad the ending was, simply the fact that Shepard dies after everything he's done is just heartbreaking.

The Mass Effect series means so much to me. It's essentially my happy place when I am feeling pretty down and that's all due to the fantastic characters. The character drama is what makes this series so damn good. I envy anyone who is playing this series for the first time. It's such an engrossing and emotional experience, especially when you get to the final installment. By the way, Garrus has always been my favorite character in the entire series. He's always in my squad throughout the trilogy. He's such a badass and always has your back no matter what.

Me and my buddy played all 3 of them in a room together on seperate screens. I'm sitting on the floor rocking the turtle beaches on the 360 to paint the picture. When my buddy got to the big decision in ME3, Quarian/Geth fate he literally wouldn't speak to me for several weeks. Wouldn't utter a word because he wasn't sure if he made the right choice or not. I've never seen a game have that heavy of an effect on someone. Legendary!

The world building that this game has is what made me put the stamp of Game Of My Life on it. The imagination that managed to bring us this world and the detail behind it and all the alien species. and the writing in ME1 is just superb. It is really hard for a game to build such a big world and story, with great cinematography and yet keeping it engaging as a videogame(something I find a lot of story driven games forget they are). Thanks for the vids!

The thing that really drew me in was the lore. The gameplay, plot and characterization were always great, but when you can sit back and have the narrator read all the information about the galaxy, it added so much more depth to everything for me. Bioware pretty meticulously went over all the aspects they could think of and it's packaged really well. I used to play the hell out of ME2 and take food breaks just listening to all the lore lol

I saved Ashley, and the whole sequence brought me to tears and I can still feel the void of being down a squad mate.

I loved Mass Effect because it was my Star Trek. I never really got into Star Trek, despite my Dad loving it. But when I played Mass Effect I realised why Star Trek was such a big deal. Being the captain of a ship and getting to know your alien crew members. Finding out about their past and then going on a personal mission with them, or just learning about their culture. The world building, the possibilities of the future. Dealing with alien terrorists, finding diplomatic solutions. The first game in particular feels very episodic. Once you leave the citadel the game really opens up and each planet feels like an episode of Star Trek. Novaria, Ferros, Virmire. Can't wait to dive back into this world

I played mass effect after back surgery. I went to GameStop all messed up on pain killers. My wife drove. I bought like 5-6 games because I was going to be off work for 6-8 weeks. The guy behind the counter recommended Mass Effect so I bought it used and since 2 was next to it I grabbed it. I remember years earlier seeing some interview about how next level and game changing it was. I also grabbed a NFS, Tencho, and Sniper ghost warrior. I know right. The first game blew me away I never played an RPG other then adventure on Atari. It was awesome but heavy so I think I played The Sniper game next. Played mass effect 2 and got Jack killed and then in the final mission I got Tahli, Garris, and Samara killed. This was in November 2011. So with that done I moved ahead to SKYRIM. One night after dinner I was watching TV and Mass Effect 3 commercial ran. I was like oh cool those games were fun. Oh yeah I never went back to work. So for my birthday I received mass effect 3. So after getting my fill of Skyrim I decided to play ME1 and 2 to refresh and save the crew I killed in the last run through. And that’s all she wrote. Played 2 like 3 more times with different Shepard’s.until i sav d the entire crew. Should’ve KZbin’d it earlier lol. So now it’s mid summer and I play Mass Effect 3. Now I heard people were pissed about the ending but I didn’t really know why. The minute I finished I loaded up a different Shepard. And played it all over again. I believe I have 4 male and 4 female Shepard’s all who made different decisions. So I was amazed at all the different scenarios they made. Fem Shep with Liara in my opinion the best run through. The banter between the 2 in Lair of the shadow broker is hilarious. Their argument when they are being chased by the Asari Spector at the sex resort Azure it was so cute. When I played Male Shep it was Garris, Thane, and Zied. Fem shep had the pms express Miranda, liara and Subject Zero. Yeah good times. Too bad I had to break my back to find out. Would have never played it otherwise

