It's terrible advice. Infantilizing to your partner. Listening to venting and indulging minor irrationalities is one thing, but this is about Cuddy not trusting House to be faithful to her. That's a serious problem. This is Wilson demonstrating his compulsive need to be, and be seen to be, the caregiver in all his relationships. He treats his partners like children, and children he constantly indulges, at that. In fact, he treat his partners like he treats his cancer patients, and that's not healthy. Partners are supposed to be partners, and the doctor/patient relationship very much has most of the power on one side.

Literal worst advice you could give someone. Getting a hooker for a massage therapist is wrong, but enabling your partner's behavioral problem is wrong too. It's time people stop accepting and enabling terrible personality problems. Especially this BS boomer mentality of "The wife is always right!" Also Timbone, that's literally what House did in the episode. Did you even watch it?

And that statement, as well as the reactions of 186 people to it, is all the evidence I need that I am missing absolutely nothing by staying single. It probably would have if they were two real people in real life. The writers needed to keep up the rating, didn't want to take a chance, blew up the whole thing with silly-to-crazy plots like everybody-get-cancer in their 40s theme, etc. Then they cut Cuddy's character salary but didn't cut House's character salary, which force an exit of a Cuddy's character out (a character that made the show more interesting and one that captured majority of female audieunces.)

You know, assuming he’s telling the truth about the hooker being the best massage therapist he could find, he has a point. Anyone with a serious chronic medical condition can tell you, when you find a good physical therapist or specialist, you don’t give them up unless you have to. Would Cuddy still have a problem if she were a professional masseuse or physical therapist that used to have a relationship with House?
@theatog
@theatog 3 жыл бұрын
Want to chime in on this. I have had many massages from both therapists and from Channel Similar to House's. I never understood why most professional therapist rarely left me satisfied (and I'm not talking about "happy ending"). Don't get me wrong, I have had plenty horrible massages from "CStH" too. Until one time this other guy explained to me... Massage takes some energy and effort. If you know how to do it, it will be easier but still take a toll no matter how good you are. RMT's usually have clients right before or after you so they can't really go "all-in" on you. They are there to do their job, not to please you. Most RMT i know, no matter how horrible they are, never stop getting clients. Where as CStH don't usually go through clients like a conveyor belt. If they know what they are doing, they can really invest great deal of energy and effort. And their goal is to please. And if you are a good customer, they would like you to come back. That's the difference. One is a care-giver (think nanny?) and the other is a service.

I don't get it. Why is Cuddy uncomfortable with this situation? House was honest about the whole thing. If he lied and Cuddy found out afterwards, I would understand. There clearly wasn't any intimacy between House and the masseuse neither before nor after they started their relationship. Idk I've never been in a relationship and I turn into a wizard in 4 years.

@@michaelccozens That's my point - she knew that before they even started dating. There was a whole conversation about it, where she said that House couldn't change and he said she was right. But she started dating him anyway, only to break up the first time there was a problem. Given the context within the show, it was just bad writing for the Cuddy character.

Honestly, if you don't trust him, you don't trust him, at which point, all you're doing is trying to mold things into something you want, not loving the something you have. He could just as easily lie about seeing her, or anybody else for that matter -- hell, maybe he and the physical therapist start getting it on, and he dumps you for them. The thing that's so painful about relationships is the same thing we love about them. When you trust somebody, you leave yourself vulnerable to getting hurt, but if you *don't* do that, then you end up all shut-up inside. If you really love somebody, then you love them *for* the things they do, not in spite of them. Anything else is just your fear of being alone. Tl;dr, either let him keep seeing the hooker, or admit that you don't feel that intimate level of trust with him, because you don't *actually* have any real control over other people, and acting like you do doesn't seal the love, it just tosses the hope.

I find Cuddy suggesting House is unable to have a serious relationship to be silly. The man was married to their hospital's lawyer for 5 years. Does he enjoy being juvenile? Sure, but barring the incident that made House, and Stacy divorce, it had to be serious at one point to last that long.

I'm sorry, but I think the whole character of Cuddy was bullshit from the very beginning. When *she* wanted something completely off the wall and crazy, she did it and no one judged her. *Every* *single* *time* House did the exact same thing, it was a detailed character study of how somehow he was a horrible person to be avoided. No different than the episode where he thought she might die from cancer and the stress pushed him back to vicodin. He cared so damn much for her that the thought she might die was simply too much to take without a crutch. You can say that makes him weak (I don't, but I wouldn't argue with someone show said he was) but she used it as an excuse to cut him off like a wart on her ass.

Ehh I always hated this part of House MD. Their chemistry was so nice till they became a couple, then Cuddy pretty much became a demanding b***, who couldn't accept House as he is, always tried to change everything about him and used their relationship to blackmail him, and then she broke up with him anyway, because House couldn't change and because he couldn't take the pain of possibly losing her and took 1 Vicodin. She called him unreliable, someone she couldn't lean on, and yet the whole show ended with (Spoilers!) House sacrificing everything, so he could be with Wilson for his last few months.

That's unfair. House as a person isn't reliable for anything emotional. Cuddy is putting her heart on the line for him, but she can't use her daughter to show him that she cares. He needs to earn that. He can be a part of her daughter's life once he shows her that he is beyond petty crap and that he wants it to be serious and last. With his actions and words both. He is in a position to give the relationship his all, and she is giving a lot to, but she can't give her daughter.
