I took a chance on an unknown working condition Massey 2200 forklift at an estate auction. Let’s see if I can get it going!

Every once in a while something works out!😊 Years ago I bought an Astro van for $400. The owner said it had a bad motor. At least that's what his mechanic said. He had just had the transmission replaced so it had that going for it. 4.3 V6. He refused to let me start it as he was afraid it would cause more damage in the event I didn't buy it . Gave him his money, hauled it home and after it was off the trailer I figured "what the heck"! I turned the key and she fired right up and was making a tinny rattling sound. Hmmm? As he said he had just replaced the transmission that's where I looked first. The inspection cover looked a little bent so I pulled it off. Started it again and found the noise gone! Drove that van for 4 years before I sold it on. Don't ask about the 2010 equinox I bought that almost caused bankruptcy 😢

Massey industrial equipment was tough as nails. Awesome find. I think one of the biggest problems that Massey has had through the years until recently is really crappy hour meters that are nowhere near accurate to how much time is actually on the machines. This comes from a very long history of operating many, many of them. And I absolutely love my Massey's!! Have a great weekend J.T.

Being an Allis guy, I came across an AC 621 forklift a few years ago for $2500. Similar to yours, based on a tractor (D15 in my case) with a foot and hand forward/reverse system. When I bought it the guys selling it, a golf cart sales place, said it needed a $650 carb and the power steering/hydraulics don't work work. I took the carb apart, everything was loose inside and the fuel hose was falling apart. Tightened up the carb pieces, replaced the fuel hose and it cranked right up. The clutch needs to be out to run the hydraulics, you just use the forward/reverse lever to move back and forth. I'm amazed how many times I use it in a week. I think you will wonder how you got along without one!

LOL good video!! That transmission I bet is somewhat like the old Turnbull 202, 203 or 205 Industrial, been a while since I seen it, at Moms yet, Dad had when he started out in the backhoe business, we used it for finish grading, it has a Perkins 3 cyl diesel in it, and has 3 pedals on the right. Center is the throttle, now here is the part I have trouble with today, the right pedal I think would go forward, and the other would be reverse, why I cant remember is, I have a JD X320 riding lawnmower that is just the OPPOSITE. Oh yeah, after spending hours on the Turnbull I still remember that old girl well!! And almost tore up some shtuff around here in tight places with the X320!!. It was good for finish grading, NOT, with a plow or brush hog, because you had to hold down on the pedal, think about that with a plow or disking a 50 acre field at our homestead, holding that pedal down when your 14!! And the little Perkins, was a fuel sipper, IF you run 10 gallons of fuel through it a day, YOU DONE SOME WORK, now getting it to start below 20 outside and didnt plug in the block heater you might as well forget it, and go back in the house until it had heated up a bit!! I will tell you to RUN, NOT WALK away from a backhoe Massy made in 1969, cant remember the number , Dad bought a BRAND NEW one, BIGGEST POS, ever that sat on the place!! The 4cyl Perkins and trans, we never had a problem with, the loader frames, the dipper stick cracking, and after 4 Cessna hyd pumps replaced under warranty ,that POS got traded off for a New 4500 Ford, we had really good luck with Fords , even they had quirks to.

JT, you deserved a win. Period. Damn nice find. Screamed at the screen, 'bout the pedals, guess y'all was distracted. Sorry Dude. Next time I'll do better. What's her lift cap? Tag on the machine somewhere, if readable. Looks like a 18 to 20 foot lift. Drain the gas, do the carb and points, if applicable, but i can't really see electronic ignition on a Continental? Gas is older, lots of cylinder space causing pressure leakage, engine runs like crap, there's yer problem. Oil change? Yer coming into spring and summer, right? Use 15W40. I use that in my Jeep 4.2 with tooooo much blowby. Engine rebuild ain't in the finances yet. And just fer crap and chuckles, fix the right fender, put a water bottle/can/cup holder on it, and whomever is using the forklift while building the shop will thank you. Now, when can we expect paint?😁
@jtsbarnngrill6873Ай бұрын

The Yellow Peril is a nice forklift, ok it has probs, but I think new plugs and points, new cap and leads, and some new 20/W50 oil and she won't have as much blowbye coming out the breather. Of course when you have your new workshop built you can remove the engine, put new rings, seals and shells in her and she will last for many years. What a nice find!! Forklifts live a terrible life just because they are started up used for a few minutes to lift/move something then shut off. Nobody ever maintains them either i swear. I wouldn't be one bit surprised if it came back around from changing the oil throwing new plugs at it. Before i did plugs and a oil change i would soak the cylinders in seafoam or something I'll bet the rings are all carboned up from never getting to operating temperature. Once you soak the cylinders in something do a oil change I'd go bomb it around the roads give it a workout build some heat keep the rpms up then I'll bet that blow by simmers way down and it runs way better! Id love to see more of this machine