Dude youve literally described everything I loved about this series, I loved playing them originally and to experience this awesome story again ❤️ Honestly, my one moment would be when I started exploring the codex I guess? Like, the amount of detail it goes into, you can learn so much, I used to sit and listen to that guy narrate all of them and completely absorbed it. You hit the nail on the head, the world building achieved here, especially with the different races, it really does make it feel real. I'm still only halfway through 1, and it feels like the first time playing - 11/10 ❤️❤️

So I started playing Mass Effect Legendary Edition a little over a year ago. It was my first time with the franchise and when I finished my first play through of all three games I knew it was in my top five favorite game franchises. These games are unbelievably good, my favorite actually being Mass Effect 3, simply for being home to so many big moments for the story and most of my top favorite moments with Mass Effect as a whole. In my first play through I romanced Tali, and she easily became my favorite character. I’d actually say my favorite moment is part of the Tali romance. When (spoiler) you take back the quarrian homeworld and Tali says: “ Whatever happens, I want to be with you” and Shepherd responds: “ I bet you say that to every guy who gets you a home world”. I just love that stuff, it’s so good and I don’t think it gets any more Mass Effect than that, given the full context. Actually, I take back what I said about Tali being my favorite, now that I’m thinking about it Aria T’Loak is hands-down the best character. But I could keep rambling forever so I’m just going to stop. Point is I freaking love Mass Effect.

So on point dude, I couldn't have said it better myself tbh! For my most iconic memory though it definitely has to be the Citadel DLC from ME3, being able to do a party (in your own apartment!) with all your friends and squadmates after going through so much in the last 3 games was a feeling I haven't had replicated again in a game yet. But also the crazy premise that DLC had and the amount of good jokes and humor made it feel like they knew it would be the last DLC for the trilogy and they just decided to fire on all cylinders for it and finish it with a huge bang. 😢

I think everything good in Mass Effect can be described in each mission related to the quarian-geth conflict. It's where all things come together: - 2 of the best squad members (Tali & Legion) - The reason why reapers (main antagonists) exist in the first place is represented by this conflict. - The power of Shepard (the player) to influence the story in a powerful way. It's just beautiful.

The voice over for the journal entries that build up the awesome lore. That blew me away in ME1, I listened to every new entry because they were so cool, and that encouraged me to read the stuff that wasn't voiced, and it all just made the game world feel real. Like it has a history and really spans the milky way.

The unified character creator is definitely a plus. When I imported my Shepard from the original ME1 to ME2, I instantly recognized him: "Yep, that's my Shepard". But when I imported my Shepard from ME2 to ME3, I actually initially didn't recognize him because the character creator was so different. It took me a while to get used to how my Shepard looked in ME3.

For me, the best moments were with just about the ONE main character across all three games you couldn't romance: Captain/Admiral Anderson. He's the first person you hear from when ME1 starts, and he's the last companion to stand with you at the end of ME3. He's our constant, our space-dad, but his personality and our relationship with him evolves over the trilogy. From a stern but caring mentor, to a military peer, to an out-of-his-depth old solider relying on their best and favorite student to save everyone, Anderson's arc is as complex and interesting as Shepherd's own. Maybe more so.

There's too many moments to recount - Thane's loyalty quest, the suicide mission, Grunt's trial on Tuchanka, the final mission on Tuchanka in ME3, Jack in the space prison, the beginning of ME3, of course The Shadow Broker... But I think the one that still has the most emotional weight with me was the Overlord dlc ending. I still get choked up when I hear "the square root of 912.04 is 30.2. It all seemed harmless." Biggest gut punch for me in gaming.

One thing Mass Effect does better than other major sci-fi universes is making you understand and care about the different alien species in the galaxy. I care more about the Asari, Turians, Krogans and Salarians than I do about Hutts, Klingons, Twilek and Neelix cat people. Maybe it's because of the prominent council races and how it explores each of them, plus they fleshed out the lore a lot more.
