Eastern Yellow Jacket (Vespula maculifrons) underground colony wasp SUPER aggressive! I pounded my fist on the ground and stirred them up so I could vacuum up all the workers and guards. This nest was packed with Larvae and Pupae that I brought home and fed to my animals!

I am actually most surprised by how many animals enjoy eating wasp larva! We had a small yellow jacket nest that I was worried we were going to have to deal with on my property. Then a local badger figured out that we had the good stuff on our lawn! I caught him on camera in the middle of the night slinking onto the property and completely demolishing the nest and going for first, second, and third helpings in there! Haven't seen him OR the yellow jackets since, don't think the latter ever recovered.

Thank you, from the bottom of my heart, for your channel. I am now 66 and 58 years ago I was with my brother blackberry picking and he kicked a yellow jacket nest. I was behind him. He got away, I did not. I have broken into cold sweats whenever I encounter a yellow jacket. I stumbled on your channel, forced myself to watch and now have no worries due to your excellent explanation of the little bastards. Thank you again.

I've placed a shop vac in front of a yellow-jacket nest and without banging or provoking them, on their own accord they over about 12 hours all investigated the vacuum nozzle and got sucked inside to the soapy water. I'm just a home owner without a protective suit but patience and a shop vac has dealt with my nest removal problems.

That's very Pennsylvania culture. Integrate your small business with your hobby farm. My best friend's dad's a tree trimmer, and uses the wood pulp from the limb grinder as compost for his garden. People in Texas think Recycling is for hippies, but PA still retains that old German and Native American attitude of waste not want not.

When I was a little 5 year old I was on a hike on a trail in the forest. I was with my parents and friends. I had to go pee so off into the bush I go to relieve my self. Next thing I know I am being swarmed by yellow jackets and I got stung 23 times. It was a scary experience and very painful. This was back in the summer of 1978.

We were cutting firewood while camping in the mountains. My buddies son (probably 5 or 6 years old) stirred up a nest and since I’m closest he’s calling my name running straight for me. I’m allergic (he doesn’t know that) so I’m running away from him as fast as I can. He’s screaming at me but I had to run. I ran right past everybody and they helped him out. To have a child running towards you for help and you run away was a horrible feeling. That was 35 years ago and I still remember it. Later I explained to him that had I stuck around I would be in the hospital, not sitting around a campfire. He understood, but it still hurt not to help him.

I get these nests around my home a lot. I normally wait until dark and upend about a 1/4 to 1/3 gallon of gas into the hole (no I don’t light it). They all die and they never make it out of the hole. You probably can’t use that method at a customers house as there are some risks and impacts to the chemistry of that small area of ground but it works well and I’ve never gotten stung doing it.
