One thing you forgot to add was the 0-7 rule on Uno console. Playing a seven forces you to switch hands with someone of your choice and playing a zero rotates everyone’s hands.

That’s how Uno Flip works, and Uno Flip has never been too predictable. Unless you feel like memorizing the reverse sides of every card in the game, I feel this wouldn’t be an issue.

When I was a young lad, my friends and I made a new rule set for Uno, we called it asshole Uno. The rules basically went instead of having the exact same card to jump in on you could jump in as long as it was the same number alone, and you could take cards from other people's hands at any time for no consequence. The rules themselves made the games a lot more fun and chaotic.

The only weird Uno I own is the Minecraft edition. It has a creeper card that functions as a wildcard if you have it in your hand from the beginning, but if you at any point in the game draw a creeper card, you must draw 5 additional cards instead of taking the creeper card (if any of those cards are a creeper, it just acts like a wildcard) which is a horrible rule you absolutely must add.

I dunno, as much as this seems like a good rule for something like this, I honestly prefer to trap my friends in an endless purgatory from which we can never escape, and there's nothing more fun than watching the hope drain from their eyes as they go from one card to 37 through sheer bad luck.

An intriguing start, though I'm compelled to mention that the Ubisoft version of Uno should probably make a reappearance given that, as far as I can tell from the Steam pages, many of its skins actually do introduce new mechanics. (Also, given 3 of the new colors are orange, pink, and purple, I really do think you should make the fourth color teal/cyan rather than gray after all, since then it would be the four colors that Uno Flip adds anyway and be more distinct from black.)

You read my mind! I’m going to talk about this in the next episode but I’ll definitely be revisiting the Console Versions of Uno at some point. It may even get a whole episode! The reason I wanted to mention them early on is because if someone wanted to try this for themselves, the Jump In rule is crucial for a balanced game! Also there’s a reason I included gray over cyan in the Amalgam. In my brief playtesting experience, there were several blue-adjacent colors, and a common issue was people would mistake all of the blues for each other and it was pretty annoying. For this reason I basically eliminated all blue variations for the sake of avoiding confusion. In Uno Flip it isn’t an issue because blue and cyan aren’t in play at the same time. Also, gray exists as a color and I thought it would be better to have more color diversity rather than two blueish colors. I hope that all makes sense!

I also meant to mention, your game design reinterpretation of some of the weirder cards and mechanics felt pretty smart (the bts dance card and the uno attack rules + 10 sided die come to mind). I did have some trouble towards the end with understanding the logistics of the number of cards, their effects, and the relationship with colors, especially once the Flip rules were introduced. For the next video, could you maybe have a visual to show the contents of the deck, if at least at the end? Even a list would be nice.

Great Video! And if you need suggestions for a part two, here's some things you could add: UNO All Wilds has some pretty interesting wild cards, consider some of them. UNO Flex allows a card to be flipped upside down to reveal a new color. It also changes some action cards, making it so that you can fit multiple effects on one card. UNO House Rules has some cards which can have effects stacked further ONTOP of a card, so number cards that have no effects assigned can be given one. UNO Party has a couple unique and interesting cards as well, such as Draw Linking and Point Draw. If you want to further make the game incomprehensible, consider adding some of the cards from DOS Second Edition. Hope these UNO game suggestions help you make this an absolutely insane version of uno!

I have alot of uno games, so it's safe to say i have a lot of ideas.. i also thought of TEN more things for you: Newer versions of UNO have a Shuffle hands card, which basically equalizes everyone's hand. Although it's only one card, it can change a lot! Many versions of branded uno will come with a special card, and only some are unique, so keep your eyes peeled!! DOS enforces a double discard pile rule, which is used for adding numbers together. If combined with this game, it can become much more confusing... perfect! Online versions of uno have EVEN MORE cards... even ones that don't even exist irl! As for the D10, it's a bit predictable when it goes off.. try rolling the d10, and if it lands on 1 or 10 (0), then roll to determine how many cards. This means rolling the die gives you an 80% chance of being safe, with a 20% of drawing cards. If you want to cause more humiliation for your friends, write some of the suggestions that uno gives you for the custom cards, ie. cluck like a chicken.. Online uno also has extra rules that can be enforced for each game.. stacking is actually one of them! So is 7-0, draw to match, no challenges, jump in, forced play, and some others. ONO 99 is an UNO spinoff that is.. interesting. There's a new player play twice card, and there's -10 and 99 point cards... do with that what you will I also have a fully customized uno deck of my own, and it has 8 customized wilds! Everyone draw 2, target draw 4, uno breaker (everyone, including you, who has less than five cards draws back up to five cards), everyone sees a player's hand, wild discard color, and some repeats of ones you already have. Why not add the uno triple play device, because what's better than two discard piles? THREE.. and you can't even play on all of them at once wow, that was a mouthful, but you probably have enough material for a part two now.. lol

