When I refill my bigger tanks I have one of those gallon jugs of water from the store, with the top cut off and holes poked on the bottom and sides. I binder clip it to the side of the tank and pour the water into that.

Just a suggestion, my kid has a smaller fish tank but we have a pasta strainer we use to pour the new water into the tank with so it doesn't disturb anything in the tank.

Large zip lock bag with a bit of air in it makes a great floating deflector to pour water back into a tank.

But, but you didn't vacuum the sand... I learned ( about 20 years ago) you had to vacuum the sand. Because that was where the " dead matter" was. It was supposed to keep ammonia spikes from happening. Man, stuff does change. I love learning new things

Yes you should absolutely vacuum the sand! I did not because this was a small change just changing the water to keep nitrates down, these guys will build nitrates quickly if you are not on top of it.

Like with all animals: It's complicated. Peacock shrimps are aggressive predators. So they will attack and there's no hesitation within them. But it all depends on the shrimp itself. My friend had a peacock shrimp and it was pretty chill. There were small accidents like when shrimp bonked the glass because my friend's brother tempted it with food (NEVER DO THIS!). Nothing happend but it was scary at times. And it loved to swim out of it's hiding and look at people. But again, it all depends on the shrimp. They're intelligent, like hell...

I've been keeping tarantulas for about 8 years now... and OMG those things are cooler than any spider... How hard is it to go from "oh that's cool I want one" to "check out my new pet mantis shrimp"?
