Hi, I just subscribed. My sister has been talking about you for a couple of weeks now. You have really inspired her and me as well. We have been diving for almost two weeks now. At first I was a bit scared and I wasn't all that enthusiastic about going through a dumpster however, we found that everything that other divers where saying was completely true! On one of our first trips to Michael's we found a Cricut machine, brand new in the box. The box was slightly wet only because it has rained that day. I could not believe it! I was hooked after that. I paid almost $300 for my Cricut machine on flexpay at HSN but my sister got hers for free. Lol. We've tried many stores and have come up empty but always manage to hit the jackpot with Michael's. We've found a couple of things at Big Lots and quite a few things at Five Below but I would say 90% of what we have found came from Michael's. I'm a papercrafter and jewelry maker and my sister likes baking and decorating so we get so excited when we find items that are brand new in the package. I plan to start selling my jewelry and papercrafts so I am looking forward to using some of the items I've liberated from the trash. We've also found many things that we want to donate and some we will probably sell. Thank you for the knowledge and the inspiration!

Can we just talk about why it is legal and normal for stores to throw away perfectly good merchandise? I also dumpster dive and people also say "well donate it" or "you're not supposed to do that" but why is it ok to throw away new items? Rant over...
@FRUGALNISTA8 жыл бұрын

Why would it be illegal to throw away new stuff? Yea it's stupid but shouldn't be against the law...
@FRUGALNISTA8 жыл бұрын
the same WHY is asked by me on WHY is it illegal in some areas to remove the new stuff. That's what stupid. You do know that a RANT is speaking or shouting or commenting at length in a wild, impassioned way right? I do think that it should be illegal to toss out new shoes when so many are going barefoot. I do think it should be illegal to mass produce this stuff in countries where child labor is being used to produce it ONLY to throw it away. The dumpsters in this counties are full with food but the food banks aren't. Yeah illegal is a passionate way to describe what should be done to these greedy companies. We mandate the hell out of everything else so why not this?
@katiemarie53518 жыл бұрын
+FRUGALNISTA there should be laws for what your getting at yea but stuff like this like craft stuff... why make it illegal to throw away new stuff like crafting tools and such when it is perfectly legal to just kill a baby?? (Abortion) you think it's ok to throw away a baby basically, a life, but not some new things that they have too much of? I don't mean to come across mean or anything, I understand your point I just think it would be stupid for this to be illegal but ok to abort babies even if they can't take care of them... put the baby up for adoption instead (if you hadn't noticed I'm comparing, donate the supplies not throw away but still it shouldnt be illegal to throw them away if it's legal to basically throw a life away..)
@FRUGALNISTA8 жыл бұрын
+Katie Marie well with that rationale I don't think you are being mean at all I just think that if you are basing ALL America's ills on something as serious as abortion you are really RANTING in the comment section about a video concerning greedy retailers polluting this planet. My heart bleeds for ALL lives including the countless of children who weren't aborted but who go to bed hungry when food is getting tossed in the trash. You mention crafts as though it's less of a necessity but what about the pollution aspect? Last I check God ain't making more land so why not make it illegal or make these retailers more responsible. I can't pollute but they can? Ok again I think you are kinda sorta missing our ORIGINAL point (not being mean).

The things that these kind of places throw out is crazy. I have seen youtube videos where people find working computers, game consoles (xbox 360, ps3, wii, etc.), phones and a lot more. Our country wouldnt be in the mess it is in if these things were donated to a goodwill/salvation army. And food items to food pantries or churches. Nice vid. A new subscriber is here. What are the best places to go find stuff at besides staples.

+FRUGALNISTA I ran into your channel recently by chance. After watching one of your videos I had to subscribe. It makes me happy to know there are people out there like you finding and rescuing all of these free and useful items. It breaks my heart that a lot of stuff is not rescued and ends up in the dump when there is nothing wrong with the items and knowing there are so many people out there that can use this. It's just so waistful. Your channel has inspired me to try and find some free items myself of course in a safe and legal way. I will definatly do some research before go on my little free items mission just to make sure I'm not getting myself in trouble that's the last thing I want to do. If I do find free items I will find organizations I could donate to. Thanks for the inspiration and I am looking forward to your future post's.

