For those who don't know, that extra scene that happened in the beginning of the anime, that wasn't in the manhwa, it was actually in the Korean light novel of solo leveling, so it's safe to say A1 PICTURES will be adapting the solo leveling Korean light novel and sticking to the manhwa artsyle at the same time

My good man, a dungeon break is what happened in the island. It's just a way to describe when monsters start coming out of the portal. All portals have a time frame for it to be cleared before monsters can come out. The portals just go to a dungeon and the materials found there are limited. Once raided and mined, the dungeon is closed.

solo lvlin is so beloved and praised cause the artists that did the adaptation from light novel to webtoon had insane"paneling" skills and good art.the story is ok for a power fantasy and same goes for everything else,just "ok",the way he drew the action and the "hype" scenes is what grabed ppl,he took advantage of the webtoon format and made something exeptional! i dont expect ppl to love the anime cause the only way to do that is to follow the demon slayer route(insane animation that elevates a nice story) and idk if they will do that.

Ufotable is probably the only studio that could do the original webtoon art justice, but I hope they at least keep the style consistent. (Artwise the Orc dungeon arc is probably my favorite and one I go back to read again sometimes.)

The manhwa is similar to Demon Slayer in that way. The story is quite simple but good, relying mostly on exciting fights. The phenomenal art is why it became as big as it did.

Dungeon Break is when stuff comes out of the dungeon, basically a successful invasion attempt. Jin-woo is weak to the point of not having any special abilities beyond slightly higher physical capabilities. Most people don't get any fancy abilities, but their strenghtening is to a point where it actually makes a difference, unlike our protagonist. I read the whole dang comic and I'm not sure why he didn't just do something less dangerous. Oh wait, ok, it's explained in his introductory monolgue in the first chapter, the Association gives him financial aid, and since he just graduated from high school he "doesn't really have any other option". Wether you believe he should have other options is up to the readers discretion but the story says he didn't. It's nice seeing they added some extra scenes to introduce some important characters sooner, makes you feel like they care about doing this right. Though to be frank, doing Solo Leveling "right" is 90% making it as hype as possible, it's bit thin on story and characters.

if you want to know what the dungeons break are. it is only that if they leave the dungeons for to long and not clear them by killing the boss, then after about 1 month it will brake and the will let the monsters out in to the world, and that can be a big problem

Lots of fiction set in the modern or near modern world deal with dungeons. This setting is near the end of the danger scale that allows nation states to still function and spend more time screwing with each other than controlling the dungeons, but requires constant effort to prevent monsters from pouring out of the dungeons to murder everyone. In my mind the dungeon danger scale ranges from at the low end being totally harmless with no threat outside of the dungeon, to basically destroys the world creating a post apocalyptic setting with 7 or 8 billion people killed. The danger scale is modified by the ability of modern weapons to function, and if fighting dungeon monsters lets people get stronger. The story isn't really telling anything exciting or introspective, so for the anime it's being carried by the production value of the adaptation.

They did have japanese localized name in the novels but sticking with the og names lends well to the story setting as introduction of characters from other countries will eventually come. And the switching up to localized names will just create more confusion in the future of the series. I guess the original localization did not get a heads up about the story going international in terms of character races so the novel localization just created problems for itself that it shoild not have in the first place.

I read solo leveling and let me tell ya the truth... The art is amazing, but the plot and the characters are pretty simple. It is just a power fantasy with an MC that never struggles after the earlier episodes (you almost never feel that he is against a wall or that he is going to lose). And the MC is normal. The reason solo leveling is so hyped is because of the amazing art and because it was one of the first ones to make popular the concept of the dungeons in south korea. Overall, if ya like an OP MC and good action this is a good show for you, but if ya like character development, worldbuilding, a good cast of characters that feel real and are important, ya probably not gonna like this show that much. For me is a 7 out of 10.

I'm pleased to see no or unnoticeable cgi in the adaptation that was my biggest worry when watching, but everything looks good. I only wish they ended the episode on the iconic scene, but thats more nitpicky. The action was really good in the beginning and got me hyped for the coming fights especially with the shadows. I just hope we keep up the sparse-no use of cgi.

I feel it'd have been a much better if they left all the exposition for the next episode and managed to get to the actual hook this ep. Even the manhwa had a "chapter 0" that reveals the hook right off the bat before getting into the real chapters. If I hadn't read the novels, I'd honestly drop the series as just another average isekai-like show of the season. Maybe they are hoping the hype will carry it for now?

Yeah, I also was pretty sad and frustrated they didn't go for a double episode to get the full intro in just like 'Sasaki to P-chan' did. I read a good part of Solo Leveling and it didn't make sense to cut there. I would have at least, for the shock value, showed the statue's unhinged smile at the last second if they wanted to end it there. Very weak first episode even though, while not an ultra fan of the manhwa, I do like Solo Leveling a lot.

@@Snzn_7 Sorry I just disagree. Either: 1. Resolving the statue issue and going into the meat of the series (the leveling) introduces the person to what the concept is gonna be. That's how you hook someone to a product. You wouldn't sell a swiss army knife by showcasing it has a corkscrew and a saw only, you show all the things it can do if you want to sell it. Same goes for the pilot of a series you need to do all you can to hook the viewer. That's my personal opinion on what I would have done: a 40 to 60 min episode or a multi release like Frieren did. Or 2. Your studio can't afford a long or multiple episodes so you bet on maximum shock value. Like he said, nobodies dying in the first minutes, woopdeedoo! Done multiple times. I ask you what leaves more of an impression? Evil statues coming to life, killing people way stronger than the hero with no effort. Or? Evil statues coming to life, killing people way stronger than the hero with no effort and having a quick flash forward to the absolutely creepy and sadistic smile the statue gives a bit later right before the episode ends.

