This has become my new favorite ritual. Get up friday, friday being my day off. Wake up to a new video from mr JT, drink my coffee, have a piece of toast. Then go out to my little farm and go play with my own old tractor. Thank you JT, you absolute legend.

From Denmark, When I was a young man in 1972, I was on a farm for 4 years. We drive with a new MF 165, an MF 35, MF 178. We also had a Danish built Tractor a BUKH 403, a 40Hk with 3 Cylinder, a fantastic tractor. It has been many years since Denmark stopped building tractors, we were too small. But there were quite a lot of the BUCK 302/403 and 452 in Denmark in the 1960s and 1970s. And our combine was an MF 87 8ft. One of the most stable combines I knew, never any problems and it harvested 70 hectares = 173 Acres every year.

under the dash and under the tractor, wondering how they did it at the factory: well they had a team of 6. one guy, JT under the dash in a precarious position, 3 standing watching, and 2 out sick! gotta love jobs where you need a helper but they are just in the way! I bought a set of thin angle wrenches and they help, sometimes...often it's regular wrench 1 degree, angle wrench side 1, 1 degree; angle wrench end 2, half degree; flip regular wrench quarter degree; REPEAT; drop wrench! careful with the back, they don't heal and it's the silliest way that you hurt it.

Growing up in the logging and farming business and doing it for over 30 years I've done a bit of working on these old treasures myself. It can sure be a rewarding and enjoyable experience when you approach as you do with that certain attitude. If rust and debris falling in your eyes, ears, and mouth, while at the same time something unknown is crawling down your collar just as your hand slips off a wrench and smashes your knuckles bloody would turn you off from a project then I'd suggest avoiding these machines as much as possible. If you can stick to buying newer stuff with warranty and dealer support. Stay clean and keep your sanity. For those that can though, and I know many still out there can and do, a day like this is all just a party. Most importantly though let's keep as much good old iron as we can out of the recycling. I have nightmares of old cabover Peterbilt's, and C6 Tree Farmers coming back as Kias and Subarus. And for you "eyesore" kind of people, please try hard to keep in mind that old one's man's junk is another man's treasure thing too. Lets not limit this to old machinery either. There are true advantages to some of this old stuff that are not at all related to sentimentality

Thanks for posting this. I enjoyed following along with your progress on the rehab. My recollection is that steering was very responsive on the 1800s, even more so than on the 1805s, but that may have had them juiced because we were running extra-wide flotation tires so that we could work in the rice fields. It is really nice to see the old girl run, even a little.

Hey JT, congrats on getting that big thing moving and steering. My current project had a bad ring gear so I couldn't start it without a tug. My critics couldn't understand why it was important to , first thing, replace the ring gear. I'm with you 100%! If it moves under it's own power everything else is much easier!😊 Years ago I got a good deal on a set of "crows foot" wrenches. I've only ever used them two times but when I pulled the control valve ( bucket) out of my Bobcat, they saved the day. The satisfaction of getting something working again is worth the cold, snow, rain, mud, .....? Sure it is!😊 Thanks

Filters....could be you aren't getting enough flow through the filter for the steering pump. Starving the pump for oil would cause all thar foam also. Just an idea....

, I changed a leaky hose on a jd 4630 steering system that the steering valve needed repair. Started up the tractor and steering won’t work properly. Though that maybe steering valve was still giving issue but turned out the new hose was restricting oil flow, never would have guessed or seen that before . Glad you checked out your hoses. There should be a gpm and pressure output spec for that pump would be first place to start after filter change. Then after that see what’s bypassing or internal leakage

Right on. I believe that is what’s going on here. Seems like it steers good for a few seconds at a time

Old Smokey.. till you get the exhaust leak fixed. I would have done the same thing for that dip stick/filler tube myself... they could have done something like that from the factory. Be careful and looking forward to the next update videos.

My 1805 has a leak from the steering under the hood was hoping it was a hose. I may need to pay attention when you rebuild that valve.

Ah. The 50/50/90 rule strikes again. That is, when there is a 50/50 chance you will 90 percent of the time choose the wrong one.