In Brazil we have some special house rules for some of the numbers cards wich are quite common . On the number 9 everyone has place their hand (as aggersively as they want) on the top card of the pile, the last one to do so draws 2 cards. On the number 7 everyone has to shut up, every time someone speaks while the number 7 is on the top of the pile that person is dealt 2 cards (not a very popular one at parties). 0 changes hands with someone of your choice, if you want to. Also "Jump In" is very popular here since way before the online version existed. (Side note, at the uni I go to there is a Uno almagamation in the student's lounge where there must be at least 5 copies of uno mixed with random cards missing so you never know how many of a particular number there is and it even has some of the blank uno cards where you are supposed to write whatever rule you want, and the rule written is "Everyone with Uno draws 10", usually you play it with all the optional and house rules, including the "if you don't have a card to play, you have to draw until you find a playable card", it's fun and very caotic)

Just something of note that you could choose to or not to incorporate into the final version: in Uno flip, the "light" side of the cards (red, yellow, green, and blue) is is more kind and gentle, featuring only the base game cards, the plus ones, and the wild draw twos. The "dark" side, (purple, orange, pink, and teal) is significantly more cruel, and is home to all of the plus fives, skip all cards, and wild draw color cards. I feel like this mechanic could tie in quite nicely with your game, as the added cards range in levels of absurdity. Additionally, having all of the cards even distributed on both side as you suggested completely nullifies the flipping mechanic, as the gameplay doesn't change at all depending what side you are on if the cards are the same either way.

You’ve done your homework! While it is true one side of the cards are more cruel in base Uno Flip, I think the added chaos of allowing everything to happen at any time adds to the experience that will be the complete Amalgam. If you don’t have your sides labeled, you don’t have to worry about making sure all of your cards are facing the right way when shuffling and putting the game away which is always nice. These cards are going to be busy enough in the art department as is after all! The Flip mechanic isn’t completely nullified either, as the back of the cards of Uno Flip are basically randomized compared to the front side of the cards. If someone uses the Flip symbol, your hand will completely change! I appreciate the thought you put into the comment! I’ll definitely keep it things like this in mind in the future!

For UNO flip: • The "back side" cards are the other 4 colors from the other versions of UNO, you either stick with that or go 16 colors. • I think you flip everything, including the discard and deck.

You’re absolutely right about all of that! I intentionally left out the exclusive colors on each side for several reasons. 1. It gives me more cards to worth with. 2. It makes the game more chaotic by having every color active at once. 3. It prevents you from having to make sure every card is facing the right way all the time when you’re putting the game away which is always nice. I just kept the action of the symbol rather than every game mechanic from Uno Flip if that makes sense. Because I did this, there’s no need to flip the draw pile or discard piles either, so that’s even less work on the player’s part! :)

Here, I've got an interesting one for you. You've already covered "UNO Flip!" but there's actually another version of UNO with the same name, the Target Exclusive 2009 "UNO Flip" which I used to play all the time. The main gimmick with it was using a small catapult to flip a little rubber character onto another player's "crash pad" whenever playing a flip card, and the reward for landing that flip would be giving one of your cards to the player whose crash pad you landed on. I feel like this mechanic would be a pretty cool addition, considering even without official hardware, you could effectively emulate it with a spoon, some plates, and pretty much anything that weighs roughly as much as a dollar coin, but I also feel like it could fit under the category of BUGs, so I could get why you wouldn't use it. Also, it's very unexpected to find out that UNO has a scoring system, something that in all my years of playing I never knew. I think it would be rather humorous of you to shake things up and add different point values to every single new card you add, just so that the very few people that care to actually follow that convention now have the added fun of having to do even MORE math. Just a little extra spice when everyone thought it was over.

SO! I have a friend, who has been steadily adding decks together for the past 3 years now, and every so often our friend group gets together to play what we lovingly[and hatingly]call Hell Uno It's SO large, that shuffling it is an active pain, and we even have random Blank Card custom rules. We also have a house rule. Instead of reshuffling the deck, we take the discard pile, and set it aside, and just KEEP GOING We can get 6-10 rounds in before the game is unwinnable, and it's AMAZING There WERE some custom things we had to do, like for the Stranger Things cards, we had to add Waffles to a proportionate number of cards, so that they would actually, y'know, exist at a normal rate. Then we had ONE card, that is the absolute WORST. One of the "Draw til Waffle" cards? It landed on a "wild draw til color" card. Which we decided. YES THIS SHOULD STACK

Me and my friends love to play "Magic Uno", a tabletop simulator steam workshop game. The basis is that it has multiple different types of uno you can play with, but just like your project adds the "magic uno" titular game mode. this version simply adds all the special cards from the uno version that are in the workshop mod. No core mechanic changing ones like flip or any that include a "BUG", but a LOT of powerful ones like "kill Kenny" making you draw until you get a normal 4, or creeper that makes everyone draw 3. You also have the special cards from harry potter, raymen, Just Dance and a "normal looking" uno that adds "No U" and "communism". While there are a lot of powerful day-ruining cards (Kenny can make you draw 1 card or even 53), the existence of the other powerful cards tends to balance it out (in those 53 cards, you tend to draw a solution. A player has 1 card left that can stack on card draws? play a creeper, he HAS to draw). I would suggest giving it a look for operation or even just having a taste of how fun your project can be if the cards balance each other well.