Yes some do, bit then again it is not a norm to expect episodes to be extended in the first place. Then like a baby you went up and say studio's can't afford this that. Bruh, as a dude who watch a lot of shows that attempted to squeeze in an extended episode, there is only but a few show that had a consistently good quality when they pull double length episodes. You talk big and throw disses why they don't go over a runtime of this length or that but bruh, have some self awareness that you barely know what those entail. Heck the Manhwa took 4 chapters to get to the episode ending basically it took 4 weeks to get there in the manhwa timeline. Yet Solo leveling is like one of the most popular manhwa there is. So case in point it don't really have to get beyond what episode 1 has shown to sell it with people in general. It don't need to leave that "big" of an impression cause it's source material did not really need to end beyond that point to garner readership. So in theory that goes basically the same for anime. It might not be that catching for "you". But again that is mostly a you thing. So...

Once again Andrew hits the nail on its head. I too was thinking throughout the episode why'd he choose this profession and not literally anything else. without any world building rule set established as to why he has to do this particular job, his choice just makes it seem like he's got a death wish. Everything else was great for this episode, but the world building and story seemed lacking. Now I've watched all the new releases and my top recommendation has to be Yubisaki to Renren. If you guys are into romance anime at all, this first episode might just blow you away.

We will see. His pay is still twice that of the jobs you mentioned. After the expense of his mother and sister, he doesn't have enough for needed weapons, and armour. Because his contribution is so low, his pay is low. There are Manga were the contribution of the MC is high, but they still get paid lows. I estimate he needs 2x to 5x more to cover his expenses. His Mon has a Un-treatable, terminal disease. I think the hospital is providing only Hospice care for her.

I never did know how to pronounce the names except for like `Go.` Hopefully the actors saying the names will help with that. I noticed in the subtitles the spell the names differently. Like on Anilist they spell his name as `Seong` but in the subs it's `Sung.` I thought it was a interesting way they cut it together. I think they mixed in some world building into Sung's story. I don't remember it being in that order in the book but it's been a while since I read it. :)

pretty much all your questions do get explained fairly early on in the light novel so hopefully in the next 1 or 2 eps you get most of your answers. I agree that they should have done a 2 ep premiere.

I LOVE those korean histories beeing animated. TOWER OF GOD is my favorite by far. Lookism is also worth your time. God of Highschool had 5 good episodes than went to shit. Let's hope for the best. My opinion will be made next week, they MUST ace the statues creepy faces, trademark of this manhwa

overly hyped show, not a lot to go on with just a first episode and im sure fans will be (but dont worry, it gets better in 8 episodes) or something... but I agree, if they knew the begining was not exactly plot hook worthy, should have put out a larger premier, to bring more people in.

Watched first episode last week, just finished episode 2. This is one of the weakest shows i've ever seen. There is zero originality here, and it's just... copying shit without a new spin. It's an Isekai within an Isekai but there's no world change, and this is literally just SAO x Shingeki no Kyojin x Gantz. Each has their ups and downs, but no matter what anyone says, SAO gained steam from a strong start before they started making Kirito "Jesus," but this show can't even be bothered to pretend or think of anything that stands out. The "Death Game" is played out, a great subversion being Log Horizon. The blood and deaths are pornographic to a degree you can easily recognize as empty _edge._ And the absolute worst thing is writing these characters right off the bat... after a discussion that would make sense in taking a vote, they ALL proceed to do the absolute opposite of what they should at exactly every time... and episode 2 has *SPOILER* a SINGLE SET OF LITERAL INSTRUCTIONS that nobody seems to stop and analyze, and they forget them as soon as they think of them. *END SPOILER* And as this guy says... exactly. Society is still modern, so why the hell can't the guy work in a factory and do night school to become an engineer or something? Every aspect of this is poorly written, as if the creator(s) jotted down only what would fit on a napkin and said "good enough." I wasn't expecting _anything,_ but this STILL somehow manages to be disappointing.

If they want to end at the ant arc they will probably need 60 episodes at least, given the speed they are going. Spoilers: I love how they introduced the hunter association ranking/information thing with a few characters that become very important later. Super cool to see best bro there.

I don't know the source material, but I'm not buying that conventional weapons cannot work when hunters are simply using swords, shields and other generic fantasy weapons... there's no reason why those melee weapons would someone how harm monsters but bullets wouldn't.

And there was nothing at all in these first two episodes that lead on he has some sort of greater powers of observation, analysis or tactical understanding. Furthermore, the pacing is in the toilet. And what's worse was essentially just trying to copy SnK and SAO with the music. Maybe it's because i've seen 30 years of anime, but this feels like something intentionally "edgy" for 15 year olds who sneak in viewership or readership, but this is a "no."

The anime is gonna fire, but the manwha is trash. The series goes downhill after 70 chapters. There's no good side character in it. The MC character basically can do everything, super lucky, mary su bs. Dont get me wrong it had a great start but wasted my time invested in the series.
