Well, it was a floating dock which suggests the mussels had many years to attach to it. Also, in WW2 the Allies towed massive floating concrete docks across the English Channel to unload troops and equipment on Normandy beaches. Search Mulberry Harbors.

That is huge! I remember at an aquarium in Oregon they had a big block that had been carried over from Japan after the tsunami. Amazing to see how things can be carried around by ocean currents!

I recall visiting some place in California where there was tons of driftwood. That is not something you see much of in New Jersey, because people just took it. so I guess this is just driftcrete.

Consider Ontario California as a story to cover. The research would be easy because all the historical data is within the model colony room in the main branch of Ontario library. Ontario was founded in the 1880s by the Chaffey Brothers. They were engineers from Canada, who laid out the city in a grid complete with the first SoCal hydroelectric plant in the adjacent Saint Gabriel mountains that wired electricity to every lot they would sell. The alluvial fan that spread out from the base of the San Gabriel mountains allowed water to be delivered by gravity. This was such an organized and novel approach to raw land development that the federal government adopted such layouts as guidelines for cities to layout their towns across America. It was so encouraged that it appeared in scale model at the Chicago’s world’s fair in 1893. Also, the famous mule car pulled a rail car to the foothills only to coast by gravity back down to the valley.

The ocean does toss back a few things now and then, nice find. Have a great weekend, love your videos.

Side note: The Reef, next door to Hotel Maya, is rumored to have a really decent Sunday brunch. It’s great to see you exploring the LBC! There’s a lot of history in that town. There’s a pedestrian tunnel from the early 1900s that runs under Ocean Blvd somewhere downtown. It’s pretty much sealed off from the public but I’m pretty sure it still exists. That would be a cool exploration. Also the former Pike carnival site at Shoreline, the old Naval Shipyard, the site of the McDonell Douglas plant adjacent to the LB Airport. You guys rock. Thank you for sharing these videos.

Thank you so much! We've heard of the tunnels and made a point to check out potential entrance points while in the area. Not too much success, but definitely a spot we'll continue to work on. You're right, it would be an awesome explore!

Welcome back to California! I've seen some odd things on the beach, but never anything that heavy🙂. I suspect more than a few people are knocking off chunks to take home as souvenirs (or maybe to sell on ebay?) Until next time, happy trails!

Was very confused, trying to get my head around how a concrete dock could float like a boat--even with a styrofoam interior, the coating is still concrete, with the added heft of pickin' rebar! For a moment there, thought you might have sourced Jimmy Hoffa's sofa.
@ReachOutToWilliam7 ай бұрын
It's does not float because of the foam interior. It floats because of displacement.
