HOW TO MIRROR FINISH A BAR
I start with an 80 grit flap disc on my angle grinder then I use my drill with 50 mm round sanding discs . I start with 150 grit then go through the following Grits 240-400-800 Then once I get to the following Grits I use a small squirt of WD-40 1200-1500-2000-2500-3000. The WD40 helps to lubricate the discs and stops the sanding disk binding up with the metal powder . Then after that I use my buffer wheel on my bench grinder to get a perfect mirrored finish on it.

Hey there all you sensational subs how are you all today? I love a good motor meltdown and this one is no exception, it is great. Sent by a local subscriber who thought it would be interesting to see me meltdown my 1st pink motor. Obviously they painted it before they sent it but that’s okay the furnace doesn’t care and will melt anything I chuck in there. So sit back relax and I hope you enjoy today’s longer video😁👍🏻

About 30 years ago now, my dad worked for a cast-iron foundry that did a lot of the prototyping for local businesses. They used a furnace that could hold 3.5 tons of molten iron at once, though it could usually only melt around a half ton per hour. When they had full production running, they'd leave iron in the furnace overnight with a watch crew to keep it from going completely pear shaped. The crew couldn't foresee the iron burning through the insufficiently thick asbestos based liner, several inches of concrete and into the 60F water line that served to keep the area outside the furnace somewhat less hellish than the inside. It burned through near the bottom of the crucible. The resultant steam explosion sent a ball of molten iron through a 40ft ceiling and back down onto the furnace deck. Dad got put back on maintenance and worked double shifts for nearly a year to get that all back together again. 25 or so years ago, when I worked there a couple of summers, the foot thick steel furnace deck was still warped several inches out of flat.

Hey there! Well, it's official: I am now a fully-hooked, can't-wait-for-the-next-video fan of BigstackD! How the hell that happened I have no idea. I mean, c'mon, watching a guy melting metallic objects and trying - often unsuccessfully - to make something more interesting out of them is not exactly riveting stuff, is it? Yet, what do I find myself doing week in, week out on a Friday? Why, I'm a-sittin' in front of my laptop, logging onto You Tube and, yes, damn it, searching out BigstackD's latest upload. What's that all about, eh? Yeah, so maybe I ain't as reluctant a fan as I might wish to impart, but that's neither here nor there (nor, for that matter, there nor here, but let's not get distracted...). This BgstackD Guy, he's a bit of a clown, right? He's a buffoon, a numpty and yet, he is also rather amusing and entertaining... damn him. Oh yeah, then there's two gorgeous doggies. How mean anybody take against someone who has not one, but two uber-cute Frenchy's? Not me, no sir. As far as I'm concerned, and I AM concerned, this guy can do whatever he wants, however he wants as often as he wants just so long as he keeps including those dang doggies in his videos. So, let that be the end of it. No, let that be the start of it. No, look, wait: just keep doing what you're doing and we'll see how it goes, okay? Happy day to you and yours!

@bigstackD
@bigstackD 2 жыл бұрын
Normally I’ll re-melt the slag and with aluminium sometimes I can recover around 20% more aluminium. If I was to do it correct the first time and use appropriate fluxes or what ever would help separate impurities then I wouldn’t need to re-melt but honestly I’m not exactly sure what to use to extract all the aluminium on the first melt. This channel is just a hobby I do on my days off so I don’t mind re-melting and playing around with hot metals . And I talk to my local recycling plant and they reckon slag is 100% perfect to simply go into landfill👌🏻

Love watching you deconstruct a motor. What's the most amount of copper you got in a single project? Thanks for the awesome content. West coast rules!!

So for anyone wondering why the bolts shot out when he cut them, it’s because screws stretch ever so slightly when you you tighten them in, by cutting the base of the bolt all that tension in the screw was released at once, causing the screw to shoot out

Something that I've been curious about. Why does the slag that comes off of aluminum look almost like whipped cream and what comes off of other metals is powdery?

If there was ever a man that was in greater need of a FLIR camera than you it would be criminal. Imagine freaking the thermals out on one when the hot metal hits the ice. It would be magnificent.

One of my favorite parts of these videos is the slag removal. This one was amazing. I enjoyed the whole thing but the aluminum slag was the kicker. It just sucks the slag removal doesn’t even last a minute but not much that can be done about that right? It seems like a quick process, even without the edits you do. Great job as always!

I don't care how old or manly I get, I always get excited when I hear the Ice Cream truck. I still remember being with a buncha friends, all of us in our late teens to mid-20's and hearing the jingle. You bet your bricks of Brass that we hoofed it right over to that truck to get some ice cream to watch the footie with.