There is a Version of Uno (or any game) I really enjoy. I call it Houserules Uno. Play a round of Uno and the winner invents a rule. Some fun rules include: 0 can be played on all colors(like wildcard but without choosing a color) Any +x can be stacked, even +4 You need to drink a shot to play +4 You play again after playing a 1(if you can't, draw, even if 1 is your last card) 6: switch 6 cards with the next player (if they have less, they still get 6 from you and you get all their cards) After every round, 1 rule selected by the looser can be voted out. There can be some metarules set at the beginning of the game to limit what can be a valid rule (for example if you dont want the game to turn into a drinking game)

There are a couple cards that you could add from the Console Version too; specifically from the DLCs Rayman DLC: -Magician Card (or whatever it’s called): A card that hides the amount of cards the person playing it has, while also making a person of their choosing show their hand -Duplicate Card: A card that acts exactly like the one that’s on the top of the deck -Shuffle Card: A card that forces everyone to put their cards into a mini deck, have it shuffled, then passed around randomly -Reflect Card: A card that, upon the holder being hit with a plus card, can be played to reflect the damage back to a person, doubling the damage to them Rabbids DLC: -Fast Card: Play it to make everyone’s turn only 3 seconds long. If you fail to play a card in that time, you have to draw -Explosion Card: Adds a (figurative) explosion to the deck. If someone draws, they get +4’d -Deflect: Similar to reflect, only doesn’t double the damage and instead sends it to the next person instead of the previous Just Dance DLC: -The swap hands to the person across from you is back, but forces everyone to partake -Alien Card: A card is placed into everyone’s hand that will act like any random card (could be +5, could be a skip everyone, etc.) -Even Card: Everyone randomly discards cards until they match the amount of the lowest card count of the group (so say someone has like 3 cards and someone else plays it, not everyone needs to discard until they have 3 cards)

I can see this working. I made a Uno combo out of Uno, Dos, & Flip, I call it UNO ULTRA! You have to follow the rules of each one and so far, it's working well. You can add two cards of matching color to add up to any number, using the Dos wild#, you can set the number to 19 to block anyone from placing a number and have to use the corresponding color. Once the Flip card is played, you flip the Uno Flips and the Dos cards, now the Dos cards are disabled and so are the adding mechanics, whatever Dos cards are in your hand are now locked too. Keep playing until you find another flip card or if no one has anymore flip or uno cards, flip back to original state! I have no clue if that made any sense, but it's what I got and it's fun, I just have to snap a few bowls to focus enough to keep track LOL!

yooo i love playing uno by combining multiple uno decks, used to play with a custom deck that had several decks worth of draw 2's/reverses/skips, etc. on top of that, we used house rules that lets you actively counter reverses by playing another reverse, draw cards stacking additively, and using skips or reverses to force someone else to draw used to with that deck a lot and it's so much chaos

The Monster High Uno set had the Creeperific Urrrhhh Card Which is a card that works like the discard all of one colour, Except it's wild, so you can choose one of the (4) colours And instead of discarding you distribute the cards evenly amongst the players. Edit: It's named Creeperific Urrrhhh Card because you're supposed to hand out the cards 1 by 1 and make zombie noises the entire time.

Cool game idea, I'm in. One thing though - as an UNO attack lover, I feel like the substitutions for UNO attack are a bit too deterministic. That is, while in this version you can predict exactly when it you'll get shot, the original UNO attack you could go shot multiple times in a row, and no press is free. So let's replicate that. Let's keep the D10, but starting on a random value. Let's call it "the doom die". Instead of pressing the button, you play against the doom die. To do so you: * Roll a separate D10, and if your roll is less than the current value of the doom die, you lose the roll. You roll your die. You draw that many cards and then roll the doom die to determine its new starting value. * Otherwise, you win and you increase the value on the doom die by 2. If not possible (9 or 10), you increase the value on the doom die by as much as possible (set it to 10). This solves the determinism problem as you can never be 100% certain whether a play against the doom die will cause you to draw or not, and allows for things like "press twice" to still possibly cause you to draw twice, and for "everybody press" to possibly cause multiple people to draw.

Have you heard of Uno Spin? I don't know how you would incorporate the Spin cards without the spinner itself, but "it would be so awesome, it would be so cool." Also, Uno Triple Play has three separate discard piles, and everytime someone plays a card, a timer goes down on the discard pile they played it on by one, until it hits zero, and the person who made it hit zero has to draw (I don't remember how many cards it was, I haven't played it since last Christmas). Again, not sure how you could incorporate that one either. I would also suggest Uno Blitzo, except that's not a card variant, rather a bullshit electronic "game device" that is super rigged.
