I have some of these locks, and I was unable to find a way to shim this lock. The actuator is 90 degrees to the axis of the the keyway, so I don't think it can be bypassed like the American padlocks. The locks I bought had 5 pins, and no security pins - they could be made better by installing American drivers/pins, but pin 6 wasn't drilled out, and if I recall correctly, there's substantially more space around the plug, so the loose tolerances make it easier to pick, even if you put security pins in the core. As far as cut resistance, I was able to snip this lock off with my hydraulic cutters. I too would be interested in knowing how this lock was shimmed.

If you watch Bosnian Bill's tear down of this you will see that you don't need bolt cutters, but rather just a pair of pliers. All locks can be broken into, some much easier then others. Destructive will always win, however most will probably move on since it can take time, or too much effort/noise to not want to bother. Do your research before buying any lock, and pray there isn't someone around who knows how to bypass things swiftly with little to no effort.

Probably you can bolt cut any lock if you take a lot of time and have a heavy cutter. But honestly, what thief is going to stand around and take that time and risk getting caught unless he breaking into a jewelry store. These heavy-duty locks are fine for a back shed with junk furniture and boxes of books, etc.

The shimming bit is a load of bull, you can't shim ball bearings because they don't use springs, it's metal on metal. The biggest deal security wise would probably just be the portable battery powered angle grinder, because like you said, it takes 30 seconds to chop it open. The only downsides of course are the noise and destructive nature of the operation.

I don't agree with this video... not a huge masterlock fan but that shackle is crazy strong for the 20-25$ price that you pay, who has a hydraulic cutter tool like that besides professionals and high level criminals. Also this lock is not shimmable like you say in the video, and the body is tough as well... destructive attacks are more likely to seize the lock up than defeat the mechanism. The only bad thing about this lock is the shit core... but i think thats why they put so much spring tension on the core... If they put an old school american core in there even with a slight price raise it would be a great lock
@kellinquinn6526
@kellinquinn6526 7 жыл бұрын
And that's why Master Locks will always be crap. Doesn't matter how good they ever make the body or shackle because if they keep putting their crappy core in there then their locks are always vulnerable to amateur pickers. When a theif sees a Master Lock they know they can pick it open.

These stupid lock picking and bolt cutting videos presuppose that whatever is being protected by these locks is in some dark area where people have time to try to break in. They also show what tools to use which is itself criminal. They wouldn't have time to do these things in high traffic areas where the police pass by along with other people and where there are high definition cameras around to identify these scumbags.

Everyone wants to be BosnianBill lmfao... I bought a M15 Magnum and it advertised a 5 pin core on the packaging. Imagine my surprise when I open it up and look at the key and see 4 cuts. I've wondered how it could've gotten screwed up like that. I guess it's possible it was on the wrong packaging or the packaging was printed with incorrect graphics that belong to a different series lock. Seeing that packaging just supports the fact that something was wrong with the packaging, whether a misprint or something else.

I don't think lock manufacturers specifically make locks to counter angle grinders, mostly because even if it can endure an angle grinder, the thing that attaches to the lock will probably be cut using the angle grinder instead. Also, at that point, it's probably noisy enough to generate a lot of attention.
@alphaforce6998
@alphaforce6998 5 жыл бұрын
@@estoylaroca Most people won't care and with a battery-operated grinder you can deal with any metal lock / chain to steal bikes or break into locked structures. On the othere hand, a reciprocating saw with a 10-12" blade can literally cut holes in the doors and/or walls of most buildings quite quickly so I'd say most things that give us a sense of security are doing so falsely.

@@alphaforce6998 I like Billy the Kids reply but just like saves, locks should have a rating of how long it takes to pick or cut with non-commercial cutters. But it comes down to determining how important are the items you are protecting. Lets say you have lots of "junk" stored in a storage unit. Knowing that any lock can be busted, or, like you said, just saw the dang door. An expensive lock IMO makes you a target. So, you have to make them work for it. Setting up a few surprised just in case they make it inside. No need to compromise my info but lets say it involved some black Kevlar cord and two 50lb Jeep rock rails (about 5 ft all and positioned in such a way, hitting the cord will pull them right into your face/head/shoulders and your average person won't expect it at least one will smash something. I figured if intruder makes it past that, he/she can have whatever they want. :-)

@@liberals_destroy_everythin2497 No reason to. Accidents are accidents. You just never know what's going to fall when you are fumbling around in the dark LOL. Even if I wanted to be funny and put up signs saying "beware of falling objects" or "Hardhat area", that only brings a heighten awareness of the intruder. There is only one path in and if you happen disturb what looks like an attempt to hold the two items together, well, it is meant to discourage them from going anything further. If you were breaking into someones home and you got cut by broken glass, you going to keep going or leave? Your angle grinder attack was just under 12 seconds (timed) I hope lonsdaleite (58% harder than diamond) can be synthesized into a polymer for use in padlock shackles one day. Maybe lonsdaleite could stand up to an angle grinder longer than 12 seconds ffs. Boron-Carbide is hard, very hard but I lose so much heart in my padlock collection when I see a hot knife go through warm butter and realize it was not a hot knife going through warm butter but a Boron padlock shackle and it makes me weep! 😨🥶😢😭💨🤮

A $100 lock versus a $10 lock and they're both going to get grinded off. You better off with the $10 lock.

You set to piss you didint break it. Ratchet strap did. Secured to the bench put down your purse and actually lock it where 1 would typically use one. Even with ga pump cutters. Un fasten it from bench and try it that way man

Locks over 50$ is such a waste Watching videos on how these locks can be broken and picked so easily it makes no sense to buy a high end lock...no point really lol expensive locks are such a waste...a 20$ lock is just as good as a 800$ lock

I think we can all agree the amount of force he applied to break the lock was orders of magnitude more than what a bike stealing thug would apply. Get some normal bolt cutters and use only your hands, no mounts or other mechanisms. I doubt you will even scratch it.