What great finds! I found a huge box of those flip flops at about this time last year (also Michaels). My friend's mom took them all back to Vietnam with her on her fall trip to give to people in the village where she comes from. When you said that there are some countries where kids would be glad to have those flip flops to wear to school it reminded me that we did send them back to the village and the people there were very happy to have them. What a shame that they were headed to a landfill when they could be used to help people :(

Love your videos and love dumpster diving. one yer while dumpster diving in the large dumpsters behind our mall we saw a well dressed lady got out of her Mercedes and load box after box into the dumpster. We drove up as soon as she drove off. Rather than go through the boxes there we threw them in our van and left, went home and started going through the boxes. There was one name brand purse. Inside it I found a recipt for a dry cleaner with the name of a physician in our town who was going through a very nasty divorce. And what was in the boxes? Apparently his entire wardrobe. lol Very expensive clothes. He is a tiny man so those clothes including 4 hand made suits that would have fit no one except him or some strangely built child.So I did the right thing and took them to his office on Monday. He offered a small reward but I'm a nurse and felt odd about it, besides he was very cheap nd his offer was pathetic. There was also a brand new set of Conair electric rollers which I kept. Never know what you will find. lol

Wow! This was such an amazing find! You can make so many people happy with the stuff you don't use! It's sad that in my country 'dumpster shopping' isn't easy. Every dumpster I've come across was locked or behind a fence, but you could just see there was useable stuff in there. Cant believe they just throw this all out! You'd think they would donate it, thier are so many different charities in everyone's community that could use all of this. Glad you got it and it didn't go to the labdfill. Makes you wonder how much does fill our landfills up. Good find for you.

@@FRUGALNISTA I think that is a shame of what they throw away, however go for you, but you think the could at least hand to bags to you, I know a lot of stores do this, & knowing all the orphanages etc. That could use certain items. Just shaking my head, they could even use as tax purposes, still all & all good for younger person as yourself who is able, if I was younger I would be right there with you :) yes for sure...

Cling stamps?!! AHHHH! (the acrylic block is used with the stamps BTW). Those sold out at our store, I can't believe this store had so many left over that they threw them away without even clearancing them!! You lucky lady! Those piggies are cute too! I would have paid $2 for one (not $12.99 though, LOL!) if our store had any left... maybe they threw them out too? I can't believe how much stuff stores throw away... so wasteful... I am glad you found it and know someone will find a good use for it all with your help. Thanks for sharing! :)

I'm not sure what you're planning for all your items, but I was a little envious because I know several charities that could use some of those items. Our church sends teams to Africa, Cambodia , Nigeria where those flip flops would be so appreciated. Also in the fall and sometimes year round Samaritans Purse sends out the Operation Christmas Child boxes. So many of the small craft kits and a flower or two, bows etc included with the school tools and hygiene items. I This is the first time I've chanced on your video , but as you mention Sunday school and bible school, I'm sure you know some of what I mentioned here. All the best to you for your frugal shopping.
@FRUGALNISTA8 жыл бұрын
Sharen the flip flops were sent to Ghana (all except one pair that my little one wanted). This is why is share the way that I share with the hopes of getting others to take a peek and make good use of these things that shouldn't be in the trash because it's not trash. I get so many request to give and donate but what puzzles me is why organizations like the ones you have mention aren't doing what I'm doing. This stuff came from 1 store...imagine if someone from these organizations would just look. Appreciate you watching.

If you think that waste is bad, you should see what grocery stores waste. My husband works at a truck shop inside of a certain big box retailers distribution center (W******). If they drop a case of food on the floor, it gets thrown out. They just had a refrigerated truck that was rejected by a store for not meeting temp (by 2 degrees), so they brought it back to the shop and they were "supposed" to dispose of everything in the trailer. My husband brought home 2 carloads of food and we filled both of our giant freezers and gave a lot away.

The little blue bird that you had in the very beginning would look good as part of a lady's church hat decoration. In the South esp. where women wear the big fancy hats in church and coordinate the hat with the outfit. I sometimes do the retro thing and wear hats and saw your birds and thought: HAT BIRDS!! AWESOME!! :-)

It is truly disgraceful that those things were thrown in the trash. Especially those shoes. Makes me sick how many people truly are in need and those things would have been wasted. I am so glad you rescued those things from polluting our planet. I had no idea they threw perfectly good things away like that. Thanks for making this video.

I had worked at a Michael's for a short time and asked why the stuff was being thrown out instead of donated. The answer I got was because they were worried about liability. What a shame that all of this ends up in the landfill and just becomes more pollution inside of going with the the words of reuse, upcycle and recycle. As for the flip flops I got upset by how many pairs they threw out so I agree with you on that. As for the ones you cannot use I read the comments about donating to other countries but my feeling is as much as other countries need help so do many, many individuals here at home need help. Congratulations on your haul it's an amazing haul. I just found your channel by accident and I subscribed because you are a girl after my own heart of getting stuff for free.
@FRUGALNISTA8 жыл бұрын
+mes1327 Totally agree with help both here and abroad...my only complaint is how to get items like these flip-flops to folks who really need shoes in the USA. Dropping this off at a Goodwill would only be making a profit for Goodwill and I have a few smaller places where I donate but these flip flops were given to children who don't have ANY shoes. One of the requirements to attend school in the village that the shoes were sent to was the child HAD to have shoes. So as much as I would like to donate here in the USA sometimes it's not as easy as it seems. Appreciate you subbing and watching so much.
