If anybody finds somewhere to buy the proper strainer for the loader hydraulics, please let me know.

I am in the process of replacing the pump on my 1958 MF 202 with a MF102 Loader. I have the same filter setup, and have seen others exactly like it, so I'm pretty sure this was the factory setup. When I removed and opened the canister I had the same initial thoughts - this can't be right because fluid will pass through the lower holes and the paper (Wix 51010) filter will be by-passed. However, after researching this I believe that the screen / filter configuration is as designed. All fluid enters the canister through the upper side port which is outside of the screen. Then 100% of the fluid will be filtered by the screen. After the fluid passes the screen, some will pass through the lower holes beneath the Wix filter, and some will pass through the Wix filter. This is know as slipstream filtering with the thought that some % (ie 10%) of fluid will be filtered by both media, and eventually after a number of cycles 100% of the fluid will have passed through both filters. This design ensures that the pump won't be starved for fluid if the Wix filter becomes clogged. Look at your old filter (Wix) and see how dirty it is - proof that some fluid is being filtered by both media. When I first changed my Wix filter is was all clogged up with muck. There are pros and cons to installing filters right before the pump, but that is what MF decided to do when these machines were built. I too thought of installing a filter over the lower holes, but I won't do it now. The main concern being that the pump could be starved for fluid (really bad for the pump) or the suction pressure could collapse the filter. There are newer spin on filters and filter mounts that are made for suction side use. If you go this route make sure that you choose something that has high enough flow rates for your pump. I haven't found a suitable replacement pump yet (inventories re way down since covid). When I get the pump I most likely will install the filter canister as it was intended.

I've got the same loader. When I started in on the hydraulics, I just upgraded the filter setup to a modern spin-on unit. With some creative piping, I was able to even put the grill back on and hide it.

I've still not addressed this problem. It's on my to do list.... I really need to take care of it. I'd love a spin on hydraulic filter setup.

Sidetrack, just reading this.. what type or modem did you use? I came into a loader which someone evidently removed the whole filter assembly. Can’t find a whole lot of specs for the suction line.

WELL WELL Finally found some useful info on this filter system. I too have the 202, with 200 loader, and 220 backhoe. This filter system was there, and the previous owner pretty much bubble gummed it in place, although it worked, I am sure it would have fell apart fairly soon. He had no shut off, 3 pieces of old rubber hose, with anything from a plastic 1 inch nipple, to an old piece of 1 inch exhaust pipe to join them in. then the pump was out on a 45 degree angle and wired to the rad support, nipple at bottom needed to be 1 1/2 inch longer to come out enough to clear the side of pump and be at a 90 degree angle again. . So now you get the idea. No strainer, a modern canister type filter with bottom tin tore off to fit over larger piece in bottom, with no spring to keep it in place. Mine looked as if it had been modified on the larger piece, but looks the same as yours. I was even unsure this was even suppose to be there on the suction side of the pump, but now I know. I did go to the local NAPA, and gave them the measurements of holes and max size the filter could be and he came up with a replacement, made a spring that goes on top to keep it down where it is suppose to be. I am not near the shop to give you a number off the new filter. I am unsure if it can even suck the oil through it, as I started it and could not get any hydraulics. Now the problem I am having is the keyway is very sloppy, and I have taken pump off again, and am unsure if key was even engaged. so thinking of taking shaft out and getting it repaired, or replace it. But unsure how the rod/shaft comes out. I should also note it is a new pump.

Sounds like you've got your work cut out for you! I guess I'd better get off my ass and go figure mine out, since I never did anything about it. Converting to a spin on type seems like it would be easier.
@mitchp3502 жыл бұрын
@@wheelinken I agree the switch to the spin on type would be a much better option. Also it could be mounted on the return line that comes out of the backhoe into the loader tank/arm.

@@wheelinken OK Finally have progress, on the filter. NAPA ProSelect 21212 fits and works. I only put washer on the top, to close the gap a bit for a spring that I made out of a bag of springs I bought years ago at Princess auto, probably your equivalent of Harbor Freight.

@@wheelinken Any spring will work as long as it is long enough and big enough for the tube to fit inside it. I actually had to unwind the one I had to make it bigger around, and stretched it.. I remember my mother had curlers for her hair and they had springs in them, that would be perfect.. LOL But that was 50+years ago.

That filter belongs to the power steering, not the main hydraulics. Those 202 tractors have 3 hydraulic systems...the main one for the 3 pt lift and transmission, one for the front bucket, and then the power steering system. The "screen" you mention is the backbone for the filter. It simply supports the actual filter to keep it from coming apart as it does it's job. I inherited mine with the original owners manual and old timer knowledge of it's workings...hope this helps someone out there. They are great tractors.
@wheelinken4 жыл бұрын
Well, thanks for the comment. I assure you I have the correct filter as I got the p/n from the manual and checked with the dealer. The strainer is to keep bigger stuff out of the filter not hold it together... lol. That wix filter definitely would not even fit the power steering. I know what your talking about with the 3pt hydraulics but my machine is not equipped as such.

Hey just curious your running a six 51010 without issue? I wonder if the 51010 will fit in the mesh container as mine is still good hmmm
@wheelinken Жыл бұрын
I am still using the 51010 as hydraulic filter, without strainer. I believe it will fit with the strainer. Not a lot to lose if it doesn't, as the 51010 is also the engine oil filter.

does anyone out there have a part number for a '61 Massey 203 hydraulic filter any three of them. I ordered one and it is a small screened filter about the size of my wix oil filter holes the size of a thumb tack head ,rubber gaskets top and bottom and a fine mesh screen around the entire unit maybe 4" tall 1.5 " diameter thanks for the video
@wheelinken4 жыл бұрын
4x1.5 I think is for the 3pt lift pump. I used the wix 51010 for the loader hydraulics... it's the same as the oil filter for the gassers. Cross referenced the part numbers on agco website. Check the agco website for parts diagrams for your machine. Good luck

Hi I have a 202 MF industrial with a 200 loader and I am looking for one of the bucket cylinders as mine came missing one. In your vid you mention you have a parts machine. Do you have a cylinder you would sell? If so that would be great, if not any leads on one would be super helpful. Thanks in advance. Corey

I actually just swapped one of my bucket cylinders out with a spare, so I'm down to one.... sorry gotta hang onto it or I'll be in the same spot as you lol. Agco dealer could not supply a new strainer. Filter only... so that's what I'm running. Would prefer to have the strainer
@bladerunner63544 жыл бұрын
@@wheelinken well you can try to re-screen the frame of old strainer. If you can mig weld should be fairly easy. I think it is good to have strainer for two reasons, the larger pieces are held back and it may prevent the filter from being sucked in and mis-shaped. Let me know how you make out with it please.
@bladerunner63544 жыл бұрын
When machine is running the suction pulls fluid thru filter. If you can't get exact screen go slightly larger hole in new screen. Smaller than what you have will cause restriction. Always warm up machine before operating too loosen up oil. Warm flows better than cold.
