Solar farms are appearing all over the place on a large scale, just like what you were discussing. You are correct, it is a significant source of energy. Furthermore, the lack of trees or vegetable planting may lead to the land becoming a desert, which is a potential problem that could occur in the UK as well.

This is absolutely crazy and shameful that Brits want solar farms on agricultural land because they prefer more money. The countryside is part of the culture and should not turn into a 3rd world packed-space country. Most of your food should be grown locally on smaller farms and sold in farm shops. It defeats the purpose of climate initiatives and sustainability that food is shipped or flown into different countries using slave labor and unknown quality control practices. Put the solar panels on all the buildings in London. Londoners would welcome that.

We definitely should be having solar panels on our housing and businesses. I expect we don't because it would interrupt the steady stream of money from our pockets into the wallets of industry. The solar panels themselves, though, don't damage the land they are on and nature and wildlife can continue around them. We just need to ensure no damage is done during installation of the sites.
@deeannh177 ай бұрын
@@SquawkingSnail It’s better that the land be left alone to rewild as a nature habitat or to be bought by a new small farming movement that has started. It’s more sustainable to grow local organic food and eliminate overseas travel, plastics and packaging. No one wants GMOs or Bill Gates experiments. There should be land owner and locals discussing this and the government should put the panels up in the larger cities where it would be welcomed.
@SquawkingSnail7 ай бұрын
@@deeannh17 Farming is more damaging to the land than a solar farm. They're also far less damaging than oil, nuclear, coal or gas. Completely agree with you on everything else you said.
@deeannh177 ай бұрын
@@SquawkingSnail Small organic farming is sustainable and good for the land and the economy. Britain has been farming since it’s beginnings. Commercial GMO monocrops can be harmful to the soil but small farmers are preservationists and carefully plan different crops to benefit the land and also they choose the crops that grow in that region preserving plant and animal species such as native sheep breeds. It keeps the soil fertile so there is no need for dangerous pesticides and harmful fertilizers that leech into the water. Even a feminist ecological activist like Vandana Shiva promotes small farming initiatives. Solar farms do not belong in the English countryside. They are better suited on rooftops in the UK where they can be accessible, monitored and maintained and directly serve the people who need it the most. Farmers are well rounded, intelligent people that have learned a lot through thousands of years and know more about agriculture and conservation than politicians and climate activists.

I have my own solar blight at home. Some of the things they don't tell you when you have them installed. They are absolutely no use when the power is out, unless you spend a ton more money and buy some more equipment and batteries, probably the exploding type. They only work as well as the worst of them. If one breaks down you get nothing. If one is shadowed you get nothing. They need to be cleaned regularly or the power you get out of them reduces. They appear to be a great medium for growing moss, even when it doesn't normally grow on the roof you are covering with them. I spent a good part of the day cleaning them today. Fortunately there was a break in the rain. You get bugger all compensation for the power you put back into the grid, a fraction of what you pay to take electricity out. I am doing a public good by adding to the electricity supply as demand is increasing but I am effectively being punished for it as I am subsidising drivers of battery electric vehicles three times now, by providing cheap electricity for them, by having my taxes used to underwrite their purchases, and by paying their road tax for them. I would recommend them only to those living off grid who need electricity and have no alternative. And I put my bloody back out cleaning the buggers.

Rooftop solar panels are popular here in West Australia. Excess electricity is fed back into the grid or you can have batteries for storage.

This idea is insane! We are discussing world war 3 and this country is in no way self sufficient. We need all the farm land for food! World war 2 didn't really end until 1954, 9 years later than 1945 because we were ALL on food rations!

This has been one continuous war, and we are participating in our very own demise for one simple fact. We have followed the wrong path.

Nobody ever asks about the effects of bottling/canning water which must affect the climate worldwide. I fear cloud seeding isn't about the weather as much as it is about wringing the moisture out of the atmosphere.

I used to install solar panels. What they don’t tell you is that they have around 30 lifespan and they are NOT recyclable. What’s the point of it anyway if they keep cloud seeding anyway?!?!? Love the channel btw

It’s bad enough here in Victoria driving up to NSW on the highway and we pass kilometre after kilometre of solar panels, 323 hectares of them. Can’t imagine what the panels will look like in beautiful UK where I was born and grew up. The problem is if they keep reflecting the sun back into space, then how the heck do they think they are going to work. Complete madness😡

Yorkshire in my area: links seem not to be allowed - however - Warren Farm and Armthorpe Lane (ENSO ENERGY) and Fenwick (BOOM POWER) are 3 examples. 670 hectares (1608 acres). The leases are for 40 yrs. They will never be farm land again.

Absolutely devastating. on every level.. Happening all around the world Australian country side too. if not the sloar farms , the transmission lines, access roads.. Environmentally and socially destructive. Undergrounding transmission lines is preferred.

For what it's worth you can graze animals on standard ground based solar farms. Also, as I am on a £6 a day pension without my DIY solar system that provides 90 percent of my energy I would be living an even more dire life...

🤔Of course, quite rightly, people will want to just say "NO!" ... There most certainly be will be an alternative, likely more expensive, however, money can't always the most important element, when pushing through a project that is so invasive! 🤑💰🤑 ... Why don't these farmers rent their land out to the public for allotments or to groups who would like to start their own business selling organic to the public, or maybe they would like to rear livestock to sell to the public, I'm damn sure they could get a lot more than a £1000 an acre if the public rented it. I'm sure their are a lot of people out there that say "if only we had the land."

Between newmarket and Mildenhall there's a company called Sunnica which are pushing a 2800 acre photovoltaic panel array and battery facility on farmland. The district has been fighting against it for about 4 years and it still hasn't been thrown out. If it's passed it'll turn the area into a living nightmare and as anyone who bothers to research quickly finds out they are terrible for the environment, extremely costly, and building them and mining the materials is a collosal waste of fossil fuels and true costs can never be returned. Farmland and protecting essential food sustainability is being completely ignored as is our health.
