There are many sheet draping and folding techniques to learn from. Hopefully you will pick up a few new techniques on how to properly drape your clients in this video, as well as how to fold those awkward fitted sheets. Especially with new clients, knowing how to properly drape helps you earn their respect and they may become a regular client.
**This video is for instructional purposes only.

i was taught to always have the client roll towards me, as you dont want them to roll off the table. By rolling towards you, you can control how far they roll towards the edge. As a male massage therapist, I have had a few female clients who remain completely dressed during the massage. I tell them that is fine, and I will work with whatever they are comfortable with, on the other hand I have come in to the room with a client not covered at all with the top sheet. I always remind them that it is there for their comfort, should they wish to use it. I am comfortable either way.

Richard Davis-Minter whatever works for you is good. We all have different approaches. In 31yrs I’ve never had a client roll off table😂. Thank God. I know what you mean about walking in to clients not draped! Or fully dressed. I will not allow anyone to be nude on the table without being draped. Some prefer a towel & I’m glad to use that too. I just find the sheets easier to work with because I do a lot of specific work & use sideline a lot. You can’t sideline with a towel! Thanks for your comment

The way how you manage sheet makes your client feel more comfortable and safe, meanwhile, convenient for a good manage practice. Get a bolster for arms, pillow for head, wedge for back and cervical tower ready for different clients/different positions. Thanks Maria for the good advice. Oh man, it is crazy how different people learn haha. There is no drape we don't tuck or else it could move, and we were taught never ever ever to have the client roll away from us, because then we aren't there to stop them from rolling over the table if they go too far, we also have to hold the sheets for them - so they could never come off while rolling. Just food for thought! especially if you are working with an elderly person or pregnant person-you don't want them falling off the table
@MassageTherapeutics915

I appreciate the feedback! You’re correct in that we all teach differently. In 33 years I’ve never had anyone roll or fall off the table🤣. However with my elderly clients I do have them roll towards me so they can feel more secure. This is good when we can exchange ideas!

Thank you for your compliment. Most of my clients undress completely because I do a lot of specific work. Especially on the low back. In my intake interview I explain what I will be doing & give them the option to undress completely or leave their underwear on. It’s up to them. This video shows how to drape on all positions and you can always tuck in the sheet to make them feel comfortable. As long as you’re comfortable they will pick up on that too and relax. Reassuring a nervous client helps. I have not had many issues with this throughout my practice. Good luck

sari taylor Thank you for the compliment. I just explain the Physiology of how muscles heal. That they heal on their own & we assist them by increasing the blood flow to the area. Blood flow brings nutrients & oxygen to the muscles so it’s like food for the muscles. If a muscle has been ischemic (lack of blood flow) for a while it takes time for it to heal itself. As massage therapist we assist the body to heal itself. I hope this helps you. I also tell them “you didn’t get like this overnight”. Healing is a process.

Isnt draping just a waste of time? All you need are two towels to cover the chest and the private area. I dont even like when im covered in bed, let alone at a therapist, feels very restricting and messy. I tell my clients that i do a much better work without the covering sheet..they literally dont care about it - just do your job well.

Ludwig Vonn we all have different preferences for draping. When I first started massage 31yrs ago I used to use large beach towels however that was for straight up Swedish massage. As I grew & learned specific modalities I started stretching & doing specific work. Using sideline for rotator cuff injuries or hip it’s difficult to drape property. Not everyone is as carefree. There’s still a lot of people that are modest and don’t feel comfortable being exposed. I find that men are more comfortable since most of them grew up with locker room or military backgrounds. I find that The towels are bulky to drape with & it’s very difficult to do good stretches when using towels. Thanks for sharing your points of view

@@MassageTherapeutics915 Locker room or military background, that is a very good point, i am both of those, so it probably affects my point of view.
