Fun fact for those who dont know: Pistol Shrimp are one of the loudest sea creatures from their claw that is roughly 200 decibles which is almost louder than Thunder if i remember correctly AND if they're in a group making their noises, it can Mess up sonor technology from how loud they are

The strength of a pistol shrimps snap is actually caused by being so deep under water, the increased pressure at those low levels cause a large bubble that superheats and bursts releasing a lot of energy. Basically if it was a deep sea fight Kaiju would have been shrimp alfredo.

Actually, Mantis shrimp make an even stronger bubble burst after delivering it's 22 caliber like punch. They also have a very durable shell and are the best hunters with the greatest sight in the world. Pistol shrimp gets bodied 10/10

What really crazy is in their natural habitat a lot of them symbiotically live with if I remember a mostly blind fish. Well I know what you'd ask next what does the fish do that the mantis shrimp can't and thats make their den/hole in the ocean floor.

In hindsight, I probably would have left the tanks as they are instead of cutting them down. I’m sure the fish you paired with the mantis shrimps would have appreciated the the extra gallons to swim around in, but I’m also sure at 12 inches they still have adequate room.

Great video series. I lived in West Palm Beach and a great way to find critters is floating seaweed. I would just shake it out in a bucket of water and find a ton of pipe fish, seahorse, crabs, shrimp, starfish, anglers, tiny puffers and other strange creatures. You should make a video about "finding sea creatures in seaweed." Try it. You will be very surprised

I know where you can collect all the pistol shrimp you want for free. I used to find them under rocks in the bay in Sarasota Florida all around the edge. The rocks on the mangrove islands have lots under each rock, up to 3", maybe 3.5".

Yeah one thing I never knew is that both the mantis shrimp and the pistol shrimp can both create a cavitation bubble. I thought it was just the pistol but the mantis can do it too because it has one of the fastest punches in the animal kingdom. Now I don't know if the cavitation bowl is as big as the pistol shrimp or whatever but they're definitely a monster. Mantis shrimps aren't called the thumb splitter shrimp for nothing. By the way the mantis shrimp isn't actually a shrimp.

My father had one from several years, we only heard it use its claw maybe once or twice when we were moving coral around and didn't see him.
