Young man please wear your eye protection, and don’t use pliers for the crucible can break you’re going to have a bad day from there on. Get proper tools for the job.

get some 15mm rebar or similar and make yourself some tongs to remove the crucible from the furnace and another one, once placed down to remove slag with the spoon to pick it up and cast into the mould

You might consider getting a separate crucible for doing different metals. You'll get cross contamination melting copper in it once you've used it to melt aluminum.

10:18 When your gas tank starts to frost up like that, have a container of water large enough that you set the tank in. That will stop the gas in the tank from globing up and irradicably feeding your furnace.

@repentandbelieveinJesusChrist9 Aww, aren't you precious. I'm glad you found a way to get your jollies.

A wire wheel works much better and is faster than grinding the bars. Also find a nice set of tongs to pick up your crucible, the pliers trick has been known to break the side out. Good luck.

It's awesome your doing this. I eventually want to do this when I have a place. But you guys need more correct tools for pulling and pouring your melted material. Awesome job though.

23:35 Pls excuse me but I found this very funny... You just took the time shining up eleven bars but didn't want to deal with weighing them individually which would have taken a fraction the time it took to shine up just one bar. That's a hoot. That was a fine melt btw, I enjoyed watching the entire video. Thanks!

Derek, I get worried when you lift the molten copper with those pliers. Is anything more secure for you to use? What happens if it drops?

Nice job gents. Nice looking bars. 35 lbs is a lot of melting.
@stevenaubin74
@stevenaubin74 Жыл бұрын
Lol, what everyone means by correct tools are mainly some crucible tongs for lifting the crucible out and back in the furnace, a good pair like the ones that come with the devil furnace work perfect for pouring also. Second a piece of half inch rebar works great as a stir stick. 3 feet long works well. Nice pair of stainless kitchen tongs for handling molds, maybe not bars of that weight but smaller ones. And at least safety glasses and boots your shoes won't offer you much defence verses raging metal....... Don't forget your cardboard under crucible and always let you crucible cool down in the furnace. Ain't copper freeking hot!!!
@MeltingMasters

I appreciate it! I personally always wear safety glasses and typically wear boots but could not find them the day we made this video so I took a chance. And yes I agree we need real tongs lol.

It’s great to see young men doing this I started in my 40 ‘ s but I see you love metals *****start buying silver rounds from local coin shop you’ll start with ounces 1 oz later 10 oz then you you keep stacking later those oz turn to pounds 5 lbs 20 lbs I started saving silver in 3 years ago 1 oz at a time and I have a nice stack today !! Almost enough to put down payment on a house! Just imagine what you can stack if you start now and by the time your 35 40 year old… be safe when melting copper get the right tools you don’t want anything to happen ! Nice bars

@Derek Stone Good melts, but. You guys need to preheat EVERYTHING when you start! If 1 lousy drop of condensation is in your moulds, you will have a bad day! Imagine 2000 degree copper exploding all over everything! It will burn right through you. Also you need tongs..

OK Derek....go to your nearest metal market and pick up some one inch by 1/4 inch metal and grab a BFH (BIG Fing Hammer) and drill with bits, ribbits (bolts will work) and bang out a nice tong for your crucible. I see you have an AWSOME vice. I look forward to your future melts and improvements to your skills and equipment. BTW you have the PRETTIEST WATERING HOLE FOR COOLING THE BARS I'VE EVER SEEN. 😮😊❤

Tried using the tools that came with the foundries and they are way to weak and flimsy. Feels 10x safer using channel locks so you are able to lock the crucible in place giving you way more control and stability.
